If your FFmpeg stream keeps disconnecting while you use Airtel broadband, first check the whole path rather than assuming Airtel is at fault. Measure sustained upload from the streaming computer, leave headroom above the stream’s total bitrate, confirm the current YouTube event URL and key, and compare FFmpeg’s logs with YouTube Live Control Room health messages. FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer can retry some temporary output failures, but it cannot guarantee uninterrupted viewing or repair every failure.
What can make an FFmpeg stream go offline?
A live stream depends on more than FFmpeg. The input source, encoding process, computer, local network, router or ONT, ISP route, and YouTube ingest endpoint can all affect whether video reaches viewers. A stream disconnect while using Airtel identifies the access service in your setup; by itself, it does not establish that Airtel blocked or throttled the stream, or that there is an Airtel-wide outage.
Searches such as “YouTube live stream keeps going offline on Airtel broadband” describe a symptom, not a confirmed cause. Work through the connection in order and record timestamps and exact error messages. YouTube’s [LiveStreams API reference](https://developers.google.com/youtube/v3/live/docs/liveStreams) describes YouTube live-stream resources; FFmpeg’s [protocol documentation](https://www.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-protocols.html) describes protocol behavior, not Airtel policy.
Set a bitrate your upload can sustain
Use upload capacity measured from the same computer and network path that will run FFmpeg. Advertised download speed is not a useful substitute, and a short speed test does not guarantee steady upload throughout a live event. Measure under representative conditions, note competing traffic, and leave operating headroom above the video bitrate for audio and transport overhead. If the connection cannot sustain that load with margin, reduce the video bitrate, resolution, or frame rate.

YouTube’s current [encoder settings](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2853702?hl=en) recommend choosing quality the connection can sustain and testing upload bitrate. For H.264, YouTube lists these recommended video bitrates: 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 8 Mbps for 1440p at 30 fps, and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not measurements or stability guarantees for Airtel. Consult YouTube’s full current table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you actually use.
Use YouTube’s current ingest details and recommended settings
- Open or create the intended live event in YouTube Studio. Use that event’s current server URL and stream key; do not assume a previously copied key or ingest address is still the right one.
- Prefer RTMPS where supported. YouTube describes RTMPS as an encrypted extension of RTMP. See its [RTMPS ingestion guide](https://developers.google.com/youtube/v3/live/guides/rtmps-ingestion).
- Configure the encoder for YouTube’s guidance. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube specifies constant bitrate (CBR), recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its listed supported video codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; audio options include AAC and MP3. Confirm the current guidance for your chosen codec and output setup.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not paste it into public commands, screenshots, logs, or forum posts. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder configuration.
- Run a representative test. Test with the intended resolution, frame rate, audio, and typical motion before the event. Use an unlisted event or another appropriate visibility setting, check the visible preview and audio, and watch Live Control Room’s stream health messages.
FFmpeg commands depend on your input, codec, stream mapping, and event settings, so there is no single safe command to copy for every setup. The current YouTube values and the actual event’s ingest information should determine your output configuration.

Add limited output recovery with FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer
FFmpeg’s official [formats documentation](https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-formats.html) describes the fifo pseudo-muxer: it separates encoding and muxing using a first-in-first-out queue and a separate thread. The documentation’s RTMP example uses these options:
-f fifo -fifo_format flv -drop_pkts_on_overflow 1 -attempt_recovery 1 -recovery_wait_time 1
They illustrate a recovery pattern, not a complete command for every YouTube stream. Check your installed FFmpeg version and supported options, then integrate the muxer into a command appropriate to your input and output. In this example, -attempt_recovery 1 enables attempts to recover output after failures, and -recovery_wait_time 1 sets the wait between attempts in the documented pattern. The FIFO queue lets processing continue at real-time rate during some temporary network failures while output recovery is attempted.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
-drop_pkts_on_overflow 1 allows encoding to continue if the queue fills, but some stream data may be omitted. Recovery cannot guarantee seamless playback for viewers, fix permanent errors, or prove that an ISP caused a failure. Check the installed build’s documentation rather than assuming every version supports identical options.
Diagnose the failure one link at a time
- Check the source. Confirm that the input still produces the expected video and audio. An ended or stalled input is different from a network output failure.
- Verify the YouTube event and output. Confirm the current ingest URL and key, supported output format and protocol, and that the intended event is active.
- Inspect FFmpeg and system load. Record timestamps and exact logs. Look for encoding errors, output errors, and CPU or hardware-encoder overload.
- Measure sustained upload on the streaming computer. Note other network traffic and compare available upload with the configured video bitrate plus audio and protocol overhead. Reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if there is insufficient margin.
- Compare Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Test over wired Ethernet, then compare Wi-Fi where practical. Change only one variable at a time; a generic Ethernet cable is an optional diagnostic, not a cure for encoder overload, ISP routing, or YouTube ingest problems.
- Inspect the router or ONT when evidence points there. Check its link status and logs; reboot or change equipment only as a local diagnostic, not as a presumed fix.
- Compare both sides’ timestamps. Match FFmpeg logs to YouTube Live Control Room’s preview and health messages. A local encoder error, an ingest warning, and a link drop suggest different failure points.
- Escalate with evidence. If the issue persists only on a particular provider path, give Airtel support timestamps, logs, wired-test results, and affected event details. The available evidence does not establish a general Airtel YouTube Live block or a current local outage.
