You can control MONOPOLY GO’s alerts, cellular access, and background activity from your phone’s operating-system settings. On iPhone, turn off the game’s cellular switch for Wi‑Fi-only play and use Low Data Mode to pause background work away from Wi‑Fi. On Android, use Data Saver, remove any unrestricted-data exception, and—on Pixel—set a warning or hard limit. Notification permission is also controlled at the device level. These controls reduce interruptions and avoid unwanted mobile-data use, but they can delay event alerts and require you to open the game manually. No authoritative source establishes a universal MONOPOLY GO battery or data percentage, so measure your own phone rather than relying on a fixed claim.
What each setting controls
Notifications, mobile data, and battery drain are related but separate. A notification permission controls alerts. A cellular-data permission controls whether the game can use your carrier connection. Background-data restrictions limit activity while the game is not open. Battery settings affect how often the phone and app can wake, while screen brightness, network conditions, heat, and play time often matter more during an active session.

| Use Wi‑Fi instead of cellular data | Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → MONOPOLY GO → off | Use Data Saver and restrict background data; menus differ by device | Game activity that needs cellular access waits for Wi‑Fi or for you to change the restriction. |

Stop or narrow MONOPOLY GO notifications
MONOPOLY GO push alerts are not primarily managed inside the game. Scopely’s privacy policy says, “If you no longer want to receive them, you can turn them off at the device level.” The exact labels can change with an iOS update, Android version, or manufacturer interface, but the controls below are the standard paths.
iPhone: turn all notifications off
- Open Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Scroll to and select MONOPOLY GO.
- Turn off Allow Notifications.
This prevents the game from displaying banners, sounds, badges, and lock-screen alerts through iOS. You can still open the game and check its current events when you choose.
iPhone: keep alerts but make them quieter
- Go to Settings → Notifications → MONOPOLY GO.
- Leave Allow Notifications enabled.
- Clear only the alert locations you do not want, such as the Lock Screen, Notification Center, or Banners.
- Turn off Sounds if you want visual reminders without an audible interruption, or turn off Badges if the app icon count is the problem.
This approach preserves some timely reminders while reducing the number of times the phone lights up or makes noise. It does not prevent the app from generating a notification; it changes where and how iOS presents it.

Android: disable everything or selected categories
- Open Settings.
- Tap Notifications, then App notifications (the wording varies).
- Select MONOPOLY GO.
- Turn all notifications off, or switch off only the categories you do not want if your phone lists them.
Some Android phones expose separate promotional, event, reminder, or other channels; others offer only a single app-level switch. If categories are present, disabling promotional or event channels can keep essential system behavior while removing the messages that create the most interruptions.
If alerts continue after you switch them off
- Confirm you changed the permission for the installed MONOPOLY GO app, not a similarly named shortcut or a duplicate work-profile copy.
- Check both the app-level switch and any category switches; a category can remain enabled if only another category was changed.
- Review scheduled notification features such as notification summaries or focus modes. These can delay presentation, but they do not replace the app permission.
- Restart the phone after changing permissions if the notification shade still shows an old alert. A previously delivered alert can remain until dismissed even though new alerts are blocked.
Make MONOPOLY GO use Wi‑Fi only on iPhone
iOS lets you deny cellular data to an individual app. Apple states that when cellular data is turned off for an app, that app uses Wi‑Fi only.
Disable cellular access for the game
- Open Settings.
- Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data, depending on regional wording).
- Scroll to the app list and find MONOPOLY GO.
- Turn its cellular-data switch off.
When the switch is off, MONOPOLY GO can connect while the iPhone is on Wi‑Fi but cannot use the carrier network. If you open the game away from Wi‑Fi, online features may fail to load until you reconnect to Wi‑Fi or re-enable the switch. This is a hard per-app Wi‑Fi-only rule, not merely a warning.
Use Low Data Mode for broader cellular savings
- Open Settings → Cellular.
- Tap Cellular Data Options.
- Turn on Low Data Mode.
Apple describes Low Data Mode as pausing automatic updates and background tasks when the iPhone is not connected to Wi‑Fi. It affects more than MONOPOLY GO, so use the individual app switch when you want the game restricted without changing every app’s behavior. Low Data Mode is useful when you sometimes need cellular access but want fewer background transfers.

Read and reset the iPhone usage counter correctly
The app list under Settings → Cellular shows a cellular-usage figure for each app. Read the MONOPOLY GO total before and after a defined play period to see what your phone records. The counter covers the interval since the last statistics reset, not necessarily the current billing cycle.
- Choose a measurement window, such as one normal play session or one day.
- Record the MONOPOLY GO number before starting.
- Play for the defined period, keeping the network condition (Wi‑Fi or cellular) consistent.
- Record the number again and subtract the starting value.
- Reset cellular statistics only when you deliberately begin a new measurement period; resetting erases the comparison baseline for every app.
Restrict MONOPOLY GO mobile data on Android
Android’s labels vary across versions and manufacturers, but Data Saver and per-app background-data controls provide the main levers. Data Saver limits background mobile-data activity and includes an Unrestricted data access list for apps allowed to bypass the restriction.
Turn on Data Saver
- Open Settings.
- Tap Network & internet (or the equivalent network section).
- Select Data Saver.
- Turn Data Saver on.
With Data Saver enabled, Android restricts background mobile-data activity for apps that are not exempted. MONOPOLY GO may update only when you open it or when the phone has Wi‑Fi, and background event information can arrive later.
Remove an unrestricted-data exception
- From the Data Saver screen, open Unrestricted data access (the location can differ).
- Find MONOPOLY GO.
- Turn off its exemption unless you intentionally need background cellular activity.
An exemption can defeat the savings you expected from Data Saver. Keep it enabled only when immediate background delivery is more important than minimizing mobile data.

Set a warning or hard limit on Pixel
Google Pixel phones provide a more explicit measurement and cutoff path:
- Open Settings → Network & internet → SIMs.
- Tap App data usage to see per-app totals.
- Use Data warning & limit to set an alert amount or a hard limit.
- Choose whether Android should warn you at a chosen threshold or automatically turn mobile data off when the limit is reached.
A hard limit protects against overage after the configured amount, but it applies to the mobile connection rather than only MONOPOLY GO. Other apps can consume the allowance before the game reaches the threshold, so review the per-app totals as well.

Some manufacturer interfaces do not offer the same direct “cellular off for this app” switch as iOS. In that case, combine Data Saver with removal of MONOPOLY GO from Unrestricted data access, then use the phone’s App data usage screen to monitor the result. If your device offers a separate Background data or Allow background data usage control under the app’s mobile-data settings, disable that option while leaving foreground access available. The game can then use data when you deliberately open it, subject to the device’s other restrictions.
Reduce battery impact without guessing at a percentage
There is no authoritative MONOPOLY GO-specific battery benchmark in the reviewed material. Battery results change with the phone model, display brightness, radio conditions, play duration, frame rate, heat, battery age, and whether the game remains active. Avoid claims such as “this saves 20 percent”; measure your own device instead.

Cut background wakeups when the game is closed
- Turn off MONOPOLY GO notifications, or keep only the categories you actually use.
- On iPhone, disable the app’s cellular data or enable Low Data Mode when you need broader background restrictions.
- On Android, enable Data Saver and remove MONOPOLY GO from Unrestricted data access.
- Close the game or leave it in the background rather than keeping the display on its game screen when you are not playing.
Combining notification and background-data controls reduces opportunities for the phone to wake the app or move data while it is closed. The trade-off is delayed event information and a greater need to open the game manually.
Reduce the load during an active session
- Prefer a stable Wi‑Fi connection when practical. A weak cellular signal can make the radio work harder, and Apple notes that using 4G/LTE can reduce battery performance in some circumstances.
- Lower screen brightness to a comfortable level and avoid leaving the display on for long idle periods.
- Do not play while the phone is unusually hot; heat can increase drain and trigger performance management.
- Keep the app updated through your normal trusted update process, but remember that background-update behavior is affected by Low Data Mode or Data Saver.
These are practical ways to reduce energy use, not a promise of a fixed result. Screen and radio activity during play can outweigh an occasional notification, so changing alerts alone may have little effect if the game stays open for hours.

Because no universal MONOPOLY GO battery or data figure is established, use a repeatable comparison if you want to know what changes on your phone.
- Define the test. Choose a fixed play duration, such as 30 minutes, and decide whether the game will be open, in the background, or closed.
- Record the starting data total. On iPhone, read MONOPOLY GO under Settings → Cellular. On Pixel, read it under Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → App data usage. Use the closest equivalent on other Android phones.
- Record the starting battery level. Note the percentage and, if available, the phone’s battery-screen entry for MONOPOLY GO.
- Run one condition. For example, play on cellular with notifications on, or play on Wi‑Fi with notifications off. Keep brightness and play behavior as similar as possible.
- Check both totals. Record the new data figure and the battery level after the defined period.
- Repeat under a second condition. Compare Wi‑Fi with cellular, or unrestricted background activity with Data Saver enabled. Repeat at least once before drawing a conclusion.
- Interpret cautiously. Treat the result as your phone’s observation for that session, not a benchmark that applies to every model, network, or player.
| Observation | What it can indicate | What it cannot prove |
|---|---|---|
| Data total rises while the game is closed | Background activity or an allowed notification-related connection may be occurring. | It does not identify a specific feature or prove the same behavior on another phone. |
| Battery drops faster with the game open | Screen, graphics, processor, and radio activity are contributing during play. | It does not isolate the share caused by notifications. |
| Wi‑Fi uses less cellular data | The carrier connection is no longer carrying that session’s traffic. | It does not mean the game uses no data at all; Wi‑Fi traffic is still network traffic. |
| Alerts arrive late after restrictions | Data Saver, Low Data Mode, notification settings, or network availability is delaying background delivery. | It does not necessarily indicate a broken installation. |
Choose a setup based on your priority
| Your priority | Recommended settings | Expected consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Absolute quiet | Turn off MONOPOLY GO notifications on the device. | No new game alerts through the notification system; check events inside the app. |
| Quiet phone, but keep useful reminders | Leave notifications on and disable unwanted categories, sounds, badges, or alert locations. | Selected reminders remain, while fewer alerts interrupt you. |
| No MONOPOLY GO cellular traffic on iPhone | Turn off the app’s switch under Settings → Cellular. | The app waits for Wi‑Fi unless you re-enable cellular access. |
| Lower background data on Android | Turn on Data Saver and remove MONOPOLY GO from Unrestricted data access. | Background updates can wait until Wi‑Fi or until you open the app. |
| Prevent the whole phone from exceeding a mobile allowance | On Pixel, set Data warning & limit; use the closest carrier or Android equivalent elsewhere. | A hard limit can shut off mobile data for all apps when the threshold is reached. |
| Reduce drain while still playing | Use stable Wi‑Fi, lower brightness, avoid heat, and do not leave the display running when idle. | Results vary by device and network; there is no guaranteed percentage reduction. |
Troubleshoot the most common side effects
The game will not load away from home
On iPhone, check whether MONOPOLY GO’s switch under Settings → Cellular is off. On Android, check Data Saver, the app’s unrestricted-data status, and any manufacturer-specific background-data switch. Re-enable cellular or foreground data only when you accept the additional usage.

Notifications are delayed but not completely absent
That behavior is consistent with Low Data Mode, Data Saver, a weak connection, or a notification summary rather than a full permission block. Check the app’s notification permission first, then the data restriction and any focus or summary feature. If you need immediate alerts, allow the relevant notification category and the necessary background-data exception, recognizing that this reduces the savings.
Mobile-data totals still increase
Verify that you are reading the correct measurement period and that the statistics were not reset unexpectedly. On Android, confirm MONOPOLY GO is not listed under Unrestricted data access. On iPhone, confirm the cellular switch is off for the exact app entry. Other apps can also use the same total, so compare the MONOPOLY GO line rather than the phone-wide number.
Recommended Free Tools
The battery still drains quickly
Check the battery screen after a normal day and note whether MONOPOLY GO was active on screen. If the game was open for a long session, brightness, graphics load, radio conditions, heat, and an aging battery may dominate the result. Repeat the controlled comparison with the app closed, then with notifications and background data restricted, instead of assuming a notification setting alone should produce a fixed improvement.
A practical default configuration
For most players who want fewer interruptions without breaking normal play, disable promotional or unnecessary notification categories, keep only the alerts you genuinely use, and enable the platform’s background-data restriction when the game is closed. Choose iPhone’s per-app cellular switch if you want a strict Wi‑Fi-only rule. On Android, use Data Saver, remove any unrestricted-data exception, and set a Pixel warning or limit if controlling the entire mobile allowance matters. Recheck the game after a normal session so you can adjust the balance between timely event information, cellular access, and battery life based on your own phone’s measurements.
