Use Larix Broadcaster to publish a phone camera feed to your configured Wowza destination, then check ingest and viewer playback separately.

To live stream from a phone with Larix and Wowza, use Larix Broadcaster to encode and publish your phone’s camera feed to the RTMP address and stream name configured for your Wowza destination. Then verify the incoming stream at Wowza and test viewer playback separately. The exact address, application, and stream name are specific to your Wowza setup; do not use a sample endpoint as if it were universal.

What you need before you start

  • A phone supported by Larix Broadcaster: Softvelum lists iOS 16.0 or later and Android 7.0 or later. Device encoder support and advanced features may vary. See Larix Broadcaster platform information.
  • Larix Broadcaster installed on the phone.
  • A configured Wowza destination and its connection details. For Wowza Streaming Engine, you need the server address, port, application name, and stream name. For hosted Wowza Video, use the connection details generated by that workflow.
  • A reliable internet connection at the place and time you plan to stream. Test on the same network before going live.

Larix is the phone-side encoder; Wowza is the receiving destination. The end-to-end Wowza tutorial demonstrates Larix publishing to a locally hosted Streaming Engine and uses Larix Player to check HLS playback. It is useful for understanding the workflow, but its interface may differ from current product screens: Wowza’s Larix and Streaming Engine tutorial.

Get the right Wowza connection details

For Wowza Streaming Engine

Wowza documents the general RTMP endpoint shape as rtmp://[address]:[port]/[application]. The stream name is supplied separately in the publishing connection. Port 1935 is the documented default RTMP streaming port, not a guarantee that every installation uses it. Your server may use a custom address, port, application, stream name, or security configuration. Check the actual instance’s connection settings rather than copying a generic example. See Wowza’s Streaming Engine connection URL guidance.

For Wowza Video

Wowza Video is a hosted product with its own live-stream setup and encoder connection details. Follow the destination’s setup workflow and use the values it provides; do not substitute Streaming Engine sample values. See Wowza Video live-stream setup and Wowza Video encoder connection guidance.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Set up Larix and start the phone stream

  1. Create a connection in Larix. Add a new connection and choose RTMP for the documented Larix-to-Streaming Engine workflow.
  2. Enter the destination URL and stream name. Use the server/application URL and the stream name or key expected by your Wowza application. Larix treats the server/application URL and stream name as connection information; the exact fields and labels can vary by app version. Keep the stream key and any credentials private. Larix’s connection documentation is at Larix documentation.
  3. Choose compatible encoding. H.264 video with AAC audio is a common compatible path: Larix identifies these as standard encoding choices, and Wowza lists H.264/AAC-family RTMP inputs. Use settings supported by the configured Wowza destination. See Wowza’s supported encoders and codecs.
  4. Set resolution and bitrate for the connection you have. Larix’s FAQ gives the following resolution-based bitrate targets. They are vendor guidance, not a promise that a cellular or Wi-Fi connection can sustain them.
Resolution Larix suggested bitrate
2160p 4500 Kbps
1080p 3000 Kbps
720p 2000 Kbps
540p 1500 Kbps
480p 1000 Kbps
360p 700 Kbps
288p 500 Kbps
144p 300 Kbps

Larix says its HEVC guidance is half the listed bitrate, and that 50 fps or higher multiplies the listed target by 1.6. These are Larix’s FAQ rules; check that the chosen codec is accepted by your destination. If the picture drops frames or the connection struggles, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again. The FAQ also describes an adaptive-bitrate option for worsening network conditions. See Larix’s bitrate and network FAQ.

  1. Start streaming in Larix. Confirm the connection status in the app. If it does not connect, check the address, port, application, stream name, network reachability, and any source-security settings in Wowza.
  2. Confirm Wowza ingest. Inspect the Wowza application or source monitor and verify that the incoming feed appears. A phone reporting that it is connected does not, by itself, prove that the destination is receiving a playable stream.

Test playback as a viewer

Ingest and playback are separate checks. Once Wowza receives the source, use the viewer URL and delivery protocol configured for the application. Wowza explains that a playback URL is built from the server, application, and stream name; the default application instance may be implicit. The older tutorial demonstrates HLS playback in Larix Player, but use the URL appropriate to your current configuration rather than assuming its sample will work on your server. See Wowza’s URL guidance and the Larix-to-Wowza tutorial.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

RTMP or SRT: choose a matching path

RTMP is the documented Larix-to-Streaming Engine example in this workflow. Larix also supports SRT publishing, including Caller/Push, Listen, and Rendezvous modes. SRT is not a drop-in replacement for an RTMP URL: the selected Wowza destination must be configured to accept SRT, and its connection details must match the chosen SRT mode. The available SRT input options can differ by Wowza product and deployment. Larix protocol support is described at Softvelum’s Larix page; Wowza’s input specifications are at Wowza’s codec and encoder documentation.

Troubleshoot common failures

Larix cannot connect

  • Recheck the destination address, port, application, and stream name against the settings for the specific Wowza instance.
  • Confirm that the phone can reach the server and that any configured source security or credentials permit the connection.
  • For Streaming Engine, do not assume port 1935 if the installation uses a custom port.

Wowza does not show an incoming source

  • Verify that Larix is publishing to the intended application and stream name.
  • Check the application or source monitor in Wowza and review the destination’s connection settings.
  • Confirm the chosen protocol matches the input configured at the destination; an SRT publisher will not work against an RTMP-only input.

The source arrives, but viewers cannot play it

  • Check the playback URL separately from the ingest URL. Build it using the configured server, application, stream name, and delivery protocol.
  • Test with the playback method enabled for that Wowza application. The tutorial’s HLS example is not a universal playback URL.

The picture stutters or drops frames

  • Run a short test from the actual streaming location and network.
  • Reduce resolution or bitrate if the link cannot sustain the selected target; Larix notes that worsening network conditions can cause frame loss with RTMP/RTSP.
  • Consider Larix’s adaptive-bitrate option where available, and verify the resulting stream at Wowza and in playback.

Practical phone setup and content checks

A tripod or adjustable mount can help keep the phone framed steadily for a hands-free broadcast. An external microphone or power bank may help for some devices or longer sessions, but these are optional accessories, not Larix or Wowza requirements. Check that a mount fits the phone and that audio accessories and charging connections are compatible with its ports.

Or let it run in the cloud

Larix and Wowza are for sending a live phone camera feed. If your goal instead is to keep uploaded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file rather than going live from a camera. It sends to YouTube only.
