In METRIA, character EXP, equipment, Tarot cards, and Awakening or Limit Break are separate progression systems. A practical approach is to improve the character you rely on, equip useful gear, tune Tarot to that character or element, and save advanced investment for characters who qualify. This is a sensible order—not an official or tested resource-efficiency ranking.
How character leveling works
A Pocket Gamer beginner guide says characters gain EXP through quests and fights, with most EXP going to the character that defeats enemies and some rewards shared with the party. If that guide’s description still applies to the current version, switch to the character you want to raise before delivering the final blow. Prioritize upgrades in a practical order
- Raise the character you use most. Progress through quests and fights, and use the final-blow tactic only with the qualification above. Focusing on the character you rely on keeps early effort aligned with your active play.
- Equip useful gear and develop your active party. Open Formation > Gear Board to equip gear. An official notice identifies the Gear Board as the place to equip items and improve power. It does not establish that every slot or enhancement has equal cost or benefit, so use available gear that helps your current lineup rather than assuming a universal upgrade order. - Upgrade Tarot cards that fit your character or element. The same beginner guide describes Tarot effects as character- or element-specific, and says cards can be upgraded; awakening a card raises its level cap. - Consider Awakening and Limit Break when a character is eligible. These are later, roster-dependent investments, not an automatic next step for every character. Where to get gear and enhancement materials
Use farming to meet a specific upgrade need rather than following an assumed best loop. Official notices document Boss Dungeon rewards that include equipment and enhancement materials, and an earlier update lists Omni Gear Upgrader Books through Alchemy levels 1–4. Those notices show sources, but do not establish which source is most efficient now.

What the available guidance does not settle
The sources do not give current level-up costs, comparative resource returns for gear versus Tarot or Awakening, a best farming route, or a character-by-character investment ranking. They also do not confirm whether the EXP distribution described by the 2023-era beginner guide remains unchanged. Adjust priorities to the characters you actually use and the materials you currently need; there is no substantiated universal build order.
