Install Firefox from Mozilla’s official download service on a Windows PC, Mac or Linux computer, or from your device’s official app marketplace on Android and iPhone. The correct route depends on your operating system: Windows also offers a Microsoft Store listing, Linux distributions maintain their own packages, and ChromeOS has a dedicated Mozilla procedure. Check compatibility first, install only from an official channel, and let Firefox update through the channel that installed it.
Before you install Firefox
Identify the operating system and edition on the device you will use. An installer intended for Windows cannot be used on macOS, Linux or ChromeOS, and a mobile app should come only from the phone or tablet’s official marketplace. Using the matching channel prevents mismatched files and makes future updates predictable.

Compatibility checkpoints
| Platform | Requirement or lifecycle note | Recommended installation source |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 | Supported desktop platform | Mozilla’s Windows installer or the Microsoft Store listing |
| Windows 10 | Microsoft support ended on October 14, 2025; moving to a supported Windows release is advisable when practical | Mozilla’s Windows installer or the Microsoft Store listing, subject to the operating system’s status |
| Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 | Firefox 115 ESR is the last supported Firefox release | Use Mozilla’s guidance for the 115 ESR lifecycle rather than expecting current feature releases |
| macOS | Check Mozilla’s current Mac requirement before downloading because supported versions can change | Mozilla’s Mac download page |
| Linux | Use the procedure for your distribution | Mozilla’s Linux installation article or your distribution’s package channel |
| ChromeOS | Use Mozilla’s separate ChromeOS procedure | Mozilla’s “Run Firefox on ChromeOS” instructions |
| Android | Android 8.0 or newer | Google Play, Samsung Galaxy Store or Huawei AppGallery, as available on the device |
| iPhone, iPad and iPod touch | iOS 15 or newer | Apple App Store |
Mozilla lists Windows Phone, Windows RT, Bada, Symbian, BlackBerry OS, webOS and HarmonyOS NEXT as unsupported mobile operating systems. If your device uses one of those systems, an official Firefox installation is not available through Mozilla’s current mobile channels.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use an official source
For desktop systems, start at Mozilla’s Firefox installation hub or download page. On mobile, open the marketplace supplied with the device and search for Firefox. Confirm that Mozilla is shown as the publisher before selecting Install or Get. Avoid download aggregators and repackaged installers: they are outside Mozilla’s distribution path and can have different update behavior.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Administrator access and network access
The installer or operating-system store may ask for permission to install software. Follow the account or system prompts shown on your device; the exact request depends on the platform and the chosen route. A normal internet connection is needed to obtain the installer or app. If you are installing on a managed work or school device, an administrator may control which applications can be installed.
Install Firefox on Windows
Option 1: Mozilla’s Windows installer
- Open a browser that is already installed and go to Mozilla’s official Firefox download page.
- Choose the Windows download. Save the installer when the browser asks where to keep it.
- Open the downloaded installer and approve the Windows permission prompt if one appears.
- Follow the Firefox Setup prompts until installation completes. Keep the default choices unless your organization requires a different location or configuration.
- Launch Firefox from the Start menu or the shortcut created by Setup.
Downloading directly from Mozilla gives you the installer supplied by Firefox’s publisher. Do not substitute a third-party “download” button that could provide a bundled or altered file.
Option 2: Microsoft Store
- Open the Microsoft Store from the Windows Start menu.
- Search for Mozilla Firefox and open the listing whose publisher is Mozilla.
- Select Get or Install and wait for the Store to finish.
- Start Firefox from the Store page or the Start menu.
The Store is a separate distribution route. Store-managed applications receive their updates through the Microsoft Store rather than through the same controls used by a standalone Mozilla installer.

Installing on an older Windows PC
Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are limited to Firefox 115 ESR, which Mozilla identifies as the last supported release for those systems. That release is not the same as receiving current Firefox feature versions. Windows 10 reached the end of Microsoft support on October 14, 2025, so upgrading the operating system is the more durable solution when the hardware and software allow it. If an upgrade is impossible, read Mozilla’s lifecycle guidance for your exact Windows edition before choosing an installer.

- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Install Firefox on macOS
- Open Safari or another browser already on the Mac and visit Mozilla’s Firefox download page.
- Select Download Now.
- When macOS says that Firefox is an app downloaded from the internet, select Open to allow the download to run.
- Complete the installation prompts shown by macOS, then open Firefox from the Applications folder or the Dock.
The warning about an app downloaded from the internet is a normal macOS confirmation for software obtained outside the Mac App Store. Proceed only after confirming that the download came from Mozilla’s official page.
Install Firefox on Linux
Mozilla provides a Linux installation article from its installation hub. Open that article and select the instructions that match your distribution instead of applying Windows or Mac steps. Linux distributions commonly offer Firefox through their own software center or package manager, while Mozilla also documents a direct installation route.
Understand who supplies updates
A package-manager installation is maintained by the Linux distribution. Mozilla states that those builds receive updates through the distribution’s software updates, not through Firefox’s in-browser update controls. This difference matters when troubleshooting an old version: check the distribution’s updater or package manager first.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose the route that fits your device
- Use the distribution package when you want updates integrated with the rest of the operating system.
- Use Mozilla’s documented Linux route when your distribution’s package is unavailable or its release policy does not meet your needs.
- Do not mix files from unrelated Linux distributions; follow the procedure written for your distribution and release.
Install Firefox on ChromeOS
Chromebook installation is handled separately from desktop Windows, Mac and Linux instructions. Open Mozilla’s current Run Firefox on ChromeOS article from the Firefox installation hub and follow its device-specific procedure. ChromeOS may present its own permission, container or application prompts, so do not try to run a Windows installer or copy the Mac steps onto a Chromebook.

If your Chromebook is managed by a school or employer, the administrator can restrict Linux or application installation. In that situation, the ChromeOS procedure may be unavailable even when the hardware itself is compatible.
Install Firefox on Android
- Open Google Play, Samsung Galaxy Store or Huawei AppGallery, depending on which marketplace your Android device provides.
- Search for Firefox and open the listing published by Mozilla.
- Check that the device meets the Android 8.0 minimum before selecting Install.
- Allow the marketplace to download and install the app, then open Firefox from the home screen or app drawer.
Use the marketplace’s exact Firefox listing rather than an APK obtained from an unrelated website. Official marketplaces provide the normal signing and update path for the device. Mozilla says most marketplaces automatically keep Firefox up to date, although the device’s marketplace settings and network connection still control when an update is delivered.
Install Firefox on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
- Open the Apple App Store.
- Search for Firefox and verify that Mozilla is the publisher.
- Confirm that the device runs iOS 15 or newer.
- Tap Get, authenticate with the Apple account prompt if requested, and wait for the installation to finish.
- Open Firefox from the App Store page or the Home Screen.
If the App Store reports that the app is incompatible, check the iOS version and the device model before troubleshooting the download. An unsupported operating system cannot be made compatible by reinstalling the same app.
Compare Firefox installation routes
| Route | Source trust | Who owns updates | Platform scope | Offline installer or package detail |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mozilla desktop download | Directly supplied by Mozilla | Firefox’s own updater in normal desktop installations | Windows, macOS and Mozilla-documented Linux routes | Mozilla supplies an installer file; offline-use details depend on the installer and platform |
| Microsoft Store | Official Windows Store listing; verify Mozilla as publisher | Microsoft Store | Windows 10 and Windows 11 listing | Not stated for the Store route |
| Linux distribution package | Official distribution software channel | Linux distribution software updates | Linux distributions that package Firefox | Package-manager availability depends on the distribution |
| Google Play, Galaxy Store or AppGallery | Official Android marketplace; verify Mozilla as publisher | The marketplace, normally automatically | Android devices with a supported marketplace | Not stated for marketplace downloads |
| Apple App Store | Official Apple marketplace; verify Mozilla as publisher | App Store | iPhone, iPad and iPod touch meeting the iOS requirement | Not stated for the App Store route |
There is no single best route for every device. Choose the route that matches the operating system and that you can continue to update. On a Linux computer, for example, the distribution package changes who handles updates; on Windows, the Store and standalone installer have different update owners.

Update Firefox after installation
Automatic updates
Mozilla states that “Firefox updates automatically in most cases.” Leave the normal update setting enabled unless an administrator has a specific reason to manage updates manually. Automatic updating reduces the chance that an installation remains on an obsolete release, but the delivery mechanism still depends on how Firefox was installed.
Manual update in a standard desktop installation
- Open Firefox and select the menu button.
- Choose Help, then About Firefox.
- Allow Firefox to check for and download an available update.
- Select Restart when the download completes.
The About Firefox check applies to the standard desktop installation. It does not replace the distribution updater for Linux package-manager builds or the Microsoft Store for Store-installed Windows builds.
Route-specific update controls
- Linux package: open your distribution’s software updater or package manager.
- Microsoft Store: use the Store’s library or update controls.
- Android and iOS: use the device marketplace’s update controls; most marketplaces can update Firefox automatically.
Fix common installation and update problems
The installer will not install or an update fails
- Download the Firefox installer again from Mozilla’s official page.
- Close all Firefox windows.
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Restart Firefox after installation finishes.
- If the problem remains, restart the computer and run the installer once more.
Mozilla’s installation guidance says that running the installer over an existing installation preserves user data. The procedure is therefore a repair or update attempt, not an instruction to delete your profile first.

The app is missing from a marketplace
Check that you are using the marketplace supported by the device: Google Play, Samsung Galaxy Store or Huawei AppGallery for Android, and the Apple App Store for Apple devices. Verify the operating-system requirement and the publisher shown on the listing. A marketplace restricted by region, device policy or administrator settings may not show the app even when the operating system would otherwise qualify.

The installed version is older than expected
First identify the installation route. Check About Firefox for a standard desktop installation, the Linux distribution updater for a package build, the Microsoft Store for a Store build, or the relevant mobile marketplace for a phone or tablet. Updating in the wrong place can make it appear that Firefox is stuck when the correct channel is simply different.
The operating system is unsupported
Do not bypass a compatibility warning with an unofficial download. For older Windows versions, use Mozilla’s stated 115 ESR lifecycle information; for mobile, the minimums are Android 8.0 and iOS 15. If the device cannot meet the requirement, updating the operating system or replacing the device is the supported path.
Uninstall Firefox and decide what happens to personal data
Mozilla’s installation hub links to an uninstall article that distinguishes removing the Firefox application from removing stored personal information. Follow the uninstall procedure for your operating system and read each prompt carefully. Removing the application and deleting profile data are separate choices; choose the data option only when you intentionally want stored Firefox information removed.

Quick installation checklist
- Confirm the operating system and its supported version.
- Use Mozilla’s desktop download, the Microsoft Store, your Linux distribution’s package channel or the device’s official mobile marketplace.
- Verify Mozilla as the publisher before installing a mobile app.
- Keep the installation route in mind because it determines where updates arrive.
- Use About Firefox only for standard desktop installations; use the Store, distribution updater or mobile marketplace for managed builds.
- If an update fails, close Firefox, rerun the official installer, restart Firefox and then restart the computer if necessary.
