Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Use FFmpeg’s concat demuxer to play a compatible list of video files in order, and set -stream_loop -1 before the playlist input to repeat it indefinitely. Send the output to the stream URL and key shown in YouTube Live Control Room, then confirm the preview and stream health before relying on it. The command below is a starting template, not a tested universal preset; source files, server capacity, and YouTube’s current stream settings all matter.
What you need before you start
- A Linux server with FFmpeg installed and enough CPU and upload capacity for the output you choose.
- Video files readable by the account that will run FFmpeg.
- A YouTube stream created or scheduled in Live Control Room, with its current stream URL and key.
- Permission to broadcast every video and audio asset in the playlist.
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the stream URL and stream key displayed for the stream. Treat the key as a password: do not put it in public scripts, screenshots, logs, or shared shell history. Reset it in Studio if it is compromised. Use RTMPS if YouTube offers it for the stream and your FFmpeg build supports it. YouTube stream settings · YouTube encoder setup · YouTube RTMPS guidance
Prepare an ordered playlist
Create a text file such as /srv/videos/playlist.txt, with one entry per video in playback order:
file '/srv/videos/intro.mp4'
file '/srv/videos/main-01.mp4'
file '/srv/videos/main-02.mp4'
Use paths that exist on the server and are readable by the FFmpeg process. The concat demuxer works most straightforwardly when all entries have compatible streams, including codecs and time bases. Differences in stream characteristics can break concatenation; inaccurate duration metadata can cause timestamp gaps or artifacts. Inspect the files with ffprobe or an equivalent workflow and test the playlist before a scheduled broadcast. The playlist syntax and compatibility limits are documented in the FFmpeg demuxer documentation.

Create the YouTube encoder stream
- In YouTube Studio, create a live stream or schedule one and select the encoder workflow.
- Open the stream in Live Control Room and copy the exact stream URL and key currently shown there.
- Keep the key private. Use the current values and the format expected by your encoder; do not assume a generic ingest address. YouTube presents server URL and key fields, while FFmpeg output examples may combine them into an output URL.
- If choosing RTMPS, confirm your FFmpeg build supports it. Connection or SSL errors can result from an incorrect protocol, server spelling, port, or missing RTMPS support.
See YouTube’s encoder setup and RTMPS guidance for the current stream values and connection requirements.
Run FFmpeg with an infinite playlist loop
Replace the final quoted output value with the correct output URL format for the stream URL and key shown in Live Control Room. Keep credentials out of shared scripts and logs.

-rereads the input at real-time rate.-stream_loop -1repeats the concat input indefinitely; it is an input option and must appear before the input it applies to. FFmpeg defines-1as infinite looping. See the FFmpeg command-line documentation.-f concatselects the concat demuxer.-safe 0permits absolute paths in the playlist, so use it only with a playlist file you control.- The example encodes H.264 video and AAC audio, with a 30 fps output rate and a 60-frame GOP—two seconds at 30 fps. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. It recommends CBR for RTMP/RTMPS encoder streams. See YouTube encoder settings and protocol guidance.
- The example’s
10Mvideo bitrate is illustrative, not a universal YouTube setting. For H.264 at 1080p/30, YouTube lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended; at 720p/30, it lists 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended. These are YouTube recommendations, not a measurement of your server’s upload capacity. Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain and check stream health. - This command does not scale or normalize source files. If dimensions, frame rates, audio layouts, codecs, or bitrate differ, adapt the output and test it. Stream-copying may reduce CPU use when every media stream is compatible with YouTube and with the other inputs, but mismatches can cause failure; re-encode when needed.
Preview, go live, and stop the broadcast
- Start FFmpeg and wait for the incoming feed preview in Live Control Room.
- Check the preview, audio and video, and stream health. For a scheduled stream, follow the Live Control Room prompt to go live; auto-start and auto-stop settings can change the exact flow.
- When finished, end the stream in YouTube and stop FFmpeg cleanly.
YouTube advises testing with representative audio and movement. Its streaming tips recommend preparing an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before a scheduled start. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the current instructions and the settings for your stream. YouTube streaming tips · YouTube encoder setup

Pre-rendered combined video or another encoder workflow
Consider preparing one combined file when clips need transitions, overlays, filtering, or normalization, or when their streams are too different for straightforward concatenation. That adds a preparation and encoding step. Which route is best depends on your files and whether you need to change the playlist while streaming; the concat documentation does not establish a universal winner.
Choose based on source compatibility, visual changes needed between clips, available CPU for encoding, how often the playlist changes, and how you will monitor and recover the process. Neither workflow guarantees uninterrupted availability.

Troubleshoot common failures
YouTube shows no preview
- Recheck the exact stream URL and key in Live Control Room, including the output URL format used by your FFmpeg command.
- Confirm network access, the output format, and whether the installed FFmpeg build supports the selected protocol.
- For RTMPS or SSL errors, verify the protocol, server spelling, port, and RTMPS support in the build, following YouTube’s RTMPS guidance.
The playlist fails or glitches at a clip boundary
- Check that every path in the concat list is correct and readable by the process account.
- Compare codecs, time bases, and other stream characteristics across the files. Re-encode or prepare a combined file if they are incompatible.
- Check duration metadata; the concat demuxer uses durations to adjust timestamps, and inaccurate values can create artifacts. See the FFmpeg demuxer documentation.
Stream health is poor or frames are dropped
Check upload capacity and CPU headroom. Reduce bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain the output, or reduce encoding load if the server cannot keep up. Compare your configuration with YouTube’s encoder recommendations and monitor Live Control Room’s health indicators.
The stream ends unexpectedly
Check whether FFmpeg is still running, its logs, server uptime, network stability, and YouTube’s stream duration and configuration. The FFmpeg command loops media; it does not by itself restart a crashed process or restore a dropped connection. If you need unattended recovery, plan and test a separate supervisor or restart mechanism rather than assuming the command guarantees it.
