If Steam is already linked or login fails, check which EA Account owns the connection and try account recovery before unlinking: unlinking can put progress, purchases, and other entitlements at risk.
Link Steam to your EA Account
EA says you only need to link the accounts the first time you play an EA game on Steam. Use the EA Account you intend to use long-term; linking the wrong account can complicate access to progress and purchases.

From EA Account settings
- Sign in to the intended EA Account.
- Open Connected Accounts.
- Select Steam, then select Continue.
- Sign in to Steam when prompted and complete the remaining prompts.
Steam installs the game and notifies you when it is ready, according to EA’s linking instructions.
From the game’s first-play prompt
Launch the EA game through Steam and follow its linking prompt. Sign in to the EA Account you want to keep, then complete the Steam sign-in and confirmation steps. After either method, verify the result by signing in to EA and checking Connected Accounts.

Find out which EA Account is linked
If Steam reports that it is connected already, sign in to each EA Account you can access and inspect Connected Accounts. This identifies the EA Account associated with Steam. If you recognize the old account but cannot sign in, try to recover it before changing the link. EA recommends using an account you will retain long-term; see its linking guidance.
If you have lost game progress, also confirm that you are signed in to the correct Steam account. EA advises checking the platform connection and says progress may become available again after relinking to the original EA Account if you still have access to it. Recovery is not guaranteed if you cannot access that original account. See EA’s lost-progress guidance.

Fix common EA–Steam login and linking errors
“Invalid” or ineligible account
Reset the EA Account password, then confirm that you are signing into the intended EA Account and platform account before trying the linking flow again. EA recommends a password reset for these errors in its linking troubleshooting guidance.
You cannot sign in to an old EA Account
Try signing in to the EA Account on a computer or mobile device. EA may require a password reset or a two-factor authentication code. If you no longer control the email address or cannot complete normal sign-in, use EA’s account recovery route or contact EA Help. Never give another person your password, verification code, or passkey.

You cannot unlink or switch to another EA Account
EA limits how often platform accounts can be switched. Its current unlinking guidance says accounts may be switched up to three times in a rolling year; its linking troubleshooting page also says a link made less than one year ago may not be eligible for unlinking and relinking. These are account-policy rules, not a guarantee that your account qualifies: check the current EA Help information for your account or contact EA Help. If the unlink option is disabled, EA says an account that is disabled, banned, or suspended cannot unlink its platform account. Resolve access or account-action issues through EA rather than using a third-party workaround; see EA’s unlinking troubleshooting page.

Unlinking is not a routine login fix. EA warns that it can remove access to game progress, DLC and expansions, memberships and subscriptions, previous drops and rewards, and in-game purchases. For Steam specifically, entitlements such as rewards, points, and items remain on the EA Account to which Steam was first linked; players cannot move games or personas themselves. If you are trying to merge accounts, EA says to contact support. Read EA’s unlinking information before making a change.

EA’s advice is: “Always link to an account you’ll keep long-term to preserve your progress and purchases.” — Electronic Arts Help, “Unlink from an EA Account,” updated three weeks before October 7, 2026. If you still have access to the original EA Account, recovering it is generally the safer first step than unlinking and attempting to attach Steam elsewhere.

Keep your account secure
- Use EA’s official account recovery and EA Help contact routes when the normal sign-in or linking steps do not work.
- Never share your password, verification codes, or passkeys, including with people offering to recover an account.
- Do not buy access to another person’s account or use third-party recovery services.
