Xbox Cloud Gaming’s shareable multiplayer invite links let eligible players send friends a direct route into a supported game session. Microsoft announced the feature on February 25, 2025; it is an existing feature, not a new 2026 rollout. The host needs Game Pass Ultimate, and Microsoft’s announcement describes inviting other Ultimate members.
What the invite link does—and what it does not do
Instead of relying only on the Xbox friends list or a game’s usual invite flow, the host can create a link from the session’s invite menu and send it in a message or group chat. It is designed to help friends join a supported multiplayer cloud-gaming session across devices.
The link does not grant free cloud-gaming access, turn a single-player game into multiplayer, or override a game’s own joining rules. The game must support multiplayer and allow the invited player to enter that session. Microsoft announced the feature for Xbox Cloud Gaming in browsers and on supported TVs. Microsoft’s February 2025 announcement describes the intended participants as Game Pass Ultimate members.
Check these requirements first
- Host subscription: The host must be a Game Pass Ultimate member using Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft’s announcement also describes invitees as Ultimate members; do not assume a free Xbox account or the host’s subscription grants another person cloud access.
- Supported access: The feature is scoped to browser play and supported TVs. Xbox currently lists Edge, Chrome, and Safari as browser examples, and select LG, Samsung, VIDAA OS TVs and Amazon Fire TV devices. Availability depends on country, model, operating system, and Microsoft’s current compatibility list; check the Xbox Cloud Gaming page.
- Eligible game and session: The game must support multiplayer and the relevant join flow. The session also needs an open player slot and must still be active.
- Xbox account: Invitees need to sign in with an Xbox profile. Make sure the intended Microsoft account is selected when the link opens.
Create and share an invite link
- Start a supported multiplayer game through Xbox Cloud Gaming in a browser or on a supported TV.
- Open the Xbox Guide or the game’s invite menu while in the session.
- Choose the “Anyone” tab in the invite menu.
- Create or copy the invitation link, then send it directly to friends or share it in a group chat.
Menu placement or wording may vary. Microsoft announced a redesigned Cloud Gaming web experience as a public preview in January 2026, where some functions could look different or be temporarily unavailable. See Microsoft’s preview announcement if the instructions do not match the current interface.

Join from a browser or phone
- Open the invitation link in a supported browser. On a phone, use its browser rather than assuming every Xbox app or TV interface handles the link the same way.
- Sign in with the Xbox profile that has the required access.
- Select “Play with Ultimate” when prompted, then follow any game-specific account or multiplayer prompts.
Opening the link does not necessarily launch the game immediately: sign-in, subscription eligibility, device support, and the game’s own requirements can affect what happens next.
Join on a TV with a short code
If the TV cannot conveniently open the full URL, use another device to start the join flow and enter its code on the TV:

Keep the link private
Anyone who receives a session link may be able to attempt to join, subject to the account, game, and session requirements. Treat it like an access token: send it only to the people you intend to invite, and avoid posting it publicly unless the session is meant to be open. Android Headlines reported that the link owner may be able to revoke a link, but Microsoft’s announcement does not document a specific revocation control. If unwanted players appear, leave or close the lobby, or look in the invite/session menu for a revoke or disable option if available.
Troubleshoot common invite problems
The link opens a subscription page
First check that the invitee is signed into the intended account and has eligible cloud-gaming access. Sign out, reopen the link in a supported browser, and sign in again. Region availability, a game-specific entitlement, an invalid or revoked link, or an ended session may also explain the prompt; it is not necessarily a platform bug.

The “Anyone” tab is missing
Confirm that the game is in a multiplayer-capable state and that the host is playing through the browser or supported-TV cloud workflow. Then exit and relaunch the cloud session, open the Xbox Guide from inside the stream, enter a multiplayer lobby, and check the invite menu again. If the web interface is in preview, its layout or feature availability may differ; Microsoft’s January 2026 preview notice cautions that some functions may be different or temporarily unavailable.
The TV cannot open the link
Use the alternate-device short-code steps above: open the URL on a phone or PC, select “Join on a different device,” then enter the code through the TV’s Xbox Guide. Typing a long URL with a TV remote is not required by Microsoft’s documented TV flow.

The friend joins but cannot enter the game
Check whether the title allows players to join an active session, whether the lobby is full, whether both players have access to the required edition, and whether cross-play or cross-network play is enabled. Some games require using their own invite system after the cloud session is joined. Xbox’s multiplayer documentation explains that titles control invite behavior and joining rules.
The cloud stream freezes while accepting an invite
Community reports describe freezes in some invite-acceptance situations, but that is anecdotal and does not establish a platform-wide defect. Try opening the link manually instead of tapping an in-stream notification, restart the cloud session, switch to a supported browser, update the browser or Xbox app, and test another game to see whether the issue is title-specific. See the community report with that limitation in mind.

When a link is more useful than a regular invite
A shareable link is especially convenient when friends are not easy to find in the Xbox friends list, are coordinating in a separate messaging app, or are joining from a mix of browsers and TVs. A conventional Xbox or in-game invite can still suit a private, recurring group or a console-based session better. The link changes how players get to the session; it does not replace a game’s multiplayer rules or make the session universally accessible.
