What an Iztek installation actually contains
A DayZ custom map is not installed by adding a single Workshop item. The server needs three related pieces: the map mod itself, the framework mods that Iztek depends on, and a mission folder that tells the server which terrain and gameplay files to load. The mission files are a separate download from the map mod.

The most important relationship is between the mission directory and the configuration template. DayZ will not infer that relationship from the Workshop item name. It reads the value in serverDZ.cfg, then looks for a folder with exactly that name below mpmissions.
Before you change the server
Confirm access and downtime
You need access to your host’s Workshop controls and to the server files. On a managed host this may be a browser file manager; on a self-managed machine it is usually SFTP or direct filesystem access. Stop the server before replacing mission files or editing configuration. A running process can keep old files open, overwrite changes during a restart, or leave you unsure which version actually loaded.

Plan one restart after all three mods and the mission files are in place. Some control panels offer an automatic restart after every Workshop installation. Disable that option while installing the batch, then restart once after the final configuration change.
Check the current map instructions
Dependency names, repository layouts, and host-panel labels can change. Before deployment, check the live Iztek Workshop description, the ItsZarge/IztekMissionFiles repository, and the current documentation for your host. No universal Iztek version matrix or host-compatibility guarantee has been established, so do not assume that an older installation guide still describes the current file layout.
Managed-panel installation: the exact Iztek procedure
1. Stop or prepare the server
If your panel has a Stop button, use it before editing files. If the panel lets you queue Workshop changes while the server is running, still wait until the server is stopped before uploading or replacing the mission directory. Record the existing mission setting if you may need to roll back.
2. Install the three Workshop modifications
- Open the DayZ hosting control panel and select the Workshop tab.
- Install CF.
- Install Dabs Framework.
- Install Iztek.
Keep all three enabled in the panel or launch configuration. If the panel proposes an automatic restart after each installation, turn that behavior off until the final step. Installing the items in one batch avoids three separate boot cycles and makes it easier to tell whether the eventual startup error is related to the map setup rather than an intermediate, incomplete state.
3. Edit the mission template
- Open the server files and locate
serverDZ.cfg. - Find the
class Missionssection. - Set the map template to exactly
template="dayzOffline.Iztek". - Save the file without changing the spelling, capitalization, punctuation, or quotation marks.
The setting should be inside class Missions, not in a separate startup note or a comment. A typical relevant line is:

Use the map’s linked GitHub repository, ItsZarge/IztekMissionFiles. Download the archive to your computer and extract it locally. Do not upload the compressed archive and assume DayZ will unpack it; the server needs the actual mission directory and its files.
5. Upload the mission folder
- Open the server’s
mpmissionsdirectory. - Upload the extracted
empty.Iztekfolder. - After the transfer completes, rename that folder to
dayzOffline.Iztek.
Check the resulting path before restarting:
mpmissions/dayzOffline.IztekMake sure you did not create an extra nesting level such as mpmissions/IztekMissionFiles/empty.Iztek or mpmissions/dayzOffline.Iztek/empty.Iztek. The mission files must be directly inside the folder whose name matches the template.
6. Restart and wait for a complete boot
Save the configuration, start the server, and allow it to finish loading before testing. The first boot can take longer while Workshop content is downloaded or indexed. Check the panel’s status and startup log rather than connecting immediately after pressing Start.
Directory and configuration checks
When the upload is complete, the two names below must be identical:

DayZ treats these as literal strings. A difference in case, a missing character, an extra space, or a different prefix points the server at a directory that does not exist. This is why a map can appear installed in the Workshop panel yet fail to load at startup.

Installing Iztek on a self-managed or limited panel
The same file relationship applies when you do not have a one-click Workshop installer, but the order of operations changes slightly. You need a way to download the Workshop mod, pass its identifier to the server, and transfer files over SFTP or another file-management method.
Use the startup Additional Mods field when available
Some panels provide a startup field named Additional Mods. Enter the Iztek Workshop ID there, using the format required by that panel. Start the server once so it can download the map files and create or expose its mission structure. Then stop the server before editing serverDZ.cfg and uploading the repository mission files.
After stopping, set template="dayzOffline.Iztek" under class Missions, place the renamed mission folder in mpmissions, and start the server again. The one-time startup is a download-and-initialization step; it does not replace the manual mission-file upload.
Use SFTP when the web file manager cannot upload folders
If the panel cannot transfer a directory recursively, connect with an SFTP client such as WinSCP or FileZilla. Extract the repository on your computer first, then transfer the complete empty.Iztek directory and rename it on the server. Verify that hidden files and nested subdirectories were included. A transfer that copies only visible top-level files can leave the mission incomplete even though the folder name looks correct.
Copy supplied key files
General DayZ custom-map guidance calls for copying any map-supplied .bikey files into the server’s keys directory. Iztek’s current repository or Workshop description should be the authority on whether such files are included. Do not invent a key file if none is supplied; copy every key that the map package actually provides.

Managed panel versus self-managed installation
Choose the route that matches the access you have, not a different route merely because its terminology is familiar.

How to verify a successful boot
- Confirm the panel shows CF, Dabs Framework, and Iztek as installed and enabled.
- Confirm the mission path is exactly
mpmissions/dayzOffline.Iztek. - Open
serverDZ.cfgand verify the template line appears insideclass Missions. - Check that the mission directory contains the extracted files, not just the downloaded archive.
- Review the startup log for dependency, path, or mission-loading errors.
- Only after the server reaches a ready state, connect and confirm that the Iztek terrain loads rather than the previous map.
If the server reaches a ready state but clients cannot join, read the log before changing unrelated mods. A successful process start does not prove that every map file or key was transferred correctly.

The template and folder names do not match
This is the most common failure. Compare the values character by character, including uppercase letters and periods. The configuration must say template="dayzOffline.Iztek", and the directory must be mpmissions/dayzOffline.Iztek. Correct either side, save the file, and restart with the server stopped during the edit.
The mission files are missing or nested incorrectly
Installing the Workshop item does not supply the complete mission folder. Reopen the extracted repository and confirm that all files were uploaded. If your file manager shows mpmissions/dayzOffline.Iztek/empty.Iztek, move the inner contents up one level or re-upload the folder correctly. The template folder itself must contain the mission files.
A required dependency is absent
Confirm that CF and Dabs Framework are installed and enabled alongside Iztek. A map can be present in the Workshop list while a dependency is disabled, removed from the launch configuration, or installed under an incorrect mod entry. The startup log normally identifies dependency failures more precisely than the panel’s summary screen.

The map files were never downloaded
On panels that use an Additional Mods field, start the server once to trigger the Workshop download, then stop it and complete the mission configuration. If the panel shows an empty mod directory or a download error, resolve that installation problem before troubleshooting the mission template.
A key file is missing
If the map package supplies one or more .bikey files, copy them to keys. A missing key can prevent the server or clients from accepting the mod even when the mission path is correct. Use the current map package to determine which keys belong there.
The upload was incomplete
Large recursive transfers can finish with skipped files, especially through browser file managers. Compare the local extracted folder with the remote folder, inspect the transfer queue for failures, and re-upload missing content while the server is stopped. Do not rely solely on the presence of the outer directory.
An old mission or configuration is being used
Stop the server, save the edited serverDZ.cfg, and inspect the active installation directory rather than a similarly named backup or staging directory. Some hosts expose multiple file areas; editing one while the server starts from another produces the same symptom as a bad template.
The log reports an unfamiliar error
Capture the first dependency or path error in the startup log and fix that before changing other mods. Reinstalling unrelated Workshop items can add new variables and make the original cause harder to see. If the current Workshop description or mission repository has changed, compare its instructions with your server’s file layout before trying an older workaround.

Document the working state
Keep a short record of the exact mission folder name, the template line, enabled dependencies, and the repository revision you downloaded. This makes rollback and migration easier without changing the values that are known to work.
Update in a controlled order
- Stop the server and save a copy of the working mission folder and
serverDZ.cfg. - Read the current Iztek Workshop description and mission-file instructions for changed dependencies or paths.
- Update the map and its required frameworks through the host’s supported method.
- Recheck the mission directory and template string before starting.
- Start once, inspect the log, and only then allow normal players to reconnect.
There is no universal dependency-version table for Iztek, so treat the live map instructions and your host’s current controls as authoritative when they differ from an older guide.
Final deployment checklist
- The server was stopped before file replacement and configuration edits.
- CF, Dabs Framework, and Iztek are installed and enabled.
- The complete mission archive was extracted locally.

Following that order gives DayZ the mod content, its dependencies, and the mission path it needs. Most failed Iztek launches are resolved by correcting one of those three areas rather than by changing unrelated server settings.
