To loop a prerecorded church service in a YouTube livestream, enable Loop on the recording’s Media Source in OBS Studio, then stream OBS to YouTube. The repeat must happen in the encoder feeding the live broadcast; YouTube’s watch-page Loop control only repeats playback for an individual viewer.
Set up a looping recording in OBS
- Confirm livestream access. YouTube requires the channel to be verified and not to have had livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance.
- Create or choose an OBS scene. In the Sources area, add a Media Source and select the local recording. OBS documents common formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM. In the source properties, enable Loop; it is off by default. OBS says this setting plays the file again after playback completes. See OBS Media Sources.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, obtain the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in OBS’s streaming settings—or select YouTube as the service if using OBS’s service setup. YouTube describes the key as an address-and-password-like credential for the encoder: do not share it, and reset it if compromised. See YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
- Preview, then go live. Start the OBS stream and check the Live Control Room preview before making the broadcast public or starting the scheduled service. Confirm the picture, sound and stream destination rather than assuming that a playing file means viewers can see and hear it.
Loop a playlist instead of one service file
For multiple recordings, OBS provides a VLC Video source with a Loop Playlist option. VLC must be installed for the source to be available; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Configure and test the playlist before the broadcast. The single-file Media Source uses Loop; the playlist workflow uses VLC’s playlist source and Loop Playlist. The options are documented in OBS Media Sources.
Prepare and monitor the broadcast
YouTube recommends preparing an encoder stream in advance, checking the Live Control Room preview, verifying access from the channel and watch pages and on mobile, monitoring audio and video, and checking local archive files. Its tips recommend setting up at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event. Follow the current YouTube live streaming tips for the full preparation checklist.
OBS’s loop setting repeats the file inside the outgoing encoder feed; it does not establish that the computer, OBS or network will remain available unattended. Keep the machine and internet connection running for the broadcast and monitor the stream. A local file looping correctly cannot protect the live feed if the computer or connection stops.

Know what YouTube’s Loop and DVR controls do
Viewer-side Loop is not a livestream loop
YouTube’s watch-page Loop command repeats a video or playlist for one viewer. It does not send a repeating recording as a live broadcast. To repeat the recording in the live feed, enable looping in OBS’s source. See YouTube’s instructions for looping videos or playlists.
DVR does not guarantee an archive
YouTube DVR lets viewers pause, rewind and resume during a live stream, but DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers also cannot seek back to before the stream began. Disabling DVR does not prevent an entire-stream recording from appearing after the stream once it is available. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Check permissions before rebroadcasting
The church or other provider is responsible for having the rights needed for livestream content, including music licensing rights. Confirm that permissions for the recording cover rebroadcasting it live and the intended territory; permission to record or play music in a service should not be assumed to include every online use. See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
