What you need before installing
The October update is intended for an RTX Spark laptop or PC running Windows with the NVIDIA app installed. The app is the delivery channel for the DLSS 5 model and the related beta Frame Generation Performance Mode.

- The current NVIDIA app, updated either from inside the app or by downloading the newest app update from NVIDIA’s website.
- A game that has shipped a DLSS 5 integration. Installing the app update alone does not add DLSS 5 to every game.
- For the October beta Frame Generation Performance Mode, the NVIDIA app’s experimental-feature opt-in must be enabled.
Keep the game itself updated as well. DLSS 5 controls only appear when the game’s developer has included the relevant support, so an old game build can hide options that the platform now supports.

Install the October NVIDIA app update
- On the RTX Spark Windows system, open the NVIDIA app.
- Install the newest available app update. You can also download the newest update from NVIDIA’s website and run that installer if the in-app updater does not offer it.
- Restart the app after installation if it closes or asks to relaunch.
The October 13, 2026 announcement identifies October 16 as the RTX Spark launch date. If you are checking before that date, the model may not yet be delivered to the app even when the app is fully updated. After the launch date, an up-to-date app is still not a guarantee that every title will show DLSS 5; the game must contain the integration.
Enable the October Frame Generation Performance Mode beta
The standard app update delivers the platform support. The new October beta package is needed for NVIDIA’s Frame Generation Performance Mode. Enable it only if you want to test that experimental mode.
- Open the NVIDIA app and go to Settings > About.
- Tick Opt in to access Beta or experimental features.
- Wait for the beta package to download.
- When the on-screen prompt appears, click it to install the package.
Opting in is separate from enabling DLSS settings inside a game. It adds the experimental package to the app; the game’s own graphics menu still determines which DLSS features can be selected during play.

Once the beta package is installed, select a supported title and set the October model through the NVIDIA app.
- Open Graphics in the NVIDIA app.
- Select a supported Frame Generation, Multi Frame Generation, or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation game.
- To apply the choice to every supported title, use Global Settings. To limit it to one game, keep the game’s individual graphics profile selected.
- Open Driver Settings.
- Choose DLSS Override – Model Presets.
- Select Custom.
- Open the Frame Generation drop-down.
- Choose Preset C, then click Apply.
Preset C is the setting NVIDIA specifies for the October Frame Generation model. If it is not listed, reboot the RTX Spark system and check the same path again. The reboot instruction is specifically part of NVIDIA’s guidance for a missing Preset C entry.
The override does not manufacture DLSS support in a game. It changes the model preset for titles whose graphics integration already supports the applicable frame-generation path. A game that has no DLSS or frame-generation integration will not gain one from this menu.
Turn on DLSS 5 in a supported game
After applying the app setting, launch the game and open its graphics or display settings. Select the DLSS options that the developer has exposed. Depending on the title, those options can include Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, or 3D-Guided Neural Rendering.
NBA 2K27
NBA 2K27 receives the faster DLSS 5 model on October 16, 2026, for RTX Spark, GeForce RTX 50 Series, and GeForce NOW. Update the game, launch it after applying the app profile, and use NBA 2K27’s own DLSS or graphics menu to choose the available mode. NVIDIA reports up to a 1.4× frame-rate uplift for the new model in NBA 2K27; that figure is NVIDIA’s stated result for the title, not a universal performance guarantee for every scene or configuration.

Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to add DLSS 5 with 3D-Guided Neural Rendering on November 5, 2026. The announced rollout covers RTX Spark, GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW, and compatible systems. Until the game update is released, the NVIDIA app cannot expose a DLSS 5 option that the game does not yet contain.
Where Winds Meet
Where Winds Meet is scheduled to add DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering in late November 2026. The exact late-November day is not stated in NVIDIA’s announcement, so availability should be checked against the game’s update notes rather than assumed from the RTX Spark launch date.
What the game menu controls
The game remains the place where you choose the visual mode the developer has implemented. The NVIDIA app can select the driver-side model preset and, where supported, apply it globally; it cannot expose a rendering feature that is absent from the title’s code. If the game’s menu lists Super Resolution but not Ray Reconstruction or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, use only the listed features.
Enable DLSS 5 in RTX Remix
RTX Remix follows a separate schedule and setup path. NVIDIA’s RTX Remix update with DLSS 5 and the faster Frame Generation Performance Mode is scheduled for October 23, 2026.
- Download the latest RTX Remix from the NVIDIA app Home screen or from GitHub.
- Start the RTX Remix project or game runtime.
- Press Alt + X to open the RTX Remix Runtime User Guide overlay.
- Open Developer Settings.
- Enable DLSS 5 in the runtime or toolkit menu.
The Alt + X overlay path applies to the RTX Remix runtime and toolkit, not to ordinary games. Before the October 23 update is available, the RTX Remix menu may not contain the DLSS 5 switch even if the NVIDIA app on the same RTX Spark system is current.
What changed in the October DLSS 5 model
NVIDIA describes the October model as a smaller, less demanding version of the September model while maintaining comparable visual fidelity. The figures below are NVIDIA’s 2026 claims and should be read with that attribution.

The practical consequence is that the October model is designed to leave more GPU and VRAM capacity for the game itself. Lower overhead does not mean every RTX Spark configuration will show the same frame-rate increase: the 1.4× figure is specifically tied to NVIDIA’s NBA 2K27 result, while the model-size and memory figures describe the update’s design changes.

Supported features and rollout dates
RTX Spark’s platform announcement confirms support for Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, and 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. Support is still title-specific: the hardware can support a feature while an individual game waits for its own update.

Troubleshooting the common installation problems
The NVIDIA app has no October update
Confirm the calendar date first: RTX Spark DLSS 5 availability begins October 16, 2026. Then restart the NVIDIA app and check for its newest update. NVIDIA also permits downloading the newest app update from its website, which is the alternative when the in-app updater does not present the package.
The beta Performance Mode is not downloading
Go to Settings > About and verify that Opt in to access Beta or experimental features is ticked. The package does not install merely because the regular app update completed; you must opt in and then accept the on-screen installation prompt.
Preset C is missing
Reboot the RTX Spark system, reopen the app, and return to Graphics > Driver Settings > DLSS Override – Model Presets > Custom > Frame Generation. NVIDIA specifically advises a reboot when Preset C is not visible. If it remains absent, verify that the beta package finished installing and that the selected title supports a frame-generation path covered by the override.

DLSS 5 does not appear in the game
Check the game’s update status and its own graphics menu. DLSS 5 is delivered through title integrations; it is not a driver-only switch that can be forced into every game. NBA 2K27 is the first named launch title, while Hogwarts Legacy and Where Winds Meet are scheduled for later updates.
RTX Remix has no DLSS 5 setting
Use the latest RTX Remix build from the NVIDIA app Home screen or GitHub, press Alt + X, and look under Developer Settings. The DLSS 5 addition is scheduled for October 23, so the control may not exist before that runtime update.
The result is slower than expected
The October model’s advertised reductions are NVIDIA’s comparisons with the September model, and the NBA 2K27 uplift is an “up to” result. Frame rate still depends on the title, selected resolution, ray-tracing features, frame-generation mode, and the scene being rendered. Use the game’s own settings to choose among the modes it exposes rather than assuming that the highest-numbered mode is optimal for every workload.
A safe order for updating and testing
- Update the NVIDIA app.
- If you need the beta Performance Mode, opt in under Settings > About and install the downloaded package.
- Reboot before troubleshooting a missing Preset C entry.
- Set Preset C for one supported game first instead of immediately changing Global Settings.
- Launch the updated game and confirm its own DLSS menu contains the expected option.
- Only after the per-game profile works, use Global Settings for other supported titles.
- For RTX Remix, update the runtime separately and use its Alt + X > Developer Settings path after the October 23 release.
This sequence separates three different layers that are easy to confuse: the NVIDIA app update, the optional beta package, and the game’s or RTX Remix runtime’s own integration. A failure at one layer should be fixed there rather than by repeatedly changing an unrelated menu.
The Bottom Line
On RTX Spark, install the newest NVIDIA app update, opt into the beta package for Frame Generation Performance Mode, and set Preset C at Graphics > Driver Settings > DLSS Override – Model Presets > Custom > Frame Generation. Then enable whatever DLSS 5 options the supported game’s own menu provides.
