“Integrate Discord with a live stream” can mean three different things: show Discord chat or voice activity in an OBS scene, include the sound of a Discord call in your stream mix, or connect a Twitch or YouTube creator account to a Discord server so subscribers or members receive roles. The steps below cover the documented OBS overlay and account integrations. Discord’s Streamkit instructions cover visual widgets, not routing call audio into OBS.
Choose the Discord integration you need
| What you want | Use | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Show Discord chat, voice activity, or status on-screen | Discord Streamkit Overlay plus an OBS Browser Source | Displays a visual widget in your scene. It does not, by itself, add call audio to OBS. |
| Give Twitch subscribers access to a Discord server or channels | Discord’s Twitch server integration | Syncs subscriber status to managed Discord roles. Discord documents this for Twitch Partners and Affiliates. |
| Give YouTube channel members access to a Discord server or channels | Discord’s YouTube server integration | Syncs membership status to managed Discord roles. Discord requires a YouTube Partner whose channel has memberships enabled. |
| Hear a Discord voice call in the live stream | A separate audio-routing setup | Not covered by Discord’s Streamkit overlay instructions; the visual voice widget is not an audio mixer. |
How to show Discord chat or voice activity in OBS
Use Discord’s Streamkit Overlay when you want viewers to see a Status, Chat, or Voice widget in an OBS scene. Discord’s support article says the widgets can be used together and each has its own installation code. Menu wording may have changed since that article was published in 2021, so use the current Streamkit page as the reference for its available options and displayed dimensions.
- Open Discord’s Streamkit Overlay page and choose the OBS overlay. Authorize it in Discord. Discord says authorization lets the overlay perform an action in the client; for example, it may generate an invite for the Status widget if you choose that feature. Review or revoke this access under User Settings > Connections > Authorized Apps.
- Select a server and choose Status, Chat, or Voice. Customize the widget options and check the preview. Repeat for any other widget you want to display.
- Copy the widget’s installation link. Each widget has a separate code, so copy the link for each one you plan to add.
- Add it to OBS. In OBS Studio, add a Browser Source, paste the Streamkit link, and set the source width and height to the dimensions shown by the Streamkit page.
- Arrange and verify the source in the OBS preview. Confirm that the widget is readable, positioned correctly, and showing only the information you intend to display before going live.
What the Voice widget does—and does not do
The Voice widget is a visual overlay. It can show voice-channel activity, but adding it as a Browser Source does not route the people in the call into your stream’s audio mix. Discord’s Streamkit instructions do not explain how to capture or route call audio. Treat call audio as a separate setup task and consult instructions specific to your operating system and audio-routing software before changing your OBS mix.
How to connect Twitch subscribers to a Discord server
Discord documents its Twitch subscriber-role integration for Twitch Partners and Affiliates. Linking a Twitch account to Discord is not enough on its own: you must also enable the server integration. Discord says the integration is unavailable if the channel has no subscription option.

- Connect your Twitch account in Discord. Open User Settings > Connections and connect Twitch.
- Enable the server integration. Open the Discord server, go to Server Settings > Integrations, select Twitch, and follow the prompts.
- Set access and role permissions. The integration creates managed Twitch Subscriber and tier roles. Admins can rename these roles and change their permissions. Use those roles to control access to the whole server or selected channels.
- Choose how to handle ended subscriptions. Discord provides a grace-period setting before a former subscriber loses the role or is removed from the server. The integration manages role membership, so members cannot be manually added to or deleted from these managed roles.
- Check synchronization. Subscriber lists sync automatically, and admins can also trigger a manual sync.
How to sync YouTube channel members to a Discord server
Discord’s YouTube membership integration requires a YouTube Partner with channel memberships enabled. Connecting YouTube to your personal Discord account and enabling the integration for the server are separate steps.
- Connect YouTube in Discord. Open User Settings > Connections and connect the YouTube account associated with the eligible channel.
- Enable the channel for your server. Open the server’s Server Settings > Integrations, select YouTube, and enable the channel.
- Choose where members get access. Configure whether the membership role grants access to the whole server or to selected channels.
- Review the managed roles and end-of-membership behavior. Discord creates YouTube Member and tier roles. Admins can change their names, permissions, and colors, then choose a grace period and whether to remove an expired member’s role or kick the user. Membership assignment itself is managed by the integration.
- Check synchronization. Memberships normally sync automatically; Discord also provides a manual sync option.
Protect private information before going live
Before showing the Discord client or Discord information in a scene, review Streamer Mode. Discord describes it as a quick way to hide sensitive or personal information while streaming. Its documented controls include hiding Discord tags, email addresses, stream connections, and server invite links, as well as disabling desktop notifications and channel-join or notification sounds. The documentation was published in 2021, so rely on the controls available in your current client rather than expecting every screen or label to match older screenshots.

Troubleshooting Discord and OBS integration
The Streamkit widget does not appear in OBS
- Check that you pasted the widget’s installation link into a Browser Source, not a different source type.
- Confirm the source dimensions match those displayed on the Streamkit page and that the source is visible in the current scene.
- If you want multiple widgets, add each with its own installation link; they are separate sources.
The Voice widget appears, but viewers cannot hear the call
The widget provides a visual overlay, not call-audio routing. Configure Discord call audio separately for your operating system and OBS setup; do not assume that adding a Streamkit source changes the audio mix.
Twitch or YouTube roles are missing or out of date
- Confirm the creator account is connected under User Settings > Connections and that the integration is enabled under the server’s Server Settings > Integrations.
- Check eligibility: Twitch’s documented integration requires Partner or Affiliate status and a channel subscription option; YouTube’s requires Partner status and channel memberships enabled.
- Allow for automatic synchronization or use the manual sync option in the integration settings.
- Remember that subscriber and member roles are managed by the integration; Discord does not allow members to be manually assigned to or removed from these managed roles.
Personal information or notifications appear on stream
Review Streamer Mode settings and the content visible in the captured scene. Check the notification and sound controls as well as the options for hiding personal information and invite links.
