On current Palworld 1.0.x servers, Xbox and PlayStation 5 players join a dedicated server through the in-game Community Servers list. The administrator must publish the dedicated server with -publiclobby and allow both platforms in CrossplayPlatforms. You then search the administrator’s exact server name and enter its password, if one is set.

The short answer
Xbox and PlayStation 5 do not use the normal direct-connection route described for PC dedicated servers. The console path is:

- Search for the exact server name provided by the administrator.
- Select the listing and enter the server password if prompted.
This works only when the dedicated server is registered as a community server. The owner normally does that by starting the server with -publiclobby. The server configuration must also include the console platforms in CrossplayPlatforms; the documented default is (Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac).
Which Palworld versions can play together?
The official server overview lists Steam, Xbox/Microsoft Store Windows PC, macOS and PlayStation 5 as supported cross-play platforms. Xbox and PS5 access requires a community server rather than a private dedicated server that is absent from the in-game list.

Whether a particular listing is visible is controlled by the server’s publication and platform settings, not by the console player changing a hidden connection mode. If either Xbox or PS5 is removed from the allowed list, players on that platform can be unable to connect.
What to check before you join

ServerName, including spaces, punctuation and capitalization where relevant to the search. - The password supplied by the administrator, if the server uses one.
- Confirmation that the server is currently running as a community server.
- Confirmation that your platform is included in
CrossplayPlatforms. - Confirmation that your game and the server are on compatible current versions.
A server can be online on the owner’s machine and still not appear in your list if it was not started with the community-server argument or if your platform was excluded. The owner should make these checks before asking console players to keep refreshing the list.
How to join on Xbox
Open the correct multiplayer screen
- Launch Palworld on Xbox.
- From the title screen, choose the multiplayer join option.
- Select Community Servers rather than looking for a direct IP-entry field.
Find the administrator’s listing
- Use the search field in the Community Servers screen.
- Enter the server name exactly as the administrator supplied it.
- Choose the matching listing from the results.
- Enter the server password when the game requests it.
The official connection instructions describe the community-list flow. They do not describe direct IP entry as the console connection path, so an Xbox player should not expect to paste a dedicated-server address into the Xbox interface.
How to join on PlayStation 5
Use Community Servers from the title screen
- Launch Palworld on PS5.
- Choose the multiplayer join option.
- Open Community Servers.
Search and authenticate
- Search for the exact
ServerNamegiven by the administrator. - Select the correct listing.
- Type the server password if one is configured.
PS5 follows the same discovery route as Xbox. The important difference is on the server side: the allowed-platform value must contain PS5. A listing intended only for Steam or another platform will not become joinable on PS5 simply because the server name is visible to someone else.

Why consoles need a Community Server
A community server is a dedicated server registered in Palworld’s in-game server list. The official server guide states that players joining from the Xbox or PS5 versions need the server deployed as a community server. That registration is what makes the server searchable from the console multiplayer screen.

Server-owner setup for Xbox and PS5 access
Start the server with the community argument
Add -publiclobby to the dedicated-server startup command. The documented examples are:
PalServer.exe -publiclobbyon Windows, and:
./PalServer.sh -publiclobbyon Linux. The argument means “Setup server as a community server.” If the server is launched through a control panel or service wrapper, the same argument must be placed in that service’s startup-arguments field rather than typed only once in an unrelated terminal.
Allow both console platforms
In the server configuration, keep the default platform list or use another value that explicitly includes both consoles:

CrossplayPlatforms=(Steam,Xbox,PS5,Mac)The configuration reference describes this setting as the platforms allowed to connect. An administrator who changes it to a narrower list must retain Xbox for Xbox players and PS5 for PS5 players. The names are platform identifiers, not display labels such as “Xbox Series” or “PlayStation.”
Give the server a searchable name
Set a clear ServerName and tell players the exact spelling. A short, distinctive name is easier to locate than a generic label shared by many listings. The name players search is the configured server name, not necessarily the machine name or the hosting account name.
Protect access with a password when needed
Set ServerPassword when the server should be restricted. Give the password to intended players through a private channel and make sure they enter it exactly. A listing can be visible while still refusing entry because the supplied password is wrong.
Apply changes and publish the listing
- Stop the dedicated server cleanly.
- Update the startup arguments so
-publiclobbyis present. - Update the configuration so
CrossplayPlatformsincludes the platforms you intend to support. - Check
ServerNameand, if required,ServerPassword. - Start the server again.
- Wait for the community listing to appear before asking players to search.
Changing a configuration file or a launcher argument while the old process is still running does not change that process’s active settings. A restart is required after these edits.

Troubleshooting: the server does not appear
1. Confirm that the process is running
Ask the administrator to verify that the dedicated server process is actually running and has not stopped during startup. A console player cannot find a listing for a server that is offline.

2. Confirm -publiclobby is active
Check the command or service configuration used for the current launch, not an old shortcut. The Windows form is PalServer.exe -publiclobby; the Linux form is ./PalServer.sh -publiclobby. Restart after correcting it, then allow the service to register in Community Servers.
3. Check the allowed-platform list
Inspect CrossplayPlatforms. For both consoles, the value must contain Xbox and PS5. If the administrator has restricted the list to a subset such as Steam only, Xbox and PS5 players will be excluded even though the server is otherwise healthy.
4. Search the exact configured name
Ask for the precise ServerName and search again. Remove accidental extra spaces, check punctuation and distinguish similarly named listings. Searching for the owner’s nickname, IP address or hosting-provider label will not necessarily find the configured server name.
5. Check game and server versions
Confirm that the player and server are on compatible current versions. A listing problem caused by an update will not be fixed by repeatedly entering an old password or changing the search text.
6. Verify the password
If the listing appears but the connection is rejected after selection, ask the administrator to confirm whether ServerPassword is set and to send the current value. Password entry is separate from discovery: seeing a listing does not prove that the password is correct.

7. Restart after every relevant correction
After changing the startup argument, platform list, server name or password, restart the dedicated server and wait for the refreshed listing. Test from the console only after the new process is running.

A mixed group uses one community-server listing. The administrator’s platform list determines which members can connect; each player still searches the same server name from that platform’s multiplayer screen. For an Xbox-and-PS5 group, the minimum relevant entries are Xbox and PS5. If Steam or macOS players are also expected, retain their identifiers as well.
Cross-play permission does not transfer a single-player world into a persistent dedicated server. Players must select the published community listing, and everyone needs the same current server version and any required password.

The official documentation does not describe direct IP entry as the Xbox or PS5 route. For those platforms, publication in the in-game list is the practical distinction that matters.
Where the server can run
The official overview says a dedicated server can run on a machine supplied by the owner or through a virtual private server (VPS) service. A VPS is an optional hosting method for keeping a server available; it is not required for a console player to join one. Hosting cost, machine specifications and provider availability depend on the chosen service and are not fixed by the Community Servers feature.

Administrator handoff checklist
Before sending players an invitation, provide one message containing:
- The exact
ServerName. - Whether the server is currently online.
- Confirmation that it was started with
-publiclobby. - The platforms enabled in
CrossplayPlatforms, includingXboxandPS5when both are wanted. - The current password, if
ServerPasswordis configured. - A note to use Community Servers from the Palworld title screen.
This information separates a discovery problem from an authentication problem. Players can then report whether they cannot see the listing, can see it but cannot select it, or can select it but fail password verification.
