To make OBS start streaming after Windows restarts, launch OBS at your Windows account’s sign-in with its documented --startstreaming parameter. For a visible, controllable OBS session, use a Task Scheduler logon task, set its working directory to the folder containing obs64.exe, and test it with your actual YouTube event and network. This starts OBS’s streaming output; it cannot guarantee that YouTube restores the same live event or that OBS recovers from every network failure.
What automatic restart can—and cannot—do
OBS Project documents --startstreaming as a launch parameter that automatically starts streaming when OBS launches. It does not continually monitor OBS and relaunch it if the program later crashes or streaming stops. Nor does the parameter control what happens to a particular YouTube live event after a disconnect. That depends on the destination’s event and stream settings, so verify the result with the channel and event you intend to use.
For yoga nidra, confirm more than the OBS status indicator: the intended video and audio sources must load, the stream must reach YouTube, and the correct live event must appear to viewers. A scheduled livestream may need different platform-side handling than a persistent stream configuration.
Choose how OBS should launch

Microsoft describes a logon trigger as one that “starts a task when a user logs on.” For an ordinary desktop workflow, prefer the account’s logon trigger over a task that starts before sign-in unless you have tested that alternative on the exact PC and OBS setup.

Prepare and test the yoga nidra stream manually
- Open OBS and select the intended profile, scene collection, and scene. Check that the yoga nidra recording is available at its saved path and that the correct audio source is routed and audible.
- Confirm OBS’s streaming destination and credentials. Start the stream manually, then check OBS reports streaming and that YouTube shows the intended live event.
- Save the profile and scene collection. Resolve any missing-media, audio, credential, or platform-event issue before automating launch; automation will not fix those problems.
- Stop the manual test when appropriate. Keep the PC connected to the network and power arrangement you expect to use for the unattended stream.
Set up Task Scheduler to start OBS at sign-in
- Find the executable. Locate the installed
obs64.exeon the target PC. A typical installation usesC:Program Filesobs-studiobin64bitobs64.exe, but use the actual path on your system. - Add the launch parameter. Create or edit an OBS shortcut. In its Target field, put the quoted executable path followed by a space and
--startstreaming:"C:Program Filesobs-studiobin64bitobs64.exe" --startstreaming. If your path differs, substitute it. OBS also documents optional arguments such as--profile "name",--collection "name", and--scene "name"to select a particular saved setup. - Create the task. In Windows Task Scheduler, create a task with a logon trigger for the Windows account that runs OBS, and an action that starts
obs64.exewith the launch argument (or starts the prepared shortcut). Microsoft’s logon-trigger settings allow a delay; use one only if startup contention is an issue, then verify an appropriate value on your PC rather than assuming a fixed delay will work everywhere. - Set “Start in”. In the action’s working-directory field, enter the folder containing
obs64.exe, without the executable filename. For the typical path above, that folder isC:Program Filesobs-studiobin64bit. OBS specifically calls for this working directory when launching on a schedule or through automation. - Review the network condition. Task Scheduler can be configured to start the task only when a network connection is available. This checks Windows’s network-availability status; it does not verify that YouTube or the streaming endpoint can be reached, validate credentials, or create a retry loop if OBS starts too early.
- Save and test safely. Sign out and back in, or perform a planned restart, only when an unattended broadcast is acceptable. Verify that OBS opens under the intended account, the right scene and audio play, OBS reports streaming, and YouTube shows the intended event.
Test recovery after a router or modem restart
A PC can start before network equipment is ready after a power outage. A logon delay may help with ordinary startup ordering, but no fixed delay guarantees that a slow router or modem will be ready. If recovery from that situation matters, test the actual equipment sequence: restart the network equipment, allow it to reconnect, then confirm OBS is streaming to the intended YouTube event. The network-availability condition alone is not proof that the streaming service is reachable.
OBS’s launch parameter starts streaming on launch; it is not, by itself, a general-purpose retry or recovery system. A more elaborate retry loop requires additional automation and careful testing.

Troubleshoot when OBS launches but the stream does not
- OBS does not open: Check the executable path, the Task Scheduler action, and that
--startstreamingis included after the quoted path. Confirm the task is configured for the Windows account you expect. - OBS opens but does not start streaming: Recheck the launch argument, selected profile and scene collection, saved destination, and credentials. Test manual streaming again to separate an automation problem from a destination or account problem.
- The wrong scene appears or the video is missing: Check the saved scene and profile selection, and make sure the media file still exists at the path OBS expects. Confirm that the selected scene contains the intended yoga nidra sources.
- Video plays without the intended audio: Check the source’s audio routing and levels in the saved scene, then verify the audio in the live event rather than relying only on local playback.
- The task runs but OBS is not visible: Check whether the task starts before user sign-in. For a visible desktop workflow, use a normal user-logon trigger and verify it while signed in.
- OBS starts before the network is ready: A logon delay or network-availability condition may help with ordinary startup ordering, but neither confirms service availability nor guarantees recovery after a slow network-device boot. Test with the real router and modem sequence.
- A recovery or safe-mode prompt appears: An abnormal-shutdown prompt can interrupt unattended startup. Resolve the underlying shutdown issue and test behavior on the installed OBS release; do not rely on undocumented flags.
- OBS reports streaming, but the intended YouTube event is absent: Check the destination’s live-event configuration and whether it permits the expected automatic start or reconnect behavior. OBS launch settings cannot settle platform-side event behavior.
