McMyAdmin still works for maintaining an older Minecraft setup, but it is legacy software. Its publisher says McMyAdmin was replaced by AMP in 2018 and no longer receives feature updates, so AMP is the sensible starting point for a new installation. If you must operate an existing McMyAdmin deployment, this guide covers the supported installation paths, Minecraft Java server setup, network exposure, and the failures most likely to stop you.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Minecraft Java servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Decide whether McMyAdmin is appropriate
McMyAdmin is a web control panel that manages a Minecraft server; it is not the Minecraft server itself. The panel provides administration, while the game server still needs its own compatible Java runtime, world files, port, memory allocation, and accepted EULA.

The replacement happened in 2018, and McMyAdmin 2 no longer receives feature updates. That distinction matters: a new public server should normally use the successor, while McMyAdmin is mainly a migration, maintenance, or compatibility choice for an existing installation.
- Choose McMyAdmin for: a legacy server that already depends on it, a documented older environment, or a temporary maintenance project where changing panels would create more risk.
- Choose the successor for: a new deployment that needs ongoing updates, current platform support, and a maintained administration panel.
- Choose direct server administration or managed hosting for: a setup where you do not want to maintain an operating system, Java, firewall rules, backups, and updates yourself.
McMyAdmin’s publisher has claimed that more than 75,000 Minecraft servers worldwide and more than 35 service providers have used it. Those are publisher marketing figures, and the page does not state a publication year; they should not be treated as a current independent usage measurement.

Account and access requirements
On Unix-like systems, use root only for system-level preparation such as creating or extracting files under /usr/local. Download McMyAdmin, set its password, and run the panel as a dedicated non-root account. Running the panel as root increases the impact of a compromised web interface and can leave world files owned by the wrong user.
You also need shell access, enough disk space for the panel, the Minecraft server, downloaded libraries, logs, and worlds, and permission to bind the ports you plan to use. Keep the panel’s administration port separate from the Minecraft game port.

The McMyAdmin panel does not remove the Minecraft server’s runtime requirement. Minecraft’s official Java server instructions require Java to be available from the command line; on Windows, Java may need to be added to PATH. Check the Java requirement against the exact Minecraft server version you intend to install because supported Java releases change with Minecraft versions.
This article describes the Java Edition server flow. Bedrock Dedicated Server is a separate product with separate downloads and configuration files. Its official distribution is a Windows or Ubuntu/Linux ZIP that you extract to an empty folder and launch with the supplied executable or command-line file; do not treat it as the Java server package selected in a McMyAdmin Java setup.
Install McMyAdmin on 64-bit Linux
The native Linux instructions use two archives: shared support files under /usr/local and the McMyAdmin binary in your home directory. The first preparation commands are run as root; the remaining commands are run as the account that will operate the server.
1. Install the shared files as root
cd /usr/local
wget https://mcmyadmin.com/Downloads/etc.zip
unzip etc.zip; rm etc.zip
The download URL and archive name are part of the legacy installation procedure. If your distribution does not include unzip, install that package through its normal package manager before continuing.

unzip MCMA2_glibc26_2.zip
rm MCMA2_glibc26_2.zip
The directory must belong to the account that will run the panel. Keeping the installation in that account’s home directory also avoids accidentally making the web process write files as root.

3. Set the panel password before first launch
./MCMA2_Linux_x86_64 -setpass [YOURPASSWORD] -configonly
Replace [YOURPASSWORD] with a long, unique password. The -configonly option writes initial configuration without starting the full panel.
4. Launch from the installation directory
cd ~/McMyAdmin
./MCMA2_Linux_x86_64
McMyAdmin must be started while your current working directory is its installation directory. The official instructions warn that it cannot be launched through a relative or absolute path while your shell is somewhere else. If you see missing-file errors despite a correct extraction, run pwd, change into ~/McMyAdmin, and launch again.
5. Open the web interface
Once the process reports that it is listening, open the panel from a browser on the server or from an allowed management machine. Use the password configured in the previous step. Do not publish the administration interface to the entire internet until you have applied firewall restrictions, changed any default binding that is too broad, and confirmed that only intended administrators can reach it.

There is no native McMyAdmin build for these platforms. Install the Mono framework supplied for your operating system first, then use the .NET executable through the mono command.
1. Download the Mono-based package
mkdir ~/McMyAdmin
cd ~/McMyAdmin
wget https://mcmyadmin.com/Downloads/MCMA2-Latest.zip
unzip MCMA2-Latest.zip
rm MCMA2-Latest.zip
Use a dedicated account rather than root. Verify that the extracted directory contains McMyAdmin.exe before continuing.
2. Create the initial configuration and password
mono McMyAdmin.exe -setpass [YOURPASSWORD] -configonly
The password is the credential for the web panel, not a Minecraft account password. Store it in a password manager and do not paste it into shell history that other users can read.
3. Launch from the same directory
cd ~/McMyAdmin
mono McMyAdmin.exe
As with the native binary, the working directory requirement is strict. Start the process from ~/McMyAdmin, not from a parent directory using a full path. If Mono reports an assembly or runtime error, confirm that Mono is installed for the correct architecture and that you extracted the complete archive rather than only copying the executable.

Install McMyAdmin on Windows
Supported Windows versions
The legacy installer supports Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 or newer. Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 are unsupported. A supported operating system does not by itself guarantee that a particular current Minecraft server version will run; Java compatibility must still be checked separately.
Install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
McMyAdmin requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. On a desktop edition, enable or install that framework through Windows’ optional features or the appropriate Microsoft installer. On Windows Server, add the .NET 3.5 feature through Server Manager and provide installation media if Windows requests a source path.
Run the installer and protect the service
- Run the McMyAdmin installer with an account permitted to install software and create its service or startup entry.
- Choose a data directory on a volume with room for worlds, backups, logs, and temporary downloads.
- Set a strong panel password during first-run configuration.
- Allow the panel through Windows Firewall only on the management networks that need it.
- Start the panel and confirm that its web page loads locally before testing remote administration.
Windows Server Core
Server Core users should use the core archive and follow its command-line service instructions instead of relying on the graphical installer. Keep the service account’s file permissions limited to the McMyAdmin and Minecraft data directories, and record the service name and startup command so you can stop or recover it without a graphical session.
Configure and start the Minecraft Java server
Installing the panel only creates the administration layer. Complete the following sequence in McMyAdmin after the web interface is available.
1. Select the server software and version
Use McMyAdmin’s server selection or installation control to choose the Minecraft Java server variant and exact version you want. Do not assume that an old panel bundle includes a current server or a compatible Java runtime. Check the release’s Java requirement before downloading it, and keep the server JAR and its libraries in the data directory managed by the panel.
2. Start once and accept the EULA
Start the server from the panel. Minecraft will create its initial files and may stop while waiting for EULA acceptance. Open the generated eula.txt, read the license, and change the setting to eula=true only if you agree to it. Start the server again and watch the console for the message that it has finished loading.
3. Allocate memory conservatively
Set minimum and maximum heap values appropriate to the machine, the selected Minecraft version, the number of players, loaded worlds, and installed server modifications. Leave memory for the operating system, McMyAdmin, Java’s non-heap areas, file cache, and backups. Giving Java nearly all physical RAM can make the host swap or kill processes; giving it too little causes slow chunk loading and out-of-memory errors. Increase the allocation in measured steps while watching system memory and server logs rather than copying a generic number.

- Cross platform play for up to five players between Pocket Edition and Windows 10

4. Configure the world and administration settings
Set the world name, difficulty, game mode, view or simulation distance, operator accounts, and whitelist according to your community’s needs. Keep the whitelist enabled while testing if the server is not intended to be public yet. Use separate administrator credentials for the panel and for Minecraft operator access.
5. Confirm a clean local start
Connect from the host itself or from a device on the same LAN using the server’s private address and game port. Test login, movement, block interaction, command permissions, world saves, and a controlled stop/start cycle. A local connection isolates Minecraft configuration problems from router and firewall problems.
Ports, firewalls, and remote players
There are two different network surfaces: the McMyAdmin web panel and the Minecraft game server. Keep their ports distinct. The official Minecraft Java server guidance identifies 25565 as the default Java game port and notes that outside players may require firewall and port-forwarding changes.
Allow the game port on the host firewall
Create an inbound rule for the actual Minecraft port configured in server.properties. Permit the protocol required by that server, restrict the source networks where practical, and leave the panel’s administration port restricted to trusted addresses. A successful local connection does not prove that the host firewall allows remote traffic.
Forward the port at the router
If the server is behind a home or office router, forward the chosen game port from the public interface to the server’s fixed private IP address. Reserve that private address with DHCP or configure a static address so the rule does not break after a reboot. Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot; testing from inside the same LAN can be misleading when the router lacks hairpin NAT.
Check upstream restrictions
Some internet connections use carrier-grade NAT or block inbound ports. In that case, ordinary port forwarding cannot make the server public. Ask the provider whether you have a reachable public address or need a different network arrangement. Do not expose the administration panel as a workaround.
Protect the panel
- Bind administrative access to a private interface or VPN where possible.
- Use a unique, high-entropy password and change it if it has been shared.
- Allow only trusted source addresses through the host and router firewalls.
- Keep operating-system, Java, and panel files backed up before changing versions.
- Review logs for repeated login failures and unexpected console commands.
Backups, updates, and routine operation
Back up the right data
Back up the Minecraft world directories, server.properties, whitelist and operator files, McMyAdmin configuration, and any scripts or custom libraries. A backup that contains only the world but not the panel configuration will not restore the same administration environment. Stop the server or use a panel-supported save procedure before copying world files so region data is consistent.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
Plan for legacy software risk
Because McMyAdmin 2 is no longer receiving feature updates, treat every exposed panel as a security and compatibility liability. Keep it behind a firewall or VPN, avoid installing it on a machine that hosts unrelated sensitive services, and document the exact binary, operating system, Mono or .NET version, Java version, and Minecraft version. Test restoration on a separate machine before making a production change.
Separate panel and game maintenance
A Minecraft version update can require a different Java release or new world backup, while a panel change can affect service startup and file permissions. Schedule them separately, record the old versions, and retain a rollback copy. Never overwrite a working world or executable without a tested backup.
McMyAdmin and its successor: what changes?
| Decision factor | McMyAdmin 2 | AMP | What to ask before migrating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Support status | Legacy; no feature updates since the 2018 replacement | Identified by the publisher as the successor | Does the current release support your operating system, Java version, and Minecraft variant? |
| Runtime burden | Native 64-bit Linux, or Mono on 32-bit Linux, macOS, and BSD; .NET 3.5 SP1 on Windows | Current requirements should be checked in its documentation | Can you standardize the host and service account? |
| Web administration | Provides the legacy control-panel workflow described here | Current feature set should be verified before migration | Which console, backup, API, and multi-instance functions must be preserved? |
| Network responsibility | You still manage firewall rules, router forwarding, and panel access | Moving panels does not remove those network duties | Which ports can remain private, and which must be public? |
| Migration risk | Existing worlds and settings may depend on old paths or permissions | Requires a tested import or recreation plan | Can you restore a complete backup on a staging host first? |
Migration is not simply replacing one executable. Inventory worlds, plugins or mods, Java requirements, scheduled tasks, backups, DNS records, firewall rules, and player permissions. Build the new panel on a separate directory or host, restore a copy of the world, and cut over only after local and remote tests pass.
Troubleshooting checklist
“No such file” or missing-library errors on Linux
- Confirm that the support archive was extracted under
/usr/local. - Run
pwdand launch from the McMyAdmin directory itself. - Check that the executable has permission to run and that the service account can read every extracted file.
- Verify that you selected the native 64-bit package for a 64-bit host rather than the Mono package.
Mono will not start the executable
Confirm Mono is installed and matches the operating system architecture. Ensure McMyAdmin.exe is in the current directory and that the archive was fully extracted. Run the command exactly as mono McMyAdmin.exe from that directory; invoking it through a path elsewhere can trigger the same working-directory failure seen with the native binary.
Windows reports a missing .NET component
Install or enable .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. On Server editions, add the feature in Server Manager and provide the Windows installation source if requested. XP and Server 2003 cannot be made supported by adding a later framework; move the installation to a supported Windows release.
The panel opens but the Minecraft server exits
- Run the Minecraft server’s Java command manually or inspect the panel console for the exact Java error.
- Check that Java is on
PATHand is compatible with the selected Minecraft release. - Read the EULA file and set
eula=trueonly after accepting it. - Reduce or correct heap settings if the host is out of memory.
- Check that the game port is not already occupied by another server.
Local players can connect, but internet players cannot
Verify the server’s private address, host firewall rule, router forward, public address, and configured game port. Test from an external network. If the ISP uses carrier-grade NAT or blocks inbound traffic, port forwarding alone will not solve the problem.
The server works, but files are owned by root
Stop McMyAdmin, inspect ownership of the panel and world directories, and change ownership to the dedicated service account. Restart as that account. Do not solve permission errors by running the entire panel as root; that hides the underlying ownership problem and increases exposure.
Safe first-day operating procedure
- Record the operating system, McMyAdmin package, Mono or .NET version, Java version, Minecraft version, panel port, and game port.
- Confirm that the panel runs as a dedicated non-root or restricted Windows service account.
- Set a unique panel password and restrict administrative access by firewall or VPN.
- Install the Java server, accept the EULA deliberately, and set conservative memory limits.
- Connect locally, test permissions and saves, and create a restorable backup.
- Open the game port only after local testing; keep the panel port private.
- Test an external player connection, then monitor logs, memory, disk space, and backup results.
For a new server, the publisher’s own guidance is clear: start with AMP rather than McMyAdmin. For a legacy server, install McMyAdmin in its own directory, launch it from that directory under a restricted account, treat Java and Minecraft as separate compatibility requirements, and expose only the game port that outside players actually need.
