To loop a prerecorded video as a YouTube Live broadcast, send it repeatedly from a playout setup or encoder to YouTube Live. The ordinary loop control on a YouTube video only repeats playback for a viewer; it does not create a live broadcast. For a do-it-yourself setup, use OBS on a computer that can stay powered on and connected. To avoid keeping a home computer running, StreamNeo plays uploaded videos from the cloud.
What you need to make a prerecorded video live
A YouTube upload and a live broadcast are different. A live broadcast needs an ongoing video-and-audio feed delivered by an encoder or hosted playout service. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming, and its Live Streaming API documents a 24/7 live-feed scenario. The repeated playback happens in the playout setup; YouTube receives that feed as a live stream. YouTube’s live-streaming overview and Live Streaming API documentation describe these roles.
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- A prerecorded video or playlist that you have the rights to use.
- For the local method below, OBS, a computer that stays on, and a stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream.
- A YouTube stream key, which connects your encoder to the broadcast. Treat it like a password: do not share it or publish it.
YouTube states that streamers must be at least 16. Check the current YouTube Live Control Room instructions for the latest eligibility and interface details; labels and setup screens can change.
Loop the video with OBS and YouTube Live
The exact OBS controls can vary by version and source type. Use the current OBS interface and its documentation for the specific loop option rather than relying on menu labels that may have changed. The workflow is to prepare a YouTube broadcast, configure OBS to repeat your source, connect OBS with the stream key, and verify the live output.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Prepare the video. Put the file in a stable location on the computer. If you are using a playlist, check that every item plays correctly and that the intended order is clear. Keep the computer from sleeping while the stream is running.
- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio, go to Create > Go live, then follow the current Live Control Room flow to create or select a broadcast. Choose the encoder option if prompted. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the platform-side process.
- Copy the stream key into OBS. In YouTube’s stream settings, copy the stream key and enter it in OBS’s stream configuration for YouTube. Do not show the key on screen or send it to anyone. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement.
- Add the playback source in OBS and enable repeat. Add the prerecorded file or playlist as a source using the current OBS controls, then enable its loop or repeat behavior. Confirm the source restarts at the end; for a playlist, confirm playback advances through the items and repeats as intended. Do a short private or unlisted test if you need to verify the full handoff before a public broadcast.
- Set basic stream settings. If you are unsure which starting settings suit your connection and hardware, run OBS’s Auto Configuration Wizard. Use a video resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain. OBS notes that a rising dropped-frames counter with a yellow or red connection indicator means the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate; lower the bitrate or resolve the network problem before relying on the stream. See OBS’s stream connection troubleshooting guidance.
- Start the encoder, then verify YouTube receives it. Start streaming in OBS and check the Live Control Room for the incoming feed and stream health. Start or confirm the broadcast there according to the current YouTube workflow. Monitor both OBS and YouTube rather than assuming the stream remains healthy just because playback continues locally.
Keep the computer and connection available
With a local encoder, the computer must remain powered, awake, and connected for the feed to continue. Prevent automatic sleep, keep OBS open, and avoid relying on a Wi-Fi connection that regularly drops. A local setup gives you direct control over the encoder and files, but an interruption to the machine or network can interrupt the live feed.
Use appropriate settings, not protocol-specific rules
There is no single bitrate or resolution that suits every source, encoder, and connection. Start with OBS’s configuration guidance, then test stability at the quality you plan to use. YouTube’s HLS ingestion documentation is for encoder vendors using a particular protocol; its M2TS, H.264 or HEVC, AAC, playlist, and segment requirements are not general OBS settings. Do not apply those HLS-specific requirements to an ordinary OBS setup unless you are actually implementing that protocol. See YouTube’s ingestion protocol documentation.

Protect the channel and the content
YouTube says, “All content in live streams must adhere to our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.” Review its live-streaming policies and make sure you have permission for every video, song, image, and other element in the loop. A live format does not grant rights to material you do not own or license. Copyright claims, restrictions, and other outcomes depend on the content and applicable rights; do not assume that a prerecorded video is safe to rebroadcast simply because it has already been uploaded.
YouTube documents limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. Those limits matter if you run multiple simultaneous broadcasts; they are not a requirement to create multiple streams for one looping video. The API also describes binding two broadcasts to one stream as a way to create a separate broadcast while a 24/7 feed continues, but that is an API use case, not a step needed for a single loop. See the stream resource documentation.

Troubleshoot a loop that will not stay live
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Confirm OBS is streaming, the correct broadcast is selected, and the stream key matches the one currently shown in YouTube Studio. If the key was reset or exposed, replace it in OBS.
- The video ends instead of repeating: Check the source’s repeat setting and verify the file or playlist reaches its end cleanly. Test the loop locally before going live.
- Dropped frames keep increasing: OBS identifies an unstable connection or insufficient capacity for the selected bitrate as common indicators. Lower the bitrate, use a more reliable connection, or reduce other network traffic, then confirm the dropped-frames counter stabilizes.
- The stream stops when you leave: A local encoder depends on the computer and network. Disable sleep, keep OBS running, and check power and connectivity; otherwise choose a hosted playout setup.
- The live stream is restricted or unavailable: Check channel verification, live-stream eligibility and restrictions, the minimum age requirement, and YouTube’s policies. Review the Live Control Room notice for the specific issue.
- The archived video is incomplete or missing: Do not assume a long-running broadcast will be archived in full. Archive behavior for uninterrupted streams is not guaranteed here; check YouTube’s current guidance if you need a recording, and keep your source files independently.
Cost and planning for a 24/7 stream
A local OBS setup avoids a hosted-pl a yout subscription, but it relies on your own computer, electricity, internet connection, and time spent monitoring and recovering interruptions. Cloud playout trades that ongoing home operation for a service charge. StreamNeo’s billing options are:
- Daily: $0.99 per day
- Weekly: $2.99 per week
- Monthly: $9.99 per month
- 6 months: $49.99 for 6 months
- Yearly: $89.99 a year
Plans can be cancelled any time. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact StreamNeo support. Estimate local upload time with the upload-time calculator, and compare ongoing home-computer costs with the cloud vs PC cost calculator.
