After defeating Zoh Shia, complete Optional Quests or Field Investigations to earn Hunter Rank (HR) points and advance the endgame. If Chapter 5-1, “Omens,” gives you the objective “Investigate the regions and raise your HR” while your displayed HR is already capped, keep earning points: the objective can progress without the number visibly increasing.
How to investigate regions and earn HR
- Open the world map and check an area’s monster list. The PlayStation endgame guide says the map shows which monsters are roaming in each region. Select a monster to start a hunt, or save it as an investigation for later.
- Choose an Optional Quest or Field Investigation. These are the activities identified for earning HR in the post-Zoh Shia endgame. For a saved investigation, speak with Alma to access it. Saved hunts can be repeated up to three times; check the listed guaranteed drops when deciding which one to use.
- Complete the hunt and continue earning HR points. Key campaign quests raise the HR ceiling and unlock harder Optional Quests and Field Investigations, so follow the active mission prompts as they open up.
What if HR is capped during Chapter 5-1 “Omens”?
The wording can make it sound as if the displayed HR must go up. In a March 2025 report, Icy Veins reported Capcom’s clarification: for this cap case, earning enough HR points can advance the objective even if your visible rank stays the same.

Keep completing Optional Quests; Side Missions are also reported to award HR points. Icy Veins gives about eight Optional Quests as an estimate, not a guaranteed count or exact requirement. The cited sources do not establish the point threshold. If several quests do not move the objective, check the current in-game prompts and Capcom support for guidance specific to your game version.
Which activity should you choose?
Use the option that suits the hunts available to you. Optional Quests provide a direct way to keep progressing, while a saved Field Investigation lets you repeat a selected hunt and review its guaranteed-drop information. The available guidance does not compare how quickly either activity awards HR points.
