How to Loop a Video File on YouTube Live with VLC in India

Use VLC to repeat a local video, then send its playback to YouTube Live through a compatible encoder. Here are the steps, settings, and checks for creators in India.

You can loop a video for YouTube Live by playing it repeatedly in VLC and sending that playback through a YouTube-compatible encoder. VLC is the player in this setup; YouTube’s encoder guide does not identify VLC itself as a verified encoder. You’ll need an eligible YouTube channel, a computer running VLC and the encoder, and a stable upload connection.

Before you start: check channel eligibility

Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. If live streaming has not been enabled before, activation can take time, so check this ahead of your planned broadcast. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours in advance and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event.

The reviewed YouTube guidance describes the same general encoder workflow for creators in India as elsewhere; it does not establish a separate India-only process. In practice, test the stability and upload capacity of the connection at the location where the stream will run.

YouTube live streaming tips

What you need

  • The video file you want to play, stored on the computer that will run the stream.
  • VLC to play and repeat the file.
  • A YouTube-compatible encoder that can capture VLC playback and send it to YouTube Live. YouTube describes encoders as software or hardware, but its guide does not verify VLC as an encoder.
  • Your YouTube stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room. Treat the key as private: it authorizes an encoder to send content to your stream.
  • An upload connection capable of sustaining the bitrate you choose, with headroom for normal network variation.

How to loop the video and send it to YouTube Live

  1. Open the file in VLC and enable repeat. Use the repeat or loop control shown by your installed VLC version. Labels and controls can differ by version and operating system, so check the interface you have rather than relying on a fixed menu path. Let the file reach its end and confirm it starts again; listen and watch for an unwanted gap or jump at the restart.
  2. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Choose Go Live, then create a stream or select an existing one. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Keep the key out of public view.
  3. Set up the encoder. Add the YouTube stream URL and key in the encoder’s streaming settings. Configure it to capture VLC’s playback, including the audio, and select video and audio settings supported by both the source and encoder. YouTube’s encoder workflow is documented, but its reviewed guide does not establish VLC as a verified direct-to-YouTube encoder.
  4. Start a private test and inspect the preview. Start the encoder and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room. Set the test stream to unlisted if you do not want viewers to find it. Confirm picture, sound, and the loop restart before starting a public stream.
  5. Go live and monitor stream health. Start the stream from Live Control Room when the preview looks right. Keep an eye on stream health and the local computer and network while it runs.
  6. End the stream cleanly. End it in YouTube or Live Control Room as appropriate, then stop the encoder from sending content. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived.

YouTube’s encoder guide

Encoder settings: resolution, bitrate, and keyframes

YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP, for general ingestion. Its current general guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 for video, AAC or MP3 for audio, constant bitrate encoding, and frame rates up to 60 fps. Choose only formats the encoder and source support.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Setting YouTube guidance
Ingestion protocol RTMPS recommended for general ingestion
Video codec H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1
Audio codec AAC or MP3
Bitrate mode Constant bitrate
Frame rate Up to 60 fps
Keyframe interval Recommended: 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds
H.264, 1080p at 30 fps Recommended bitrate: 14 Mbps
H.264, 720p at 30 fps Recommended bitrate: 8 Mbps

The bitrate figures are YouTube recommendations, not a promise that your connection can sustain them. Match the output to the source and your encoder, and test using the actual video and audio. Leave upload bandwidth headroom: an unstable or interrupted connection can disrupt the stream.

Copyright and suitability of the video

Make sure you have the rights needed to broadcast the video and its audio on YouTube. A file playing successfully in VLC does not establish that you may stream it. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance recommends testing and monitoring the broadcast; consult YouTube’s current policies for copyright and other restrictions before going live, particularly if the file includes music or material made by someone else.

Common problems and fixes

  • No preview appears: Confirm the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key belong to the selected Live Control Room stream. Check that the key was entered correctly without exposing it publicly.
  • Video appears but has no sound: Check that the encoder is capturing VLC’s audio output as well as its picture, then verify audio in the Live Control Room preview.
  • The loop has a pause or abrupt jump: Test the restart locally in VLC before streaming. The loop control and its behavior can vary by installed version; choose a file with an ending and beginning that work together if a clean transition matters.
  • Stream health reports problems or the feed drops: Check upload stability and whether the chosen bitrate is sustainable. Lower the output bitrate or resolution if needed, then test again with bandwidth headroom.
  • The stream is not available to start: Recheck channel verification and whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction from the past 90 days. If live streaming is being enabled for the first time, allow time for activation.

Local VLC setup or a cloud loop?

With local playback and a software encoder, your computer must keep playing the file and sending the stream. YouTube also lists Gyre as an option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; its current features, pricing, and availability were not verified here.
