To make bhajan videos sound consistent in a YouTube playlist, measure each complete song’s perceived loudness, apply the same loudness-normalization target to working copies, then listen through the sequence and check it in stereo and mono. Peak normalization alone is not enough: it matches the highest peaks, not how loud each song sounds to a listener. YouTube’s Stable volume may help on eligible playback, but it is not a substitute for preparing your files.
Why one bhajan video can sound much louder than another
Playlist videos often come from different recordings, performances, mastering choices, or upload sources. Their peak levels can be similar even when one sounds much louder overall. Conversely, a song with a high transient peak may sound quieter than a more compressed track whose average level is higher.
Peak normalization changes a file so its highest sample peak reaches a chosen level. Loudness normalization measures perceived loudness, typically in LUFS, and adjusts the track toward a chosen loudness target. Audacity’s manual describes loudness normalization as appropriate when several tracks need to sit at comparable levels (Audacity: Loudness Normalisation).
Prepare and normalize the songs
- Keep untouched originals. Make working copies of the source audio or videos before editing. This gives you a way back if the result clips, sounds distorted, or loses too much musical contrast.
- Measure each complete song. Import the audio into an editor such as Audacity and measure perceived loudness across the whole audible song in LUFS. Do not judge a whole devotional track from a short loud passage or from peak level alone.
- Choose one target for this playlist. There is no official YouTube LUFS target established by the YouTube guidance cited here. Pick a practical target for your intended listening context and apply it consistently, then listen critically. Do not treat the EBU broadcast recommendation as a YouTube setting: EBU R 128 version 5.0 recommends average programme loudness of −23 LUFS for broadcast programme audio, not YouTube (EBU R 128).
- Normalize stereo as a linked pair. For ordinary stereo recordings, keep the left and right channels linked during normalization. Audacity warns that normalizing the channels independently can change stereo balance. Only adjust channels separately when they are genuinely separate recordings and you have a specific imbalance to correct.
- Listen for musical and technical problems. Normalization changes level; it does not repair distortion already present in a recording. Check whether a quiet devotional passage still feels natural, whether louder sections remain clear, and whether the output clips. Avoid pushing every song simply to make waveforms look equally large.
Check the playlist sequence and playback compatibility
Listen to the beginnings and endings of the songs, plus the transitions in the order you plan to stream them. Look for abrupt loudness changes, unintended silence, clicks, clipping, or a jarring pause between videos. A level that works on headphones may behave differently on a phone or a single-speaker device.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube notes that stereo can be converted to mono on a one-speaker mobile device; poor mono compatibility can reduce audio quality or mute sound. Check a mono or single-speaker playback path as well as headphones, and listen for elements that become faint or disappear (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot audio or video issues with uploads on YouTube).
Export settings and uploading to YouTube
For general troubleshooting and upload guidance, YouTube Help lists AAC-LC audio at 128–256 kbps and a 44.1 or 48 kHz sample rate. These are general guidance values, not a guarantee that every source or editing workflow will benefit from changing its settings. Use an export that your editor supports and that suits your upload route (YouTube Help: Troubleshoot audio or video issues with uploads on YouTube).

YouTube’s separate recommended encoding page lists AAC-LC or Opus, 48 kHz, and 384 kbps stereo specifically for Content Manager partners. Do not apply those partner-specific figures as universal requirements for ordinary channel uploads (YouTube Help: YouTube recommended upload encoding settings).
YouTube does not accept an audio-only file as a video upload. Put a still image or other picture together with the audio in a video editor, export a video file, upload it, and arrange the uploaded videos in the intended playlist. See YouTube Help: Upload YouTube videos for the upload workflow.

Can YouTube automatically balance volume between videos?
YouTube’s Stable volume feature “balances the range between quiet and loud, continuously adjusting volume levels to reduce variations in sound.” Its availability varies, and it is disabled for YouTube Music and official music videos. Because it is not available for every video and does not replace source-file preparation, normalize and review your playlist before upload rather than relying on playback processing (YouTube Help: Control video volume on your device).
Troubleshooting common level problems
- One song still sounds much louder despite similar peaks: Peaks do not represent perceived loudness. Measure the full song in LUFS and use loudness normalization rather than peak normalization alone.
- The stereo image shifts after processing: Check whether left and right channels were normalized separately. For ordinary stereo material, process the pair together.
- A song sounds harsh or distorted after normalization: Return to the untouched copy and check for clipping or distortion in the source and export. Normalization cannot restore clean audio that was already damaged.
- Parts disappear on a phone or mono speaker: Check mono compatibility. A stereo mix that relies on phase differences can lose elements when summed to mono.
- The uploaded file has no picture or cannot be uploaded as a video: Combine the audio with a still image or video picture in an editor, export the result as a video file, and upload that file.
- A particular video does not have Stable volume: The feature is not universal and is excluded for YouTube Music and official music videos. Treat the prepared source files as the consistent baseline.
