Then select a label type and customize its template and appearance. You’ll also need an Alert Box source in the stream, though it can be hidden.
Set up a Stream Label in Streamlabs Desktop
- Open Streamlabs Desktop and go to Sources.
- Click +, then choose Stream Label under Essentials.
- Enter a name for the source and add it.
- In the settings, choose the type of label you want, such as Top tipper, Most recent follower, or Most recent subscriber.
- Customize the template and appearance, then position and size the text in your scene.
Templates can include bracketed variables such as {name}; Streamlabs fills these with the relevant account or event information. The official guide lists appearance options including font family, text transform, vertical orientation, and text extents. Choose settings that fit the space available in your overlay.
Add the required Alert Box source
Streamlabs says its built-in Stream Labels in Streamlabs Desktop require an Alert Box widget source in the stream. If you do not want alerts displayed, the Alert Box source can be hidden. See Streamlabs’ Stream Labels setup guide and its explanation of the Alert Box requirement.
Which Stream Labels workflow should you use?
| Workflow | How it works | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in Streamlabs Desktop source | Add Stream Label through Sources > + > Essentials. Requires an Alert Box source, which can be hidden. | You stream with Streamlabs Desktop and want a native text source. |
| Streamlabs OBS plugin | The guide describes adding a Stream Label through the plugin and assigning it to a scene. | You use the plugin-based workflow described by Streamlabs. |
| Standalone Stream Labels app | The app writes stream-stat text files that another streaming program can read. | You use OBS or comparable software and prefer file-based integration. |
Streamlabs’ setup guide describes its label library inconsistently, giving two different counts. It is more useful to choose by label type and workflow than to rely on a precise number of available labels.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use the standalone app with OBS or another streaming application
Streamlabs describes Stream Labels as an application that generates text files containing stream statistics. Ethan May’s Streamlabs guide, published June 18, 2021 and last updated January 28, 2026, uses that description. For file-based use:
- Log in to the Stream Labels app and choose an output directory.
- Run the app so it can generate and update the text files.
- In OBS or compatible software, add a text source to the scene.
- Enable Read from file for that text source and choose the matching generated file.
- Leave the Stream Labels app running while streaming if you want real-time file updates.
For the file-based route, the text source reads the file; the Stream Labels app supplies updated contents. If the app is closed, its text files will not continue updating in real time. Streamlabs documents this workflow in its setup guide.

Troubleshoot missing Twitch events
If Twitch events are missing from Recent Events or the Mini Feed, Streamlabs recommends reconnecting the integration. This guidance is specific to those event displays, not a universal fix for every Stream Label issue.
- Log out of Streamlabs.com and Streamlabs software.
- In Twitch settings, disconnect the Streamlabs integration.
- Clear your browser cookies and cache.
- Log back in and reconnect Streamlabs.
- If necessary, update your widget or alert URLs.
Streamlabs says reconnecting can help future events appear; it does not restore past events that are already missing. Follow its Recent Events and Mini Feed troubleshooting steps.

Or let it run in the cloud
Stream Labels configure on-screen text; they are separate from keeping a pre-recorded YouTube stream live. If you also want uploaded videos to loop on YouTube while your computer is off, StreamNeo runs that stream from the cloud: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
