To keep a YouTube stream running through Restream while your computer is off, upload a prerecorded video or build a playlist in Restream, then schedule it as a prerecorded livestream event. Restream stores and broadcasts the media from its service, so your computer does not need to stay online. An OBS or other encoder-based RTMP stream is different: the computer sending that live feed must be running.
Schedule a prerecorded YouTube livestream in Restream
- Open the prerecorded workflow. In Restream, choose New Stream → Pre-recorded livestream → Video. Choose Playlist instead if you want to play several files in sequence.
- Select or upload your media. Choose an existing Restream upload or upload a source video. For a playlist, arrange the files in the intended order and preview the assembled stream before scheduling.
- Enter the event details. Add the title, description, date, and time, then select the connected YouTube channel. Restream also offers an option to create an event announcement post on YouTube during event creation.
- Check eligibility and file requirements. Confirm that YouTube live streaming is enabled for your channel and that the media meets Restream’s format requirements.
- Create the event. Restream says a scheduled prerecorded event starts automatically even when you are offline. You can monitor the event and chat through Restream while it is live, but monitoring is optional.
Choose prerecorded playback or an encoder stream
Prerecorded video or playlist: computer can be off
This is the right Restream workflow when you want an unattended scheduled broadcast of media you have already recorded. Restream plays uploaded files from its service. Its documentation says a playlist can run for up to 24 hours; check the current account limits for your event before relying on a particular duration.
Encoder or RTMP: computer must be on
Use an encoder event when the feed is genuinely live from OBS or another encoder. Schedule the event in Restream, copy that event’s RTMP URL and stream key into the encoder, and start sending the feed at the event time. The computer running the encoder must remain active and send the feed. Use the key shown on that event’s card: an old or different key may start a separate stream instead of joining the scheduled event.
Prepare the video and YouTube channel
Restream file requirements
Restream’s prerecorded-upload guidance lists MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV containers, H.264 video, AAC audio, and a 2-second keyframe interval as mandatory. It recommends Full HD 1080p, 30 or 60 FPS, and CBR. Restream also recommends adding 15–20 seconds at both the beginning and end so platform processing does not cut into important content. YouTube live-stream eligibility and archives
Restream’s YouTube guidance says live streaming must be enabled on the channel. For a first stream, it says YouTube requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait. Check your channel’s current live-stream status and settings well before the scheduled start. Restream lists YouTube recommendations including H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. It also says YouTube archives streams under 12 hours; that archive threshold is not a maximum live-stream duration. Consult Restream’s YouTube streaming guidance for details.
Check Restream’s plan limits before scheduling
Restream’s help documentation lists different video-library capacities and resolution limits by plan. It says looping is available with Marathon and Media, and that a scheduled video can be looped up to 10 times. Free users’ event thumbnails carry Restream branding. These are plan details that can change, so verify the limits shown for your account before committing to an event.

Restream describes prerecorded events as available to all users, with video size and storage depending on the add-on tier. The values above are examples in its current help documentation, not a guarantee that your account has those limits. Its event guide says a video can be looped up to 10 times. Review the event guide and your account’s current limits before setting up a long broadcast.
Troubleshoot a scheduled event
- The event does not start while your PC is off: Check that you created a prerecorded event or playlist. An RTMP/encoder event does not send itself; its encoder must start and transmit the feed.
- The event is missing or will not connect to YouTube: Confirm the intended YouTube channel is selected and live streaming is enabled. If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow for the phone verification and 24-hour wait described by Restream.
- The encoder creates a separate stream instead of joining the event: Copy the RTMP URL and stream key from the scheduled event’s card again. A different or outdated key may route the feed elsewhere.
- The upload is rejected or playback fails: Check the container, H.264 video, AAC audio, and 2-second keyframe interval against Restream’s stated requirements. Also check your account’s current file size, storage, duration, and resolution limits.
- The beginning or ending is cut short: Restream recommends adding 15–20 seconds of buffer at each end of the source video to account for platform processing.
- A playlist or loop stops sooner than expected: Check the playlist duration and current plan eligibility for looping. Restream lists a playlist maximum of up to 24 hours and up to 10 loops for a scheduled video; confirm the applicable limits in your account.
