Uplay is now Ubisoft Connect. To link it to Steam, open the Ubisoft game from your Steam library, sign in to the Ubisoft account you want to use, and confirm the connection when prompted. Some Steam releases include a lightweight, embedded Ubisoft Connect component, so a separate launcher installation is not always required.
Use the account that contains your existing game profile, progression, friends, rewards, Units, or console connections. Creating a second account just to pass the login screen can attach the Steam game to the wrong profile.
Quick steps
- Install the Ubisoft game through Steam and wait for Steam to finish updating it.
- Open Steam, select the game, and click Play.
- When Ubisoft Connect appears, choose Log in.
- Sign in to the Ubisoft account you want associated with this Steam account. Create one during first launch only if you have never used Ubisoft services and do not need an older profile.
- Approve or confirm the Steam connection.
- Complete any email verification, age confirmation, terms-of-service prompt, or two-factor authentication request.
- Close and relaunch the game if Steam or Ubisoft Connect does not recognize the connection immediately.

Check which Ubisoft account is linked
Sign in at Ubisoft account information and inspect the connected accounts. Confirm that the displayed Steam account is the one you intend to use before starting the game or changing anything.

If Steam is not listed, you may be signed into a different Ubisoft account, the game may not have completed its first-launch setup, or the title may use a game-specific authentication flow. Account-page labels can vary by game, launcher version, country, and account state.
Do you need to install Ubisoft Connect?
There is no universal yes-or-no answer. Ubisoft says some Steam installations contain a lite embedded version of Ubisoft Connect, allowing the game to handle sign-in without the full desktop application. You still need a Ubisoft account and authentication.

Download the current desktop client from Ubisoft’s official Ubisoft Connect page. Ubisoft describes the service as free to use with a Ubisoft account; Ubisoft+ is optional and is not needed to link a purchased Steam game.
What linking does—and does not—do
It connects identities for authentication
Steam remains the storefront relationship for a game bought on Steam. Ubisoft Connect authenticates the Ubisoft account associated with that game and can provide Ubisoft services such as friends, rewards, and Units.

It does not transfer or merge storefront purchases
Linking does not generally convert a Steam purchase into a transferable Ubisoft Store entitlement, and it does not merge two Ubisoft accounts. Edition, region, and title-specific rules can affect entitlement checks.
Cross-save is game-specific
Account linking, cross-play, and cross-progression are separate features. Ubisoft says availability varies by game and platform in its Ubisoft Connect overview. For example, Ubisoft says linking Steam supports cross-save and cross-progression in Assassin’s Creed Shadows; that is not a promise for every Ubisoft title or platform combination.

Fix common linking problems
The game keeps requesting a Ubisoft login
- Confirm that the Steam title requires Ubisoft account authentication and is fully updated.
- Sign in with the Ubisoft account previously used for the game, rather than creating another one.
- Sign out of Ubisoft Connect, restart Steam and the game, then sign in again.
- Install or update the standalone client from Ubisoft’s download page if the embedded flow is failing.
- Check account information and contact Ubisoft Support if Steam is attached to an inaccessible account.
Steam is linked to the wrong Ubisoft account
- Sign out of Ubisoft Connect.
- Sign back in to the Ubisoft account you actually want.
- Check the account-information page.
- Follow Ubisoft’s official linking and unlinking instructions.
- If the game uses cross-progression or merged saves, ask Ubisoft Support about the consequences before confirming an unlink.
Do not repeatedly unlink and relink or create additional accounts without checking first. Progress can remain on the original Ubisoft account, and entitlements or DLC may not move.
You cannot remember the connected account
Search your email for Ubisoft verification, password-reset, purchase, or game-launch messages. Try the address used for earlier Ubisoft games or console accounts, use Ubisoft’s account-recovery process, and verify the result at account information. Avoid repeated password guesses.

Ubisoft Connect says the game is not owned
- Confirm the purchase appears in the Steam library.
- Launch the title from Steam, not directly from its executable.
- Sign into the intended Ubisoft account and restart both applications.
- Verify the game files in Steam to address incomplete or damaged installation files.
- Check the linked-account page and confirm the edition and region.
- Contact Ubisoft or Steam Support with the Steam receipt and Ubisoft account email if authentication still fails.
The link button is missing
The title may use an embedded login flow, the account may already be linked, or you may be signed into the wrong Ubisoft account. Launch the game once from Steam and verify the account-information page instead of relying on a particular button label.
You changed Steam accounts
Linking is not a license-transfer mechanism. A different Steam account may need its own purchase and does not automatically inherit the first account’s game access or progression. Check Ubisoft’s current support instructions before changing an existing relationship.

Use Ubisoft’s account-linking support article for the current procedure rather than relying on an assumed menu path. Ubisoft’s documented cross-progression systems limit participation to one account per participating platform, so do not assume that one Steam account can be freely switched among multiple Ubisoft accounts.
Unlinking may leave progress on the original Ubisoft account, prevent some relationships from being relinked, or leave DLC and other entitlements unavailable on the replacement account. Ubisoft’s cross-progression FAQ explains that merged progress can remain on the Ubisoft account even after relinking changes.
