Spirit pays for persistent effects such as buffs and permanent minions; a larger maximum pool can support more reservations, depending on each skill’s cost and your build modifiers.
Claim the campaign’s permanent Spirit rewards
The current PoE2 Wiki lists three campaign rewards that add up to 100 maximum Spirit:

Path of Exile 2: Unofficial Game Guide – 2026 Updated Edition Complete Walkthrough, Beginner... | $16.99 | Buy on Amazon |
| Reward source listed by the wiki | Spirit |
|---|---|
| The King in the Mists, Freythorn (Act 1) | +30 |
| Ignagduk, the Bog Witch, The Azak Bog (Act 3) | +30 |
| Lythara, the Wayward Spear, Kriar Village (Interlude 3) | +40 |
These are the wiki’s current listed sources, not a guarantee that the route is identical in every game version. Its page is secondary, and the +40 source differs from an older official Grinding Gear Games clarification. Check your live quest and boss state if the listed reward is not where you expect it. See the PoE2 Wiki’s Spirit page.
Use reward items if the game gives one
If a reward appears as an item in your inventory, use or consume it, then check your character’s maximum Spirit. A December 2024 GGG staff post, updated in January 2025, described quest items that had to be used and noted a bug affecting some drops at that time; that historical bug report should not be treated as evidence of a current issue. Read the GGG forum clarification.

Why older route guides may disagree
In the historical route described by GGG staff member Wolf_GGG, the intended 100 Spirit came from +30 for the Mist King in Act 1 Normal, +30 for Ignagduk in Act 3 Normal, and +40 for Ignagduk in Act 3 Cruel. The post said Mist King Cruel did not grant an item. This differs from the newer wiki listing of Lythara in Interlude 3 for the +40 reward, so treat the forum post as a record of the older route rather than confirmation of the current one. Wolf_GGG wrote that the “base total of Spirit you should have for clearing the above bosses should be 100.”
Add Spirit through equipment
Gear is another way to raise maximum Spirit beyond campaign rewards. The wiki lists these examples and modifier ranges:
| Item | Spirit modifier listed |
|---|---|
| Solar Amulet | +10–15 Spirit |
| Corvus Mantle | +20–30 Spirit implicit |
| Conjurer Mantle | +20–30 Spirit implicit |
These are listed ranges; check the item version and its actual roll in game. The PoE2 Wiki lists Spirit-granting equipment. When choosing gear, weigh the Spirit gain against the defenses, other modifiers, or build options you would give up—there is no universally best Spirit item for every character.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Maximum Spirit is not reservation efficiency
Maximum Spirit is the size of your resource pool. Reservation efficiency changes how much Spirit a skill reserves. They are separate properties, so improving one does not necessarily increase the other. For example, the official 0.4.0 patch notes changed Prism Guardian’s Spirit modifier from a maximum-Spirit modifier to Spirit Reservation Efficiency for Buff Skills, and added +50 Spirit. That change is a reason to check current item text rather than rely on older gear advice. See the official 0.4.0 patch notes.

Check whether your Spirit increased
- Claim the campaign reward, or equip an item with a Spirit modifier.
- If the reward is an inventory item, use it as directed by the game.
- Check your character’s maximum Spirit to confirm the change.
- Review the reservation cost of the persistent effects you want to activate; more maximum Spirit only helps if the available pool covers their costs after your modifiers.
