What you need before installing
A jetpack mod is not a console add-on or an in-game setting. It is a collection of script, model, texture, or archive files that runs through third-party modding frameworks. The exact files depend on the release you choose, so read that release’s readme before copying anything.

- A Windows PC copy of GTA V: The procedure applies to the PC game. Console versions do not use these loaders or folder paths.
- The correct edition: Legacy and Enhanced are separate mod targets. Confirm which executable and installation you use before downloading a mod.
- A supported game build: The JetPack Mod [.NET] page states that GTA V version 1.42 or newer is required because earlier versions do not contain the jetpack model. A newer game build is not automatically compatible; the loader and script must also support it.
- Enough disk space for a backup: Keeping an untouched copy, or at least all original files that you change, is the safest rollback method.
- Single-player access: Test the mod in Story Mode. Script Hook V is not an online tool and closes GTA V when multiplayer is entered.
Jetpack SP, for example, adds the Mammoth Thruster from GTA Online’s Doomsday Heist to story mode. Other releases may use a different script, activation key, model, or dependency chain, so do not assume that instructions for one jetpack package apply to another.

Check Legacy versus Enhanced compatibility
Current PC installations can be labeled GTA V Legacy or GTA V Enhanced. Treat them as different targets even when they share saves or a launcher. Before downloading, check the mod page and readme for an explicit edition and minimum build. If an author lists only Legacy, do not copy those files into Enhanced and hope that the game will adapt them.

- STUNNING VISUALS — Enhanced levels of fidelity and performance with new graphics modes featuring up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, HDR options, ray tracing, improved texture quality, and more
- FASTER LOADING — Quicker access to the action as the world of Los Santos and Blaine County load in faster than ever before.
- ADAPTIVE TRIGGERS AND HAPTIC FEEDBACK — Feel every moment through the DualSense controller, from directional damage to weather effects, rough road surfaces to explosions, and more.
- TEMPEST 3D AUDIO — Hear the sounds of the world with pinpoint precision: the throttle of a stolen supercar, the rattle of neighbouring gunfire, the roar of a helicopter overhead, and more.
- Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the European version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions.
Write down the game build shown by your launcher or installation information and compare it with the Script Hook V release and the jetpack mod’s requirements. The Script Hook V listing available on July 15, 2026 identifies version 3889.0/1158.13; that number is a release reference, not a guarantee that it supports every later update. Use the release that matches your installed build.
Back up the installation and saves
Do this before installing any loader, script, archive, or replacement model. A backup turns a failed experiment into a simple restore instead of a full reinstall.
- Close GTA V and its launcher.
- Open the folder containing
GTA5.exe. This is the game root; it is where the ASI loader and several Script Hook files are placed. - Copy the original game folder to a separate drive or another clearly named location if you have room. If a full copy is impractical, preserve every file you plan to replace and keep a separate copy of your save files.
- Record the current game build, edition, and the names of every file you add. A short text note makes later removal deliberate.
- Prefer a separate modded profile or folder when your launcher and storage setup allow it. Do not mix an experimental installation with the clean copy you use for online play.
Do not overwrite originals unnecessarily. If an installer offers to replace a file without explaining where the original goes, stop and read the package instructions first.

Install Script Hook V
Script Hook V is the library that allows custom *.asi plugins to call GTA V’s native script functions. A jetpack script that uses ASI support will not work without the matching Script Hook release and its loader.

- Experience the world of Grand Theft Auto V like never before with the power of the PlayStation 4.
- Explore the City of Los Santos, the countryside and even the ocean.
- Play through an epic single player experience using three very different characters.
- Join your friends in GTA Online and see what trouble you can cause.
- Play golf, tennis, see a film or call someone and just hang out.
- Download Script Hook V from its current official release listing and confirm that the release supports your installed GTA V build.
- Open the downloaded archive and follow its readme. In the current listing, the core files are
ScriptHookV.dlland the ASI loaderdinput8.dll. - Copy those files beside
GTA5.exe, not into an arbitrary scripts subfolder, unless the release readme specifies a different path. - Keep the original archive and note the release number you installed. You may need to replace or remove these files after a game update.
Do not add unrelated loaders merely because an older tutorial mentions them. Every extra loader increases the number of files that can conflict after an update.
Add .NET and NativeUI only when the jetpack requires them
Some jetpack releases are native ASI plugins; others are managed scripts. A managed release may require ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI in addition to Script Hook V. The dependency list on the mod page is authoritative for that particular package.
- Read the jetpack package’s requirements and identify whether it names ScriptHookVDotNet, NativeUI, or both.
- Download the versions specified by the author or their official release pages. Check that they support your GTA V edition and build.
- Place the listed ScriptHookVDotNet files in the game directory specified by their readme. Do not scatter similarly named DLLs across several folders.
- Install NativeUI only if the jetpack script calls for it. Put its files exactly where the dependency instructions say.
- Launch Story Mode before adding the jetpack itself. If the game cannot start at this point, fix the dependency mismatch before continuing.
Jetpack SP lists the latest ScriptHookV, ScriptHookVDotNet, and NativeUI as requirements. “Latest” changes over time, so verify the versions at the time you install rather than copying the numbers from an old video.
Use OpenIV for archive-based files
OpenIV is an archive editor used for offline GTA V modding. Use it when the jetpack package contains model, texture, or archive replacements, or when its readme names a particular .rpf archive. A script-only package may not need OpenIV at all.

- This game will no longer support Windows 7 or 8 operating systems starting January 30, 2024.
- Install OpenIV and select the GTA V installation that contains
GTA5.exe. - Enable the program’s
modsworkflow if the package instructions call for it. - Before editing, copy the original archive into the
modsfolder, preserving the same path and filename. Edit the copy, not the original installation archive. - Navigate to the exact archive path named by the jetpack readme and import only the supplied files. Do not guess a path based on another vehicle or aircraft mod.
- Save the archive, close OpenIV, and keep a note of every replacement so you can remove it later.
Some downloads include an .oiv package. Install one only according to that package’s own readme and verify that it targets your edition. An automated installer is not a reason to skip the backup step.
Install the jetpack files
With the loaders tested, install the actual jetpack package in the order its author specifies. Script files commonly go in the game root or a scripts folder; model and texture files belong in the archive paths named by the package.
- Extract the download to a temporary folder rather than opening files directly from a compressed archive.
- Read the complete installation and controls sections. Identify the activation key, configuration file, optional components, and removal instructions.
- Copy script files to the stated root or
scriptslocation. Preserve filenames and extensions. - If the package includes model, texture, or archive files, install them through the specified OpenIV path or approved
.oivprocedure. - Leave optional add-ons disabled until the basic jetpack works. This makes a later crash easier to diagnose.
- Start GTA V in Story Mode and use the documented activation key. Test spawning, hovering, forward flight, landing, and any fuel or weapon functions the package claims to provide.
Do not test by joining GTA Online. The correct test environment is an offline or disconnected Story Mode session with the modded files enabled.

Launch the game after each major dependency or mod. A useful sequence is: clean game, Script Hook V, managed dependencies if required, then the jetpack script, followed by archive-based assets. If the game fails immediately after a step, the newest change is the first suspect.

- The biggest, most dynamic and most diverse open world ever created and now packed with layers of new detail.
- Grand Theft Auto V blends storytelling and gameplay in new ways as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of the game's three lead characters, playing all sides of the game's interwoven story.
- Grand Theft Auto V also comes with Grand Theft Auto Online, the dynamic and ever-evolving Grand Theft Auto universe for multiple players.
- Confirm that the game reaches Story Mode before testing the next component.
- Use the activation key from the installed package’s readme; keys differ between releases.
- Test in a simple save with no unrelated scripts active when possible.
- Keep a written list of files added, replaced, or removed.
Never use the modded installation in GTA Online
Script Hook V’s listing states that it does not work in GTA Online and closes GTA V when multiplayer is entered. A modded setup can also contain ASI loaders, managed scripts, or modified archives that are unsuitable for online services. Do not rely on a menu toggle to make that installation safe.
For online play, restore the clean backup or remove and disable Script Hook V, dinput8.dll, ScriptHookVDotNet, NativeUI, jetpack scripts, and modified archives. Launch the unmodified installation and confirm that it starts normally before connecting. Keep separate shortcuts or launcher profiles so you do not accidentally start the modded copy.
What to do after a GTA V update
Game updates can invalidate Script Hook V and individual jetpack scripts. A mismatch commonly prevents launch, produces an immediate crash, or leaves the script inert. Do not force files from another build.
- Note the new GTA V build after the update.
- Check whether a compatible Script Hook V release exists.
- Check the jetpack page for an update or an explicit compatibility statement.
- If no compatible release exists, temporarily remove the loaders and jetpack files or restore the clean backup.
- Reinstall only after the dependency chain supports the new build.
Keep the previous working backup until the updated combination has passed Story Mode testing.

Troubleshooting matrix
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Game will not launch after an update | Script Hook V does not support the installed GTA V build | Compare the game build with the supported Script Hook V release. Replace ScriptHookV.dll with a matching release or temporarily remove Script Hook V and dinput8.dll. |
| Jetpack script does nothing | Missing or incompatible ScriptHookVDotNet/NativeUI, wrong file location, wrong activation key, or the game is not in Story Mode | Recheck the mod’s requirements and readme, verify each dependency version and path, then test the documented key in Story Mode. |
| Jetpack model or texture is missing | Incorrect OpenIV archive path or an archive was edited without first copying it into mods |
Restore the original archive copy, repeat the documented path exactly, and confirm that the supplied model and texture files were imported. |
| Crash after several mods are installed | A file conflict or the newest mod is incompatible | Remove the most recently added mod, retest, and add components back one at a time. Use the backup if the installation no longer starts. |
| Online warning or unexpected closure | Script Hook, an ASI loader, or another mod remains active | Stop using the modded copy. Restore or launch a clean installation with loaders and modified archives removed before going online. |
How to choose between jetpack releases
Do not choose solely by screenshots. Compare the practical details that determine whether you can maintain and remove the mod.
| Decision point | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Edition and build | Legacy or Enhanced, plus the minimum and supported GTA V build | Using the wrong target can cause a failed launch or missing assets. |
| Dependency chain | ASI only, or ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI as well | Every additional dependency must match the game and be maintained after updates. |
| File type | Script-only files versus OpenIV archive, model, and texture changes | Script-only installations are usually easier to reverse; archive edits require careful path and backup management. |
| Controls | Activation key, configuration options, flight controls, and any conflicts | You need a documented way to start, fly, land, and disable the jetpack. |
| Maintenance | Update history and clear removal instructions | A release with explicit rollback steps is safer when GTA V changes. |
Prefer the package with explicit requirements, a reversible installation path, and a readme that identifies its supported edition and build. No authoritative published statistic establishes installation success rates, crash rates, or ban probabilities, so treat claims of guaranteed safety or guaranteed compatibility skeptically.
Removing the jetpack mod
Use the package’s removal instructions first. In general, delete only the files you recorded as additions and restore every replaced archive from your backup. Remove the jetpack script before removing a dependency it needs, then launch Story Mode to verify that the clean installation works. If you cannot identify all changes, restore the untouched game backup rather than deleting random DLLs from the root folder.
Safe-install checklist
- Windows PC version and correct GTA V edition identified.
- Jetpack package checked for minimum game build; JetPack Mod [.NET] requires version 1.42 or newer.
- Original game files and saves backed up.
- Matching Script Hook V release installed beside
GTA5.exe. - ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI installed only when required.
- OpenIV
modsworkflow used for archive edits, with originals copied first. - Jetpack files installed exactly as the package readme specifies.
- Each dependency and mod tested separately in Story Mode.
- File inventory and removal instructions saved.
- Clean installation reserved for GTA Online.
The Bottom Line
The safest method is a reversible, single-player installation: match the jetpack and Script Hook V releases to your GTA V edition and build, back up before editing, add dependencies only when required, test one change at a time, and use a clean installation for GTA Online.
