Install Oxide/uMod first, verify it with oxide.version, then stop your Rust server and copy Oxide.Ext.Discord.dll into the Rust application’s Managed directory—normally RustDedicated_Data/Managed. Start the server again, confirm that the extension loads, and install a separate Discord plugin in oxide/plugins. The extension is only the bridge; the plugin and a private Discord bot token provide the actual chat, relay, or administration feature.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Rust servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
What the Discord extension does
Oxide.Ext.Discord.dll is an Oxide extension for a Rust dedicated server. It lets Oxide plugins make authenticated requests to Discord and receive Discord-related events. It does not, by itself, create a chat relay, moderation system, status command, or in-game user interface. Those behaviors come from a compatible C# plugin such as a Discord chat or Discord core plugin.

Putting the DLL in oxide/plugins will not work: that folder is for C# source plugins, while the extension loader looks for the DLL alongside the Rust server’s managed assemblies.

Requirements before you begin
- A running Rust dedicated server with Oxide/uMod already installed.
- Permission to stop and start the server.
- File access to the Rust installation, either locally or through the host’s FTP client or web file manager.
- The Oxide.Ext.Discord release archive, extracted if it is packaged as a compressed download.
- A compatible Discord feature plugin and a Discord bot token if you want the server to communicate with Discord.
The official uMod installation guidance requires a host that supports Oxide 2.0 or higher. If the server does not have a working Oxide installation, repair that first; the Discord extension cannot load independently of Oxide.
Verify that Oxide/uMod is working
Run oxide.version in the Rust server console. Depending on your setup, the command can also be entered through the server’s administrative chat interface. A version response confirms that Oxide is active and gives you a baseline for diagnosing the extension later.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- If
oxide.versionreturns a version, continue with the Discord extension. - If the command is unknown or produces no Oxide response, install or repair Oxide/uMod before copying any Discord files.
- Record the current Rust and Oxide build information so you can compare it with the extension and plugin requirements after future updates.
Install Oxide.Ext.Discord.dll step by step
- Stop the Rust server. Do this from the local service manager or your host’s control panel. Extensions are generally loaded during server startup, so replacing a DLL while the process is running can leave the old assembly in memory or produce a partial installation.
- Obtain the extension release. Download the current Oxide.Ext.Discord release from the uMod extension page or the project’s release source. If the download is an archive, extract it on your computer or in the host’s file manager. You need the file named exactly
Oxide.Ext.Discord.dll. - Open the Rust installation. Locate the directory containing the Rust dedicated-server executable and its data folders. The usual path to the target is
RustDedicated_Data/Managed. Some server layouts instead expose aRustDedicated/Managedpath; use theManageddirectory belonging to the Rust application, not an unrelated system or plugin folder. - Copy the DLL. Place
Oxide.Ext.Discord.dlldirectly insideManaged. Do not put it inoxide/plugins,oxide/extensions, the server root, or a nested folder. If an older copy exists, replace it only while the server is stopped. - Start the server again. Use the normal start or restart control and wait for the startup sequence to finish. The extension is loaded as Rust initializes its managed assemblies.
- Read the console output. Look for an extension-load message or an explicit error. A missing dependency, damaged archive, wrong path, or incompatible build normally appears here before any Discord plugin can function.
- Install the feature plugin separately. Copy each required Discord
.csplugin intooxide/plugins. Oxide compiles source plugins when they are placed there; the DLL and the C# plugin are different installation steps.
After the plugin compiles, follow that plugin’s configuration instructions. Most Discord plugins will create a configuration or data file after their first load. That is where the bot token and channel settings belong.

Connect a Discord bot safely
Create the bot identity
Create a Discord application and bot in Discord’s developer interface, then obtain its token. The extension’s project documentation calls this credential an API key because it authenticates requests to and from Discord. The exact warning is: “DO NOT SHARE YOUR API KEY!”

Enter the token only in the configuration or plugin that requests it. Do not paste it into a console transcript, crash report, screenshot, public support thread, chat message, or Git repository. Treat a token exposed in any of those places as compromised.
Give the bot only the access it needs
The feature plugin’s documentation determines which Discord permissions and channel settings are required. Configure those permissions in Discord and then place the token in the plugin’s generated configuration. Avoid copying a token into multiple files; keeping one authoritative configuration reduces the chance of an old credential being left behind.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If the token is exposed
Regenerate it in the Discord developer interface, replace the value in the plugin configuration, and restart or reload the plugin according to that plugin’s instructions. A regenerated token invalidates the leaked credential; simply deleting a screenshot or post does not guarantee that nobody retained it.
Install and configure a Discord feature plugin
The extension supplies transport; a plugin supplies behavior. Choose a plugin whose documentation explicitly lists Oxide.Ext.Discord as a dependency and identifies the major extension version it supports. Download its .cs file, place it in oxide/plugins, and watch the Oxide console for compilation output.

- Stop the server if the plugin’s instructions require a cold install, or use the plugin’s documented reload command only when it expressly supports live reload.
- Copy the plugin’s
.csfile intooxide/plugins. - Start the server, or let Oxide compile the plugin if the server is already running and live compilation is supported.
- Open the generated configuration file and enter the bot token, Discord channel identifiers, and other values requested by that plugin.
- Save the configuration and reload the plugin using its documented method.
- Test one narrow function first, such as sending a single relay message, before enabling moderation, logging, or multiple channels.
A plugin can fail even when the DLL is in the right directory if its own dependency, configuration syntax, permissions, or token is wrong. Read the first error in the console rather than repeatedly reinstalling the extension.
Version compatibility and safe upgrades
Treat the extension’s major version and every plugin’s declared dependency as a compatibility gate. uMod warns that plugins made for extension versions 1.0.0 or 2.0.0 are not compatible with version 3.0.0. A successful DLL copy does not make an older plugin compatible.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Before upgrading
- List every installed Discord plugin and note the extension version each one requires.
- Read the release notes or dependency declaration for the new extension.
- Back up the current DLL, plugin files, and configuration files.
- Plan a maintenance window because the server must be stopped for a reliable extension replacement.
Upgrade procedure
- Stop the server.
- Back up the existing
Oxide.Ext.Discord.dlland the Discord plugins’ configuration/data files. - Replace the DLL in the Rust
Manageddirectory with the version required by all enabled plugins. - Start the server and inspect extension-load messages.
- Check each Discord plugin for compilation or dependency errors.
- If a plugin is incompatible, restore the previous DLL and plugin combination or obtain a plugin release that supports the new major version.
Do not mix a version-3 extension with plugins that declare version 1 or 2 support simply because the server starts. The failure may appear later when a plugin initializes or sends its first Discord request.
Remote hosting: finding the files and restart controls
On a remote Rust server, use the host’s FTP client or web file manager to reach the same Rust application directory. Navigate to RustDedicated_Data/Managed, or the host’s equivalent RustDedicated/Managed layout, and upload the DLL there. Upload Discord feature plugins to oxide/plugins.

Confirm these capabilities before choosing or renewing a host:
| Capability | Why it matters | Question to ask the host |
|---|---|---|
| Oxide/uMod support | The extension cannot run on a vanilla-only server | Which current Oxide/uMod build is supported? |
| Managed-directory access | You must upload and replace the DLL | Can customers access the Rust application’s Managed directory? |
oxide/plugins access |
Feature plugins are installed separately from the extension | Can I upload and edit .cs plugins? |
| FTP or web file manager | Provides a way to transfer files without local console access | Which transfer methods and permissions are included? |
| Restart controls | Extensions need a clean startup to load | Can I stop and start the server on demand? |
| Persistent storage | Prevents plugins and configurations disappearing after redeployment | Are uploaded files retained through reinstalls or node moves? |
| Backups and restore | Lets you roll back a bad extension or configuration | Can I restore plugin files and server data independently? |
| Current Rust/Oxide build support | Compatibility changes as the game and mod framework update | How quickly are supported builds updated? |
If you cannot see the Rust Managed directory or cannot stop and start the process, ask the host for file-manager/FTP access and restart permissions before attempting the installation.
Troubleshooting by symptom
oxide.version fails
This is an Oxide/uMod problem, not a Discord-extension problem. Install or repair Oxide/uMod, verify that the server is using the intended Rust installation, and run oxide.version again before proceeding.
The extension is not found
- Confirm the filename is exactly
Oxide.Ext.Discord.dll, including capitalization and the.dllsuffix. - Confirm the file is directly inside the Rust application’s
Manageddirectory. - Make sure the archive was extracted; uploading a compressed archive does not install the DLL.
- Check that you edited the active server instance rather than a backup, staging, or second Rust installation.
- Stop and start the server after correcting the path.
The DLL is present but fails during startup
Read the first extension-loading error in the console. Common causes are a damaged download, a missing dependency, a Rust/Oxide build mismatch, or a major-version combination that the installed plugins do not support. Restore the last known-good DLL from your backup if the server becomes unstable.

- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.

Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
The Discord plugin fails after an upgrade
Compare the plugin’s declared Discord extension major version with the installed DLL. In particular, plugins built for 1.0.0 or 2.0.0 should not be expected to work with 3.0.0. Downgrade the extension or update the plugin as a matched set.

Discord authentication fails
Re-enter the bot token carefully in the plugin’s configuration. If the token was ever disclosed, regenerate it first. Check that the plugin is reading the configuration file you edited and that the bot has the Discord permissions required by that plugin.
Messages or commands do nothing
Separate the layers: verify that the extension loads, then verify that the C# plugin compiles, then verify its token and channel configuration. A loaded DLL without a feature plugin produces no user-facing Discord behavior.
You cannot access a remote server’s files
Ask the host for FTP or web file-manager access to the Rust installation and for permission to stop and start the server. Without both file access and restart control, you cannot reliably replace an Oxide extension.
Operational checklist
- Run
oxide.versionafter Rust or Oxide updates. - Keep the extension DLL and every Discord plugin on a documented, compatible major-version combination.
- Back up the DLL, plugin source files, and configuration/data files before upgrades.
- Keep the bot token out of logs, screenshots, support posts, and source control.
- Inspect startup and plugin compilation output after every change.
- Test one Discord function after maintenance before enabling additional features.
- Retain a rollback copy of the previous working extension and configuration.
Installation summary
The reliable sequence is: confirm Oxide with oxide.version; stop the server; place Oxide.Ext.Discord.dll in the Rust application’s Managed directory; start the server and inspect the console; install a compatible Discord .cs plugin in oxide/plugins; configure a private bot token; and test the plugin. Keeping the extension, plugin, token, and restart process as separate layers makes errors easier to identify and upgrades safer.
