For supported mods, open Mod Manager from Baldur’s Gate 3’s main menu, sign in to mod.io if prompted, and download the mods you want. Check the Installed tab afterward to confirm they are installed and enabled.
Install supported mods with the in-game Mod Manager
- Launch Baldur’s Gate 3 and choose Mod Manager from the main menu.
- Sign in to mod.io if the game prompts you. Once signed in, browse the available mods.
- Choose a mod and select Download. Repeat for any other mods you want.
- Open Installed and check that each mod is listed and enabled. If a mod needs an update, Larian says an Update button appears there.
These steps describe the supported in-game route. The available listings and whether a particular mod remains compatible can change after game updates. See Larian’s Official Mod Support FAQ and mod.io’s Baldur’s Gate 3 sign-in instructions.
Keep mods compatible in multiplayer
Everyone joining a modded multiplayer session needs the same mods and versions. When you load a modded save or join a session, the Verification Window may offer options to download a missing mod, enable a disabled one, or update or downgrade a version so it matches. It can also identify new or third-party mods. Larian explains the process in its Synchronising Mods FAQ.
Supported mods and third-party mods are different routes
Larian’s in-game Mod Manager is the supported route for browsing and installing mods available there. Third-party mods made with tools other than Larian’s Toolkit remain usable, but they may not receive the same official troubleshooting or multiplayer synchronization behavior. There is no single installation procedure for every third-party mod, so follow the instructions from that mod’s author rather than assuming it installs through the in-game manager.

Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. The Toolkit is a separate tool for creating mods, not a prerequisite for installing ordinary supported mods. Larian describes it as a free Steam download for Windows PC; it is unavailable on Mac and consoles and requires a 64-bit processor and operating system plus 160 GB of free space. Those requirements apply to the creator tool, not to installing supported mods. Details are in the Official Mod Support FAQ.

Mod-related issues can include a save that will not load, a crash on launch, interface problems, or missing textures. A game update, mod conflict, or dependency can be involved; an official listing does not guarantee that a mod will remain compatible indefinitely. Larian recommends keeping supported mods updated and checking whether the problem persists with mods disabled.
