Why a 24/7 livestream may not produce a complete archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is an archive-capture risk, not a promise that a longer stream will become a particular file size or that YouTube will automatically remove old replays. A single uninterrupted day-long broadcast therefore should not be treated as a dependable complete replay. Plan shorter sessions if you want dependable replays
If you want each broadcast to have a chance to appear as an archive under YouTube’s stated guidance, end the stream before it reaches 12 hours and start a new session. This keeps each session below the documented threshold; it is a practical precaution, not a guarantee that every stream will archive successfully. Decide in advance how you will handle the transition so the music broadcast can continue while one session ends and the next begins.
For a channel that needs to remain live around the clock, separate the continuous broadcast from the replay plan: keep the live output running in shorter sessions, then review those sessions individually in Studio. Do not assume that one 24/7 broadcast will yield a complete replay, or that YouTube offers an age-based automatic deletion setting. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish bulk deletion controls or automatic archive retention by age.

Choose what to do with each existing archive
In YouTube Studio, open Content → Live to find livestream archives. Open an archive’s details to change its visibility, or use More → Delete to remove it. Check the selected privacy setting and save when changing visibility. Deletion is permanent, so preserve a copy first if there is any chance you will need the recording later. YouTube’s archive guidance documents these controls.
- Keep it public when viewers should still be able to find and watch the session.
- Change visibility when you want to retain the YouTube replay but no longer make it publicly available in the same way.
- Delete it only when you no longer need the online copy and have saved any backup you want to keep.
YouTube also describes organizing replays and highlights into playlists; a playlist can help viewers navigate retained sessions, but it does not reduce the storage occupied by an archive. See YouTube Help: Promote your live stream.

Keep a local backup before removing a replay
YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. That gives you a separate copy to retain before deleting a replay from YouTube. While recording, check that the local file exists, opens correctly, and continues to grow in size; YouTube’s streaming tips call out local archive integrity and file-growth checks.
A local drive is an optional place to keep that backup, not a way to reduce the size of an archive stored by YouTube. Changing visibility or deleting a replay affects the online copy’s availability; it does not compress the source recording. YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe a drive model, storage capacity, or paid backup service.

Check bandwidth when recording locally
YouTube recommends upload bandwidth headroom of 20% above the total stream bitrate, including any primary and backup streams. This is upload capacity guidance for the stream, not a storage-per-hour estimate. The cited sources do not specify a target bitrate for music-only streams or a general archive size per hour, so estimate local storage from the actual recording bitrate and how long you plan to retain files rather than assuming a fixed amount.
