In OBS, add your ASMR recording as a Media Source and enable Loop in that source’s properties. To avoid audio playing twice, keep the recording’s sound on one intended audio path: check that desktop or application capture is not also picking it up. Then listen through the file’s ending and beginning in a test stream. YouTube’s watch-page Loop control repeats playback for a viewer; it does not make an encoder repeat a live stream.
Set the video to loop in OBS
- Add the recording: In your OBS scene, add a Media Source, select the intended local video file, and confirm it plays. OBS lists common formats including MP4 and MOV; format support can depend on the installed environment. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Enable the repeat control: Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. OBS describes this property as making the file play again after playback completes.
- Use the activation setting only if needed: Restart playback when source becomes active restarts the file when its source is in the current scene and visible. It is not the loop switch. Option names and placement can vary by OBS version, so verify the labels in your installed version.
Do not use YouTube’s watch-page Loop option for this job. That control repeats a video or playlist for the person watching; it does not configure the encoder sending your live broadcast.
Prevent the same audio from reaching the stream twice
A duplicate or echoing recording can happen when its sound reaches the stream through more than one active capture path. For example, OBS may capture the Media Source audio and also capture desktop or application audio that includes the same playback. The official OBS documentation describes Media Source audio controls, but does not identify a universal cause or one-click fix for duplicate audio.
- Play the Media Source and watch the OBS audio mixer. Identify the channel that carries the recording’s sound.
- Check whether desktop audio or an application-audio capture is also active and includes that same recording. If so, remove that duplicate route from the stream mix or adjust the capture so the recording is present through only the intended path.
- Listen on the stream output, not only through local monitoring. Monitoring settings can make the operator hear audio differently from what viewers receive.
- Test across the file boundary: listen to the last seconds, the transition, and the first seconds after the loop. If the recording itself has silence, a click, overlapping sound, or an abrupt change at that point, correct the media file or edit it. The available OBS guidance does not establish a setting that guarantees a seamless loop or a particular crossfade method.
Test the live broadcast before relying on the loop
- In YouTube Studio, open the channel’s Live Control Room and use the encoder setup information to connect OBS with the stream URL and stream key provided there. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it or share it. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the connection workflow.
- Start a test broadcast, using private or unlisted visibility where suitable, and check both audio and video from the viewer side. YouTube recommends test streaming and continuously monitoring stream quality in its live streaming tips.
- Listen for doubled sound, silence, clicks, or a volume change during normal playback and at the loop point. Watch for frozen video or a source that fails to restart.
- Only switch to the intended audience setting after the test passes. Keep monitoring the stream while it runs.
Check channel eligibility and rights
YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days; it also says streamers must be at least 16. Confirm the current requirements for your account before scheduling a broadcast.

Having a recording file does not by itself establish that you have rights to stream it. YouTube says live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, and may interrupt or terminate a stream when identified material remains. Even licensed third-party material can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and ensure the necessary rights, including applicable music rights, are in place.
What the 12-hour DVR limit means
YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. That qualification concerns viewers’ ability to pause or rewind the live stream; it is not a limit on how long an OBS Media Source can repeat a file.

Troubleshooting OBS loop and audio problems
