Install AdminToolkit as two coordinated pieces: build the source into PBO files, patch the mission PBO, place @AdminToolkitServer in the server root, and start the server with -servermod=@AdminToolkitServer. Each administrator also needs the client-side @AdminToolkit enabled. The server will not grant access until the connecting player’s UID is listed in config.cpp, and kick or ban commands require the matching server command password.

What AdminToolkit installs on an Arma 3 server
AdminToolkit (ATK) is a multiplayer server-administration mod that can be extended with user extensions. Its documented feature set includes administrator and moderator modes, godmode, vehicle controls and global chat. The project describes it as a toolkit for administering Arma 3 multiplayer servers and extending it with user extensions.

The installation has separate client and server responsibilities:
- Client:
@AdminToolkitis enabled by the administrator (and any player who needs the client-side functionality) in the Arma 3 Launcher or startup parameters. - Server:
@AdminToolkitServeris copied to the server’s Arma 3 root and loaded with-servermod=@AdminToolkitServer. - Mission: The mission PBO is patched so the toolkit’s mission-side classes and functions are available, then the patched PBO is placed in
mpmissions. - Signature key:
admintoolkit.bikeygoes in the server’skeysdirectory when signature verification is enabled.
Keeping those roles distinct is the central installation rule. Installing only the client folder does not load the server component; installing only the server folder does not give an administrator the client mod required to use the toolkit.

Prerequisites and source layout
The project is distributed as source rather than as a ready-to-run server folder. Before building it, install the following on the Windows machine used to prepare the files:
- Arma 3 Tools through Steam.
- Visual Studio Code.
- The Arma-Dev extension for Visual Studio Code.
Download and extract the a3-admintoolkit repository. Open the extracted folder in Visual Studio Code. Do not copy the unbuilt source tree directly into the live server and expect it to load; the project’s documented workflow is to use the Arma 3: Pack command to create the PBO files first.

Keep a backup of the original configuration and of the mission PBO you intend to patch. That gives you a clean rollback if a configuration edit or patch causes a load error.
Configure administrators, moderators and server commands
Add the owner or administrator UID
Open config.cpp and put the player’s exact Arma 3 UID in the administrator array:
AdminList[] = {"yourPlayerUID"};Replace yourPlayerUID with the actual UID. The value must match the UID reported by the connecting player exactly; a typo, an extra character or the wrong account prevents administrator access even when every file is installed correctly.
Add moderators separately
Moderator access uses its own array:
ModeratorList[] = {"playerUID"};Use this list for people who should receive moderator permissions rather than full administrator permissions. The repository warns that moderator access can be restricted and should be customized in config.cpp. Review the configuration instead of assuming that every moderator action is automatically available.
Enable kick and ban commands
If the toolkit must issue kick or ban commands, set the same server command password used by the Arma 3 server configuration:

ServerCommandPassword = "yoursecretpassword";The string must match the server’s configured command password. A mismatch can leave ordinary toolkit functions working while kick or ban actions fail. Treat this password as server administration data: do not publish it in a community post or give it to players who should not be able to issue server commands.
After editing, save the file and keep the UID and password changes in the source copy you will rebuild. Editing a copy that is never repacked will not change the PBO used by the server.

Build the AdminToolkit PBO files
- Open the extracted
a3-admintoolkitfolder in Visual Studio Code. - Press F1 to open the Command Palette.
- Run Arma 3: Pack.
- Allow the command to build all PBO files.
The pack operation produces the mod files that you will distribute as the client and server components. If the command is missing, verify that Arma 3 Tools is installed through Steam and that the Arma-Dev extension is installed and enabled in Visual Studio Code. Correct those prerequisites before attempting to copy files to the server.
Build again whenever you change config.cpp or any other source file. The running server reads the packed output, not the unsaved source in Visual Studio Code.
Patch the mission PBO
AdminToolkit’s documented integration path uses the included PowerShell patcher. The patcher adds the toolkit integration to an existing mission PBO rather than asking you to rebuild the mission manually.
- From the project folder, run the included PowerShell script:
.setup.ps1 -PatchMission- When the file-selection dialog appears, select the mission PBO that your server will run.
- Wait for the patcher to finish. The patched output is written under
@MissionFile<Your.Mission.pbo>.
Choose the actual mission PBO, including its map and terrain naming, rather than an unrelated mission in the same directory. If you are integrating an extension such as Exile or a custom mission, inspect the repository’s mission-file documentation and preserve the mission’s existing configuration while adding the required toolkit classes and functions. The patcher is the project’s documented route for this integration; do not overwrite the original mission until you have retained a backup.

The output under @MissionFile is the file that belongs in the server’s mpmissions directory. Copying the unpatched original instead is a common reason for a server that loads the mod but does not expose its mission-side functionality.
Copy the client and server files
Client installation
Copy the built @AdminToolkit folder to the player’s Arma 3 game directory. Enable it through the Arma 3 Launcher or by adding it to the player’s startup parameters. The administrator connecting to the server must have this client folder enabled; the server-side folder does not replace it.

Dedicated-server installation
On the dedicated server, place the following items as separate components:

Copy the patched mission with the exact filename expected by the server’s mission configuration. Keep @AdminToolkitServer in the server root rather than inside mpmissions; these directories serve different purposes.
If your server does not use signature verification, the key may not be required for that particular startup policy. When signature verification is enabled, place admintoolkit.bikey in keys so the server can validate the signed files.
Start the server with the correct parameter
Add this parameter to the dedicated-server startup line:
-servermod=@AdminToolkitServerThe spelling, at-sign prefix and parameter name matter. -servermod identifies a server-only mod; it is not the same role as a client -mod entry. If the folder is named differently, either restore the documented folder name or use the exact matching path in the parameter. Start the server after the folder, mission PBO and key are in place.
For a first launch, watch the server output for missing-addon or PBO-load errors. A clean startup does not by itself prove that an administrator is recognized, so perform the UID and in-game checks after the server reaches its normal running state.

On a managed Arma 3 host, the equivalent process is normally performed through FTP or the provider’s file manager:
- Upload
@AdminToolkitServerto the server’s Arma 3 root. - Upload the patched mission PBO into
mpmissions. - Upload
admintoolkit.bikeyintokeyswhen signature verification is enabled. - Open the host’s command-line or startup-parameter manager.
- Add the server-mod parameter required by AdminToolkit:
-servermod=@AdminToolkitServer. - Save the startup configuration and restart the server.
Hosting panels use different labels. Some document mod fields as -Mods or -servermods with semicolon-separated names. Use the parameter required by AdminToolkit’s own README, while following the host’s syntax for entering it. If the panel automatically rewrites or separates parameters, verify the final startup line rather than relying on what was typed into a form.

Optional Workshop pairing
Workshop pairing is optional and applies only when a Workshop item identifier exists for the server mod. Bohemia Interactive’s documented mechanism is a meta.cpp file in the mod root:

Without an identifier, players must install or activate the client mod manually. Workshop metadata does not remove the need to deploy @AdminToolkitServer, patch the mission, or use -servermod=@AdminToolkitServer.
Verify the installation in the right order
Check the installation from the filesystem outward. This sequence separates missing files from permission and identity problems:
- The server starts without a missing-addon or PBO-load error.
@AdminToolkitServerexists in the server root.- The startup line contains
-servermod=@AdminToolkitServer. - The patched mission PBO from
@MissionFileis inmpmissions. admintoolkit.bikeyis inkeyswhen signature verification is enabled.- The connecting administrator has
@AdminToolkitenabled on the client. - The administrator’s UID exactly matches an entry in
AdminList[]. - If kick or ban actions are being tested,
ServerCommandPasswordmatches the server configuration.
Test with the same account whose UID you entered. Testing with a second account can look like an installation failure when it is simply not listed in the administrator or moderator array.

The server reports a missing addon or PBO-load error
Confirm that the packed output was built with Arma 3: Pack, that @AdminToolkitServer is in the server root, and that the startup parameter points to that exact folder name. Also verify that the mission file in mpmissions is the patched output, not the untouched original. A file copied from the source tree before packing may not contain the PBO structure the server expects.

Check the mission integration first. Run .setup.ps1 -PatchMission against the mission PBO that the server actually loads, then replace the server’s copy with the resulting file under @MissionFile. Confirm that the client administrator has enabled @AdminToolkit; the server component alone is not a substitute for the client mod.
The administrator is treated as an ordinary player
Compare the connecting player’s UID character for character with AdminList[]. Rebuild after changing config.cpp, and ensure the rebuilt output is the one installed on the server. If the person should have limited permissions, check ModeratorList[] and the project’s moderator restrictions instead of adding a UID to the wrong list.
Kick or ban commands fail while other controls work
Set ServerCommandPassword to the same value used by the Arma 3 server configuration. Repack the toolkit after editing the setting, deploy the rebuilt files and restart the server. Do not diagnose this as a missing client mod until the password match has been checked.

Signature verification rejects the mod
When verification is enabled, confirm that admintoolkit.bikey is in the server’s keys directory. Check that the key belongs to the files you deployed and that the server is not pointing at a different root or copied release.
A managed-host panel appears to ignore the parameter
Inspect the provider’s generated startup command. If the panel expects semicolon-separated mod names or uses a field labelled -Mods or -servermods, follow its input format but ensure the final command still loads the server component as -servermod=@AdminToolkitServer, as required by the project documentation.
Updating without losing mission or permission changes
Keep the source folder, the edited config.cpp, the original mission PBO and the deployed patched mission in separate backup locations. For an update, apply the new source, re-enter or verify the administrator and moderator arrays, run Arma 3: Pack again, and rerun the mission patcher against the mission version you intend to keep. Deploy the resulting server folder, mission PBO and key as a set, then restart with the same server-mod parameter.
Do not assume that a newly packed toolkit contains your previous configuration. Verify AdminList[], ModeratorList[] and ServerCommandPassword before copying the update. Likewise, patching a different mission PBO does not update the mission currently configured on the server; the filename in mpmissions must correspond to the mission the server launches.
Installation checklist
