To change the account Minecraft for Windows uses, sign out and back in through the Xbox app instead. These are separate sign-in surfaces, so use the steps that match where you see the account.
Choose the sign-out that matches your goal

Sign out of the Minecraft Launcher
- Open Minecraft Launcher.
- Select the dropdown at the top left that shows your gamertag.
- Choose Log out.
- To sign back in, select Microsoft Login. To use another account, choose Sign in with a different account.
The Launcher’s logout does not by itself switch the account Minecraft for Windows uses. Minecraft Help’s Launcher instructions describe this Launcher-specific route.

Switch the account used by Minecraft for Windows
Minecraft’s Windows guidance says the game automatically signs in with the gamertag associated with the Windows Store purchase. To use a different gamertag, switch accounts in the Xbox app:
- Open the Xbox app.
- Select Profile and settings, then Sign out.
- Open Profile and settings again and select Sign in.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account and gamertag you want to use.
- Launch Minecraft for Windows.
If the game still displays the old gamertag, check which account is signed in to the Xbox app, then restart Minecraft. The Xbox app route is the one described in Minecraft’s Windows sign-in guidance; it is not the same as logging out of the Launcher.

Use Windows sign-out only to end the PC session
To sign out of your Windows user session, select Start, then your user picture or the Accounts icon, and choose Sign out. This closes open applications, so save your work first. It is not a game-only logout or a reliable substitute for switching the Xbox app account. See Microsoft’s Windows sign-out instructions.
Use Microsoft’s remote sign-out for account security
If you suspect someone else has access to your Microsoft account, Microsoft provides Sign out everywhere under Advanced security options. Microsoft says the remote sign-out can take up to 24 hours and excludes Xbox consoles. This is a security action for account sessions, not a quick way to switch Minecraft accounts. If Minecraft still will not sign in
- Check that the Microsoft account you use owns the game, and confirm the profile photo, gamertag, and Microsoft email shown when the Xbox account page appears.
- If those details are wrong, choose Sign in with a different account.
- For Minecraft sign-in or service connection problems, sign out and back in; Minecraft says this can help reset authentication for Marketplace, downloadable content, and other game services.
- Minecraft Help notes that signing in to the Xbox app with the account that owns the game before launching Minecraft can sometimes resolve sign-in errors.

The Launcher, Xbox app, Windows session, and Microsoft remote sign-out each affect a different scope. The official instructions do not specify a single Minecraft for Windows build or guarantee that menu labels are identical in every release, so if a label differs, look for the corresponding profile or account menu.
