If you mean listening to a YouTube playlist yourself, use YouTube’s Repeat control. If you mean keeping a public 24/7 livestream running, that button is not enough: the media source feeding your encoder must loop, and the encoder must keep sending audio and video to YouTube.
First, identify which kind of playback you mean
Repeating a playlist for personal listening
On desktop, open a video in the playlist, expand the playlist, then click Loop in the playlist box. On a TV or game console, select Repeat until the control shows Playlist. This repeats playback for you; it does not operate a broadcast encoder. See YouTube’s playlist-repeat instructions.
Keeping a public livestream on air
A livestream is an encoder workflow. The encoder sends a source feed to YouTube using YouTube’s server URL and stream key. If that encoder stops sending content, the stream ends. YouTube’s setup guidance describes connecting an encoder; it does not say that the viewer-side playlist Repeat control loops an encoder’s broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
How to make a playlist feed a livestream continuously
- Choose your broadcast workflow. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. A computer running source software and an encoder can work for a creator-controlled setup; dedicated hardware is an option for higher-production events, not a requirement for every creator. YouTube’s general guidance recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. See YouTube’s live encoder guidance.
- Set the media source to repeat. Configure the playlist or automation in the source software to loop when it reaches the end. The exact control depends on that software; YouTube’s cited setup instructions do not define a universal loop setting for third-party players or encoders.
- Test the end-of-playlist transition. Run a private or unlisted test and watch what happens when the final item ends. Confirm that the next item starts and that the encoder continues sending a usable feed. Do not assume the loop works merely because the playlist plays normally on your desktop.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube. In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the corresponding encoder fields, then check the preview before going live. Treat the stream key like a credential: it is what lets the encoder send the feed to your channel. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup steps.
- Check upload capacity. Compare your available upload bandwidth with the complete outgoing stream bitrate, and leave at least 20% headroom above the total bitrate, as YouTube recommends. A connection disruption can break a stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Monitor the whole chain. Check the source software, encoder, network, and the audio and video in the live preview. YouTube recommends continuous audio/video quality monitoring; a playlist that has frozen or gone silent can leave a technically connected stream in a bad state.
- Test recovery and failover if you use them. YouTube describes testing a backup encoder by stopping the primary and confirming playback rolls over to the backup. Verify that this handoff works before depending on it in a real broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Choose a setup based on what can fail
| Approach | What it is for | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube playlist Repeat | Personal playback in YouTube | Repeat is set for the playlist; it does not feed a public encoder broadcast. |
| Computer, source software, and software encoder | A creator-controlled livestream using a computer | The source loops at the end, the encoder stays connected, and the computer and network remain available. |
| Hardware encoder | A dedicated encoding setup, which may suit higher-production events | The media source or automation still loops; the encoder alone does not make a playlist repeat. |
| StreamNeo | A cloud service for keeping an uploaded-video YouTube stream running | Upload your video or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops it in the cloud, so your computer does not need to stay on. |
For software such as OBS, confirm its current source and repeat controls in that software’s documentation; YouTube lists OBS among encoders that support HLS output. HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments. See YouTube’s HLS guidance.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What to expect from long streams and replays
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is not a statement that every stream is automatically ended at 12 hours. Separately, YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Check current stream settings and behavior before promising viewers a full replay or rewind. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Troubleshooting when the stream stops or goes silent
- The stream ends as the playlist finishes: the source likely stopped supplying content. Set repeat or automation in the source software, then test the transition in a private or unlisted stream.
- YouTube does not show a live preview: check that the encoder is using the correct server URL and stream key, and that it is actively sending a feed. If needed, refresh or replace the key through YouTube’s current Live Control Room workflow.
- Playback stutters or disconnects: check the full outgoing bitrate against available upload bandwidth and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Also inspect whether other network activity is consuming upload capacity.
- The stream stays connected but audio or video freezes: inspect the source playlist and player as well as the encoder. A live connection cannot fix a source that has stopped advancing.
- A backup does not take over: test the failover path deliberately and verify that the player rolls to the backup feed, as YouTube recommends, before relying on it.
- A long stream has no expected rewind or archive: check the duration caveats and current YouTube controls; archival and DVR behavior differ, especially around streams longer than 12 hours.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for uploaded videos, not a camera broadcast. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Every slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. The same product is available on daily, weekly, six-month, and yearly billing; the plan length changes, not the included features. Each slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots, plus 24/7 looping, playlists, and StreamNeo team support. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
