First determine whether the mismatch stays roughly the same or grows as the loop runs. A steady offset may be corrected with an OBS sync delay; progressive drift usually needs investigation of the source, clock, or monitoring path. Record or privately test the same setup you plan to stream, compare the start with a later point, adjust one thing at a time, then test again.
Test the stream before changing settings
Make a representative test
Use the same loop, OBS scene, audio routing, and encoder path intended for the broadcast. Include visible movement and, if possible, a clear synchronization cue such as a clap or a sharp on-screen event with a corresponding sound. YouTube recommends testing representative content with both audio and movement before going live: YouTube live encoder settings and testing.
Record the output locally or run an unlisted or private test broadcast. Judge the saved recording or test stream, not monitoring playback alone: the monitoring path can differ from what the encoder records or sends.
Compare the beginning and a later point
Check the cue near the start, then inspect another cue later in the recording or broadcast. If the sound is early or late by about the same amount at both points, the problem is probably a stable offset. If the mismatch becomes larger over time, treat it as drift. A single delay adjustment can move the starting point but will not necessarily stop progressive drift.

Correct a stable audio-video offset in OBS
If audio is early
Add a measured sync delay to the affected audio source. In OBS, open Advanced Audio Properties from the Audio Mixer options and adjust that source’s Sync Offset. Use a small change based on the observed mismatch, then record another test and compare it. Do not apply a generic delay value: the right adjustment depends on how far out of sync your own output is.
If video is early
Instead of delaying audio, you can delay the video source that is ahead. OBS source timing controls can vary by source type and version; use the delay control available for the affected source, make a measured adjustment, and verify it in a new recording or test broadcast. OBS community troubleshooting discusses audio sync delay and per-video-source delay as possible adjustment points, but the appropriate control depends on the setup: OBS discussion of a video and audio sync problem.

Change one control at a time
Keep a note of the original setting and each change. If a test gets worse, restore the prior value before trying a different control. Avoid changing sync offsets, frame rate, resolution, and bitrate all at once; otherwise it is difficult to identify which change affected the result.
Investigate progressive drift
When sync gets worse over time, look beyond a fixed offset. The cause is setup-dependent, and there is no one delay number that corrects every loop stream.

- Compare local recording and YouTube playback. If a local recording also drifts, focus on the source, capture, clock, or monitoring path. If only the YouTube playback appears wrong, compare it with the encoded recording before changing OBS timing.
- Check source and device clocks. Multiple capture or audio devices can use separate timing sources. Review how the media, audio, and video are captured and routed, and test with a simpler path if practical.
- Separate monitoring from output. Monitoring playback may take a different route from the encoded stream. Use the saved output or private test as the reference for adjustments.
- Review stream health while testing. YouTube’s stream-health and encoder status can report issues such as low video bitrate, frame-rate mismatch, or no audio stream. These indicate delivery or quality problems to investigate, not a direct measurement of lip sync: YouTube Live Streaming API stream health documentation.
OBS forum guidance also points to monitoring and separate clocks as possible contributors to sync problems. These are troubleshooting leads, not universal causes; test the actual path used by your loop.
Keep encoder settings within YouTube’s recommendations
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance as a baseline while diagnosing timing. The guidance accessed in 2026 recommends AAC or MP3 audio, a 44.1 kHz sample rate for stereo, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. These settings help meet YouTube’s ingest recommendations; they are not a guaranteed lip-sync fix. See YouTube’s encoder settings guide for the applicable recommendations.

Keep the existing resolution, frame rate, and bitrate steady during a sync test unless stream-health messages point to an encoder issue. If you do need to change an encoder setting, change one variable, then make and review another test.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not confuse lip sync with viewer latency
Latency is the time between capture and when viewers see the stream. A stream can reach viewers late while its audio and video remain aligned. YouTube notes that lower latency means less read-ahead buffer and can make buffering more likely; network congestion can also delay a live stream. Changing latency mode alone is therefore not a general correction for relative audio-video timing. Read YouTube’s explanation of live-streaming latency.

Verify the correction before going live
- Record or privately test the same loop and routing planned for the broadcast.
- Compare a clear audio-video cue near the beginning and another later in the output.
- Confirm that a stable mismatch has been reduced without creating an offset in the opposite direction, or that suspected drift is no longer worsening.
- Check YouTube stream health and encoder status, then repeat the test if you change a setting.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the loop should stay live without keeping OBS or a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos to YouTube. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays the uploaded video rather than broadcasting from a camera. The computer at home does not have to stay on; uploaded quality is retained up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Start at StreamNeo’s free trial registration.
