Start with #userlist so you target the correct server ID, name, or player number. For remote administration, BattlEye RCon uses players, then kick, ban, or addBan. A local server ban and a BattlEye global ban are different systems administered by different authorities.

Choose the right removal method
Your access path determines which command to use and where the restriction is stored. Use the shortest-lived action that solves the problem: a kick for a one-session disruption, a timed ban for a defined suspension, or a permanent ban when your server policy requires it.

Kick a connected player from the in-game admin interface
These controls are dedicated-server administration commands. You must have authenticated with the server administrator password; being a regular player, mission host, or squad leader does not grant this authority.
- Authenticate as an administrator. Enter the server administrator password through the server’s admin-login control. If the login is rejected, none of the administrative commands below will be available to you.
- List connected players. Run
#userlist. Read the output carefully and note the target’s displayed name, server ID, or player number. Names can be similar, and a player who disconnects can make an old number misleading. - Kick by the identifier you verified. Run
#kick 3for a player number or server ID shown in your list, or use the equivalent name form such as#kick Nickname. Include a reason when the command interface accepts one so the action is understandable to moderators and the affected player. - Confirm the result. Run
#userlistagain. The player should no longer appear as connected. A kick only removes the current session; the same person can reconnect unless another control prevents it.
Use the numeric identifier whenever possible. It avoids ambiguity when two players have similar display names and prevents punctuation or spacing in a name from being interpreted as a different target.

Use #exec kick and #exec ban correctly
The #exec forms take a quoted string. This requirement applies whether the string contains a player name, a UID, or a player number.

For a local ban, run #userlist first and copy the identifier exactly. The command adds the player’s ID to ban.txt for this server. That scope matters: a local entry affects your server’s ban list, not every Arma 3 server and not BattlEye’s global enforcement system.

Do not remove the quotation marks from an #exec kick or #exec ban target. A command such as #exec ban 3 does not satisfy the documented string requirement. If a name contains spaces, the quotes are also what keeps the name together as one argument.
Set up remote BattlEye RCon administration
RCon is the appropriate route when you need to administer a dedicated server without joining it in-game. BattlEye’s server configuration provides an RConPort, an optional RConIP, and a required RConPassword. Configure those values on the server, then connect with an RCon client using the same endpoint and password. Keep the RCon password private and limit access to trusted administrators.

Find the connected player’s number
After connecting, run:
playersThe response lists connected players and their player numbers. Use that number in the next command rather than guessing from a display name.
Kick through RCon
kick [player #] [reason]Replace [player #] with the number returned by players. The reason is supplied in the same command when you want the removal explained. This is a session kick, not a lasting ban.

Apply a timed or permanent RCon ban
ban [player #] [time in minutes] [reason]The time value is measured in minutes. BattlEye documents an omitted time or a value of 0 as a permanent ban. For example, a 60-minute suspension uses a 60-minute value; a permanent action uses 0 (or omits the time where the client permits that form). Include a reason so your moderation records explain why the action was taken.
Ban someone who is offline
The connected-player ban command requires a player number from the current players list. To target a player who is not connected, use:

addBan [GUID or IP address] [time in minutes] [reason]This accepts a GUID or IP address directly and supports the same timed-versus-permanent distinction. Use a GUID when you have one; an IP can change or be shared, so treat an IP-based restriction as a deliberate policy choice.
Inspect, reload, save, and remove BattlEye bans
RCon includes maintenance commands for the BattlEye ban list. They are useful when a ban appears not to have loaded, when you need to verify an entry, or when an appeal is granted.

If you administer bans during a busy session, check the result with bans and use writeBans when you need to ensure the current list is written. After an external edit or a restart-related discrepancy, loadBans reloads the stored list. Use removeBan for an approved unban rather than creating a second, conflicting entry.

clearKicks
clearBansusers lists users for the script’s administration context. The kick and ban forms act on the supplied user ID and accept a reason. unkick and unban reverse an individual restriction, while clearKicks and clearBans clear their respective collections.
This VM is separate from the ordinary game scripting environment. A mission script cannot directly call these server-administration commands just because it runs on the server. To use them from mission-side automation, the mission must compile a script containing a server command; otherwise, keep administration in the dedicated-server controls or RCon.
Understand local bans versus BattlEye global bans
A local ban made with #exec ban is an entry in your server’s local ban list, represented by ban.txt. It controls access to that server. BattlEye RCon bans use the BattlEye ban list associated with your server and can be timed or permanent; RCon’s addBan can add a GUID or IP even when the user is offline.
Neither action should be described as a BattlEye global ban. Global BattlEye bans are administered by BattlEye, not by an individual server owner. If a player is told they have a global ban, the server administrator cannot lift it with #exec ban, removeBan, or another local command; global-ban questions must be directed to BattlEye’s own support process.

Troubleshoot failed kicks and bans
The command is rejected or does nothing
- Verify that you authenticated with the dedicated-server administrator password. These commands are not ordinary player chat commands.
- Confirm that you are administering a dedicated server. The multiplayer administration controls are documented for dedicated-server use.
- Run
#userlistor RConplayersagain. A player may have disconnected, causing a previously valid number to point nowhere or to a different connection. - For
#exec kickand#exec ban, put the target inside quotation marks, including numeric targets such as"3".
The wrong player was removed
- Prefer the current numeric identifier from
#userlistorplayersover a name that may be duplicated or changed. - Recheck the list immediately before issuing the command, especially after players join or leave.
- For names with spaces, preserve the complete quoted string. If the name is difficult to match, use the UID or numeric identifier instead.
The player returns after a kick
That is expected: #kick and RCon kick remove the current session only. Use a local #exec ban or an RCon timed/permanent ban when the policy requires preventing reconnection.
A ban does not appear to persist
- Check which system you used. A local
#exec banwrites to the localban.txtlist; an RCon ban belongs to the BattlEye list. - For RCon, inspect entries with
bans, reload withloadBanswhen appropriate, and persist changes withwriteBans. - Confirm the identifier. A display name is not the same as a GUID, and an offline RCon ban requires a GUID or IP with
addBan.
Remote RCon cannot connect
- Check that the server has an
RConPortandRConPasswordconfigured, and that the client is using the same values. - If the server binds RCon to a specific address, verify the optional
RConIPvalue and connect to that address. - Do not rely on the disabled
#beserverroute in community references; use the documented RCon connection instead.
A player says the ban is global
Ask which message they received and which authority issued it. Your local ban list and BattlEye server ban list are server-level controls. A BattlEye global ban is handled by BattlEye, so a server owner cannot reverse it with local administration commands.
A practical moderation sequence
- Record the complaint and identify the rule involved.
- Authenticate with the appropriate administrator method.
- Capture the current identifier using
#userlistor RConplayers. - Use
#kickor RConkickwhen a one-session removal is sufficient. - Use
#exec banfor a ban limited to this server, or RConban/addBanwhen you need BattlEye-list management, a duration, or an offline target. - Include a clear reason and verify the resulting list with
#userlist,bans, or the relevant server-side command. - For reversals, use the matching unban control: RCon
removeBanfor a BattlEye entry or the server-sideunbancommand for a scripted restriction.
Which command should you use?
For an immediate, temporary removal while you are in the game, run #userlist followed by #kick. For a local server ban, use #exec ban "target" and remember that the quoted target is required. For remote control, configure RCon, run players, then choose kick, a timed or permanent ban, or offline-capable addBan. Keep the scope clear in your records: server-local restrictions, BattlEye server bans, and BattlEye global bans are separate systems.
