For worship videos in a youth-room session, make a curated YouTube playlist, start it on the room’s computer or TV, and check playback on that device before the group arrives. You do not need to start a YouTube livestream just to play videos in the room. Autoplay is not a guarantee of uninterrupted playback: YouTube says it can stop after inactivity, so plan for a volunteer to restart it if needed.
Set up an ordered playlist for the room
- Choose videos the ministry is allowed to play. A playlist organizes videos; it does not grant permission to use their music or footage. Check rights before building the set, especially for recorded performances and music videos.
- Create and order the playlist. Add the videos in the sequence you want, then choose a visibility setting suited to how the group will access it. On a computer, YouTube also lets you save the current queue to a new or existing playlist. A queue is temporary and does not survive closing the browser. See YouTube’s queue and playlist help.
- Use the playback device already available. Start the playlist in the YouTube app on the room TV or in a browser on the computer connected to the display. YouTube documents queue controls for computers and autoplay settings on TVs, but does not identify a best device or say new equipment is required.
- Check autoplay on that device. Autoplay settings can differ from one device to another. Confirm the setting on the actual room screen rather than assuming another device or account’s preference applies.
- Run a session-length test. YouTube says autoplay may stop after four hours on Wi-Fi or 30 minutes on a mobile network because of inactivity. Its help does not promise indefinite or uninterrupted playback. Keep a volunteer available to restart the playlist if it stops.
Menu labels can vary with the TV brand, app version, account settings, and location. YouTube’s autoplay help describes the feature and its device-specific controls.
Playlist playback, autoplay, and livestreaming are different
- A playlist is the sequence you curate.
- Autoplay selects another related video when one ends; it is not a promise to continue through your chosen sequence. Use the playlist itself when order matters.
- A livestream broadcasts a live or encoder-produced feed to remote viewers. It is a separate workflow and is unnecessary for ordinary playback in the room.
If the ministry does want to broadcast to remote viewers, YouTube offers mobile, webcam, encoder, and console routes. Its live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions during the previous 90 days. Review the current YouTube live-stream setup requirements before planning a broadcast.
For an encoder broadcast, configure it through YouTube Live Control Room. A stream key functions as a credential for connecting the encoder to the broadcast, so do not share or expose it. YouTube’s stream settings help covers options including privacy, latency, DVR, and auto-start or auto-stop.

Clear music and video rights before playing or broadcasting
Having a video available on YouTube, or placing it in a playlist, does not establish that a youth ministry has permission to play or rebroadcast it. For a livestream, YouTube’s terms put responsibility on the broadcaster to have the necessary rights, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may replace it with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate the stream. Even a licensed stream may be interrupted if the relevant owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Read the YouTube livestream terms and YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
CCLI’s US guidance says its Streaming License covers worship services using songs performed live by church musicians, while Streaming Plus extends the described scope to authorized master recordings and multitracks. CCLI also says video content usually needs copyright-owner permission, with a stated exception for SongSelect Lyric Videos under its terms. Its US guidance identifies restrictions around artist recordings and prerecorded songs unless expressly authorized. Do not assume a church streaming license covers arbitrary third-party YouTube music videos. Check the terms for your country, repertoire, and specific use, and obtain permission from rights holders when needed: CCLI US Streaming Licenses.

If the playlist stops or plays the wrong video
- Playback stops during the session: YouTube documents inactivity limits for autoplay—four hours on Wi-Fi or 30 minutes on a mobile network. Restart playback, and arrange for a volunteer to monitor it rather than relying on an unattended session.
- The next video is not the next song in your plan: Autoplay may choose a related video. Return to the curated playlist and select the intended sequence.
- Autoplay behaves differently on the TV and computer: Settings can be device-specific. Check autoplay on the device connected to the room display.
- A computer queue disappears: A queue does not persist after the browser closes. Save it as a playlist before ending the setup session.
- A livestream is interrupted or replaced: YouTube may detect third-party content. Recheck permissions for the exact recordings and footage, and confirm with rights holders whether the channel needs Content ID allowlisting. A license for some worship-service uses does not necessarily cover music videos.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded worship videos running as a YouTube livestream for remote viewers—not simply play a playlist on a youth-room screen—StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. It streams uploaded videos to YouTube, not from a camera. Rights still need to be cleared for the content you use. Start a free day with StreamNeo.
