Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor prerecorded videos in one YouTube Live broadcast, set up an OBS VLC Video source playlist, choose how it behaves when hidden, and test every file boundary—including the loop from the last item to the first. OBS documents playlist and visibility controls, but its documentation does not promise gapless audio or an audio crossfade between items. If the handoff still has a gap, make the audio a continuous track before streaming or use a playout workflow that supports the overlap you need. 4K60 encoder settings control the outgoing stream; they do not fix a gap at a playlist boundary.
If you mean switching as a viewer among separate live broadcasts, that is a different problem: the sources cited here do not establish a setting that guarantees uninterrupted audio across that switch.
Set up an OBS playlist and choose its visibility behavior
- Add the media source: In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the local video files in the order you want them to play. The source supports ordered or shuffled playback and playlist looping. If VLC Video is unavailable, install VLC. Match its architecture to OBS: for example, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. See OBS’s VLC Video Source documentation.
- Decide what happens when the source is hidden: In the source’s playlist options, choose whether playback continues, pauses, or stops when it is not visible. A scene change can hide the source, so do not assume playback will continue through a transition unless that is the selected behavior.
- Check the audio path: Watch the OBS audio mixer while each item plays. Confirm that the playlist’s audio reaches the intended output and that no other scene or source mutes, replaces, or duplicates it.
- Test every handoff: Play through all items using the exact files you intend to stream. Listen at each transition and at the last-to-first loop. A playlist setting does not certify that separate files will join without silence.
OBS’s documentation describes playlist playback, looping, and visibility behavior; it does not document a gapless-audio guarantee or a per-item crossfade for VLC Video. Treat the boundary as something to verify in your own media and setup.
What to do if a boundary still has a gap
Make the audio continuous before playout
If uninterrupted sound matters more than keeping each video as a separate item, edit or pre-render the audio as one continuous track, then use a media workflow that keeps that bed running while the video changes. Alternatively, use a playout workflow that supports the specific overlap or crossfade you need. These are production approaches, not documented guarantees about OBS VLC Video.

Test the real files and the real stream path
Before an event, run a representative test with audio and motion similar to the planned broadcast. YouTube recommends testing before going live, monitoring stream health, and reviewing any messages. Its encoder guidance says: “Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” See YouTube’s live encoder settings and troubleshooting guidance. Use a private or unlisted test when appropriate for your channel and event.
Set YouTube’s encoder for 4K60 separately
These output settings affect the live feed sent to YouTube, not the transition between files in OBS. YouTube’s current encoder-settings page, accessed in 2026, lists the following bitrate guidance for 4K/2160p at 60fps:

| Video encoding | YouTube’s listed 4K60 bitrate |
|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 | 10 Mbps minimum to 40 Mbps maximum |
| H.264 | 35 Mbps recommended |
Use the value applicable to your chosen codec and make sure your upload connection can sustain the stream. YouTube’s general encoder guidance also specifies RTMP or RTMPS ingest, H.264/H.265/AV1 video, up to 60fps, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube recommends RTMPS and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. These figures are YouTube’s published encoder guidance, not a promise that a particular connection will remain stable.
- Run an upload speed test and leave capacity for network variation.
- Test representative audio and motion before the event, then monitor YouTube stream health during the broadcast.
- At 4K, low-latency mode is unavailable; YouTube uses normal latency.
YouTube transcodes live streams into formats for different devices and network conditions. OBS notes that a consistent keyframe interval can help its source selector transition smoothly between quality options. That is about switching output quality renditions, not an audio crossfade between playlist items. See OBS’s streaming quality settings documentation.

Do not confuse HLS segments with separate video files
Google’s HLS documentation describes media segments that can be concatenated as a continuous, decodable multimedia stream. Those segments belong to an encoded feed; they are not separate OBS playlist files, and the documentation does not establish that an HLS playlist will make distinct videos join gaplessly. Likewise, it does not describe switching among separate YouTube live broadcasts. See Google’s HLS ingestion documentation.
YouTube’s HDR HLS guidance says an HDR rolling playlist may have no more than five outstanding segments. That limit applies to HDR HLS ingestion, not to ordinary OBS playlist transitions; see YouTube’s HDR live-streaming guidance.

Troubleshoot by locating where the interruption occurs
| Symptom | Likely layer | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Silence starts at the same point each time, exactly at a file change | Media or playout handoff | Test the boundary in OBS with the actual files; check source visibility behavior and the audio mixer. If it persists, prepare a continuous audio bed or use playout that supports the required overlap. |
| Playback pauses or stops after a scene change | OBS source visibility | Review the VLC Video source’s behavior when hidden and select the intended continue, pause, or stop behavior. |
| Audio or video drops out irregularly, or YouTube reports stream-health problems | Encoder or network ingest | Check upload stability, encoder settings, and YouTube stream-health messages. Repeat a representative test and monitor the feed. |
| Audio breaks while a viewer switches between separate live broadcasts | YouTube player or broadcast switch | The sources cited here do not establish a setting that guarantees uninterrupted audio across separate broadcasts. Do not treat OBS playlist or encoder settings as a fix for that viewer-side switch. |
