Link an item in chat on keyboard and mouse
- Open chat: Press Enter. The PoE 2 chat reference lists this as the chat shortcut.
- Choose the destination if needed: Ctrl+Enter opens chat for the most recent whisper recipient. Shift+Enter opens Global chat and turns Global on if it is toggled off.
- Insert the item: Hold Ctrl and Alt, then left-click the item. Community reports say this inserts the item link into the chat input. A PoE 2 player discussion and the PoE 2 Wiki chat reference describe the action.
- Review and send: Confirm that the link appears in the draft and that the message is going to the intended channel or recipient before sending.
What to know about the shortcut
The Ctrl+Alt+left-click method is for linking an item in a chat message. It is not an ordinary item-moving click, and it should not be confused with copying item text. The available PoE 2-specific guidance is community-reported, not an official developer instruction.
Does this work on console?
The documented steps here apply to keyboard and mouse. Exact controller inputs for each console and configuration are not established by the available platform-specific evidence, so there is no universal controller sequence to give.
Why older Path of Exile instructions may look similar
A 2012 reply by Robbie_GGG on the official Path of Exile forum describes a similar Ctrl+Alt-click action for the original Path of Exile. That is legacy Path of Exile 1 guidance, not current documentation for PoE 2.
