To resume an ASMR broadcast after Windows restarts, set up three separate steps: Windows must launch OBS, OBS must start sending video to YouTube, and YouTube must treat the broadcast as live. Configure each step, then test the entire reboot path and confirm the result in YouTube Studio. An OBS window opening by itself does not prove viewers can see a live stream.
How recovery works
A restart can interrupt the broadcast at several points. Windows may start without opening OBS; OBS may open without connecting to YouTube; or OBS may connect while YouTube waits for you to make the scheduled broadcast live. Plan for and verify each outcome separately.
- Windows starts OBS. Configure OBS to launch at startup or sign-in.
- OBS sends the encoder feed. OBS needs the correct YouTube server URL and stream key, and it must actually begin streaming.
- YouTube makes the broadcast live. A scheduled broadcast may start automatically when the encoder connects, or it may require a manual Go live action, depending on its settings.
1. Connect OBS to the intended YouTube stream
In YouTube Studio, select or create the broadcast you intend to use. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to connect OBS using the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. YouTube notes that returning creators may be able to load previous stream settings, including the key.
Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in screenshots, publish it in scripts, or share it. If you think it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement. Before relying on automatic recovery, confirm OBS has the intended profile and stream configuration saved.

2. Set Windows to launch OBS
Two community-suggested approaches are a shortcut in the Windows Startup folder and a Task Scheduler task. Which is suitable depends on whether you want OBS to start when you sign in or to run under a startup configuration that you have set up in Task Scheduler. The available guidance does not establish one universally best method or a configuration that works across every Windows account and security setup.

3. Decide whether OBS should start streaming automatically
OBS community posts mention launching OBS with the --startstreaming argument. The current official OBS documentation confirming that argument was not established here. Treat it as community-reported: check whether it works with your installed OBS version and saved profile, and verify its behavior with a controlled test before relying on it.
Without a working automatic-start method, Windows may launch OBS but leave it idle. Check OBS after startup to see whether it is connected and sending the stream. Do not assume that seeing the application open means it has begun streaming.

4. Set the YouTube broadcast’s Auto-start behavior
Starting the encoder and making the event live are distinct. OBS’s YouTube guidance says a scheduled broadcast with Auto-start enabled can go live when streaming begins. If Auto-start is disabled, you may need to click Go live yourself. YouTube’s scheduled workflow also describes waiting for the preview and then clicking Go live.

Check the broadcast’s settings and current state in YouTube Studio. The exact outcome after an interruption depends on the event and its settings; do not assume a restarted encoder always resumes the same public broadcast.

5. Test the complete restart path
- Choose a time when an interruption will not disrupt viewers, and tell any co-hosts or moderators about the test.
- Save the intended YouTube stream configuration in OBS and confirm the broadcast’s Auto-start behavior.
- Restart Windows deliberately, then wait for the PC to start and sign in if your chosen startup method requires it.
- Check whether OBS opened and whether it is sending to YouTube. If it did not, note which step failed rather than treating the open window as success.
- Open YouTube Studio and confirm whether the intended broadcast is live. If it is waiting for action, use the appropriate Go live control when you are ready.
- Check the stream from a viewer’s perspective where practical, and repeat the test after changing startup, OBS, or broadcast settings.
Only a successful end-to-end test establishes that your specific PC, account, OBS setup, network, and broadcast settings recover as intended.

- OBS did not open: Check that the shortcut or task points to the correct OBS installation and that the startup method applies to the Windows account you use. Test again after signing in.
- OBS opened, but is not streaming: Confirm the intended OBS profile and YouTube server URL and stream key are saved. Start streaming manually during diagnosis. Treat
--startstreamingas unverified for your installed version until a test confirms it works. - OBS is sending, but YouTube is not live: Check whether the scheduled broadcast has Auto-start enabled. If it is off, a person may need to click Go live in YouTube Studio.
- The first connection fails after a power outage: An OBS forum poster reports that a PC can start before network equipment is ready, and that auto-reconnect may not recover from a failed initial connection. This is an anecdotal failure mode, not a universal rule. Check that the network is available before OBS tries to connect; if timing is the cause, test a delay or retry approach in your setup.
- You are unsure whether the same event or archive continued: Inspect the current event and archive status in YouTube Studio instead of assuming a restart preserves the original broadcast or creates a particular archive. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement does not establish what will happen to every interrupted or restarted event.
