Kick ends the current session but allows the player to return; Ban blocks that account from re-entering. Existing bans can be reversed from Banned Players with Unban.
What you need before moderating
These controls are not available to every player. You must connect to the dedicated server with an account that the server owner or host has registered as an administrator. Being the person who rented or started the server does not, by itself, guarantee that the account you are using in game has admin rights.

- An authorized account: EmeraldHost and other hosting documentation describe kick and ban as registered-admin functions.
- A connected target for an immediate action: The in-game player list can act on players currently connected. A player who is offline will not appear there for a live kick.
- Access to the server controls: You need to be able to open the pause menu and reach the Admin or Player Management area.
If the Admin section is missing, first check that you joined with the account that was granted administrator status. Do not assume that typing a slash command in chat will substitute for authorization; the documented vanilla workflow is the Admin interface.
Kick or ban a connected player from the Admin menu
The labels can vary slightly between guides and game builds. One build may show Player Management first and then Admin; another may expose Admin directly. The moderation choices are the same.

- Join the server as an administrator. Connect normally, then confirm that the account has been registered as an admin. If you cannot see an Admin or Player Management entry after joining, leave the server and have the owner verify the authorization before attempting further steps.
- Open the pause menu. Press Esc while connected. Select Player Management if that menu is present, then open Admin. If your build displays Admin immediately, select it directly.
- Select the player. The Admin area lists the players currently connected. Click the account you need to moderate, taking care to distinguish similarly named players.
- Choose the action. Select Kick for a temporary removal or Ban for a re-entry block. Read the confirmation prompt, if one appears, before accepting.
- Confirm the result. A kick should disconnect the selected player’s current session. A ban should prevent that account from joining again. If the player remains connected after a supposed action, reopen the list and verify that you selected the intended account, then check the troubleshooting section below.
Shockbyte’s February 3, 2025 guide, written by Game Experience Engineer Nathan Franklin, describes this exact in-game sequence and states that administrators can kick or ban players from the Admin menu.
Kick versus ban: choose the least permanent action that solves the problem

The distinction is important when you are responding under pressure. Kick is immediate and temporary. Ban is persistent until an administrator reverses it. If you only need to clear a disruptive session and expect the player to return after a conversation, kick avoids creating a ban that someone must later remove.
How to unban a player
Unbanning is also performed in the Admin area; it is not documented as a separate console command.
- Join the dedicated server using an account with administrator rights.
- Press Esc and open Player Management, then Admin, or open Admin directly if that is how your build labels the menu.
- Open the Banned Players list.
- Select the account whose restriction should be removed.
- Choose Unban and confirm if the game asks for confirmation.
Unban changes the account’s eligibility to join; it does not reconnect a player automatically. The person must attempt a new connection after the restriction has been removed. If the player is still connected when you begin, verify the list entry and use the appropriate current-session action separately rather than assuming Unban will disconnect or reconnect anyone.

Why /kick and /ban are not dependable vanilla commands
Abiotic Factor has a dedicated-server console, but the published vanilla command list is limited. The Abiotic Factor Wiki documents commands such as showtime, showdatetime, hidedatetime, color commands, and quit. It also explains that gameplay-related tweaks and sandbox settings cannot be changed from within that console. Kick and ban are not included in that documented list.
Hosting documentation likewise directs administrators to the in-game Admin menu and specifically notes that vanilla Abiotic Factor does not document /kick or /ban. A command may appear to be accepted by a hosting panel, chat box, or third-party tool without being a supported game function. For a standard server, use the menu path instead of promising players that a slash command exists.
This does not mean every server-side modification is impossible; it means the supported, clearly documented moderation route is the Admin interface. If a provider exposes additional controls, treat those as provider-specific and verify that they apply to your game build before relying on them.
Optional file-based bans with Admin.ini
EmeraldHost documents a second, file-based method for placing a ban at server startup. This is a community-hosting procedure rather than an officially documented in-game workflow, so use it only when you understand your host’s file manager and have a recoverable backup.

File location and format
The documented path is:
/AbioticFactor/Saved/SaveGames/Server/Admin.iniWithin that file, the guide uses a [BannedPlayers] section and an entry in this form:
[BannedPlayers]
BannedPlayer=76561198012345678The numeric value in the example is a SteamID64-style account identifier. Replace it only with the identifier for the account you intend to restrict; do not paste the example value as a real ban.

- Stop the server completely. Do not edit the file while the server process is running.
- Make a backup. Save a copy of the current
Admin.iniso a formatting mistake can be reversed. - Open the exact file. Navigate to the path above in the host’s file manager or transfer tool.
- Add the documented section and entry. Preserve the section spelling and the
BannedPlayer=key format. Avoid changing unrelated settings. - Save the file, then restart the server. The hosting guide says bans are read at startup, so a restart is required for this route.
- Test after startup. Confirm that the intended account cannot reconnect, and inspect the file again if the result does not match the change.
This method does not immediately remove a player who is already connected. For an active session, use the in-game Kick or Ban control first. Also treat the file format as update-sensitive: because the route is not officially documented, a future game or host update could change the path or behavior. Keep the in-game Admin workflow as your primary method whenever it is available.
Practical moderation decisions
Use Kick for a one-time disruption
Kick is the appropriate first response when you need the current session to end but have not decided that the account should be barred from future play. It removes the immediate connection and leaves the player able to return. Because there is no ban record to reverse, it also keeps the administrative state simple.

Use Ban for a persistent access decision
Choose Ban when the account should not be allowed to reconnect. Remember that a ban carries a follow-up obligation: an authorized administrator must use the Banned Players list and select Unban if the decision is later changed.

Use Unban when the restriction itself is no longer wanted
Unban is the corrective action for an existing ban. It does not serve as a kick, and it does not create a new connection. After unbanning, tell the player to reconnect normally.
Record who made the decision
The game instructions establish what each button does, but they do not provide a moderation-log system. For a shared server, keep your own short record of the account, action, date, and reason outside the game. That makes later Unban decisions less dependent on memory and helps other admins distinguish an intentional ban from a mistaken selection.

The Admin menu is missing
- Confirm that you are connected with the account registered as an administrator, not a second account on the same server.
- Check both possible label paths: Esc → Player Management → Admin and Esc → Admin.
- Reconnect after the owner changes your authorization. If the menu still does not appear, ask the host to verify the registration rather than attempting undocumented console commands.
The player is not listed
- Ask the player to remain connected while you open the list; the live Admin list is intended for connected players.
- Refresh your view by closing and reopening the Admin area.
- Check the spelling and identity of similarly named accounts before selecting an action.
Kick did not solve the problem
Kick permits the player to rejoin, so a reconnect is expected behavior rather than evidence that the button failed. If the account must remain out, use Ban instead and verify that the ban confirmation completed.

The banned player can still connect
- Verify that you banned the intended account in the player list.
- Have the player close the current client and attempt a fresh connection; Unban and Ban affect join eligibility, not an already-open session in the way a kick does.
- If you used
Admin.ini, confirm that the server was stopped before editing and restarted afterward. The file-based method is read at startup. - Check that the entry is in the documented
[BannedPlayers]section and that the account identifier was copied correctly.
The file edit appears to do nothing
Do not edit a running server and expect an immediate result. Stop it, back up the file, save the change, and restart. If the path or syntax no longer matches after an update, revert to the in-game Admin menu and consult the host’s current documentation.
A slash command returns an error
That is consistent with the published vanilla command list: /kick and /ban are not documented vanilla commands. Use the Admin interface rather than repeatedly trying variations of an unsupported command.
Recommended admin checklist
- Join with the authorized administrator account.
- Open Esc → Player Management → Admin, or the direct Admin entry used by your build.
- Confirm the target account before selecting an action.
- Choose Kick for a temporary disconnect or Ban for a persistent block.
- Use Banned Players → Unban when a ban should be removed.
- Do not advertise
/kickor/banas vanilla console commands. - If editing
Admin.ini, stop the server, back up the file, preserve the documented section, and restart before testing. - Keep a separate moderation note for shared-admin servers.
Build and label differences to expect
The core actions are stable, but menu wording can change between game builds and hosting guides. Seeing Admin directly instead of under Player Management is a navigation difference, not a different permission system. Conversely, a menu that lacks both entries is a permission or configuration issue until the server owner verifies otherwise.
The same caution applies to file-based instructions. The Admin.ini path and section shown above come from a hosting guide that labels the route unofficial. Game updates or host migrations can alter file locations, so check the current path before editing and prefer the supported in-game controls for routine moderation.
