You can try ReSkate on Steam Deck by installing its Windows files in Desktop Mode, then adding ReSkateLauncher.exe to Steam and running it with Proton. The Deck-specific steps are community practice rather than official ReSkate instructions, so compatibility is not guaranteed. You’ll need your own Steam copy of skate., and ReSkate currently checks for a specific supported game build.
Before you install ReSkate
- You need the Steam version of skate. and a Steam Deck with access to Desktop Mode.
- ReSkate is a fan project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Electronic Arts or Full Circle. Its multiplayer uses ReSkate lobbies and dedicated servers, not EA’s official servers.
- ReSkate’s README identified Steam game build
25414733as the supported build when checked on October 7, 2026. That can change, so check the ReSkate README before installing.
Valve says Steam Deck runs SteamOS, includes Proton for running Windows games, and provides access to the desktop. ReSkate’s official installation guide, however, describes Windows-style files and does not document a Steam Deck setup. One community post reports ReSkate running on a Steam Deck OLED with Proton Experimental; that is an individual report, not a compatibility guarantee for every Deck or version. See Valve’s Steam Deck Software page and the community report.
Install ReSkate on Steam Deck
The steps below combine ReSkate’s official file and launcher sequence with a community-reported Deck approach. The exact behavior may vary as ReSkate and SteamOS change.
- Switch to Desktop Mode. Open the Steam menu, choose Power, then Switch to Desktop.
- Download the current release ZIP. Use the ReSkate releases page. The page showed v1.1.2, released October 6, 2026, when checked October 7, 2026; the current version may be different by the time you install.
- Extract the ZIP. ReSkate’s README says to extract
ReSkateLauncher.exeandReSkate.dllbesideSkate.exe, or into an empty folder where the launcher can install the game. Keeping the files beside the game executable follows the documented placement most directly. - Add the launcher to Steam. Open Steam in Desktop Mode, choose Games > Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library, browse to
ReSkateLauncher.exe, and add it. - Set a Proton compatibility option if needed. In Steam, open the launcher shortcut’s Properties > Compatibility, enable the option to force a compatibility tool, then select Proton Experimental. This setting was reported to work by one Steam Deck OLED user; it is a troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed fix.
- Launch ReSkate. Run the shortcut from Steam. The launcher checks the game files and, if needed, authenticates or downloads through Steam. When it is ready, choose PLAY.
The launcher handles ReSkate updates. If it rejects the game files or reports an unsupported build, check the README for the currently supported Steam build rather than assuming the installed game is compatible.

Choose a way to connect to multiplayer
After ReSkate launches, open its multiplayer options or server browser. The project documents two distinct ways to play online:
| Option | Best for | How access works |
|---|---|---|
| Steam lobby | Playing with friends in a hosted party | Host or join a public lobby, or use a lobby code. The README says a lobby can hold up to 32 players and can optionally be password-protected. |
| Dedicated server | Joining a listed server rather than arranging a friends lobby | Select an available server in ReSkate’s in-game server browser. Availability depends on community-hosted servers. |
ReSkate’s README says offline play does not require EA servers and separately documents its own lobbies and community dedicated servers. Joining ReSkate multiplayer therefore does not connect you to EA’s official online service.

The launcher does not open
Try forcing Proton Experimental for the non-Steam launcher shortcut, then launch it again. This is based on a single community report, so it may not resolve every Deck-specific issue. Confirm that the two ReSkate files are in the documented location and that the game build matches the one supported in the current README.
The launcher reports a game-file or build problem
Use the README to check the supported build and follow the launcher’s file-check process. The supported build can change; the value 25414733 was listed on October 7, 2026, not as a permanent requirement.

You cannot find the menu or server browser
ReSkate documents Insert as the default key for its in-game menu. The menu and console bindings can be changed in launcher settings, which may help if the default key is awkward on Deck.

According to the ReSkate README, a crash uploads a minidump and that session’s log to the project’s Backtrace account. The README says the log does not contain your Steam password or login name. You can disable crash reporting in launcher Settings (ADVANCED) or set RESKATE_CRASH_REPORTING=0.
