To show restaurant menu or kitchen footage continuously as a YouTube Live broadcast, send the prepared video to YouTube through an encoder workflow and make the source repeat there. For a viewer, YouTube Live DVR may allow pausing and rewinding, but that is not the same as looping.
What “loop” means on YouTube Live
YouTube documents Loop for regular videos and Repeat for videos on TVs or game consoles, as well as repetition for playlists. Those are viewer controls for videos and playlists; YouTube’s help does not document an equivalent control that restarts an active livestream. YouTube’s Loop videos and playlists help page explains the supported controls.
Autoplay is different, too: YouTube describes it as starting another related video after a video ends. It does not make an active livestream repeat. YouTube’s autoplay help page covers that feature.
Can viewers rewind a restaurant livestream?
If DVR is enabled for the broadcast, viewers can pause, rewind, and resume within the live stream. They cannot seek to a point before the broadcast began. DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours; Apple TV, AirPlay, and older app versions can also have lower rewind limits. If DVR is disabled, viewers cannot seek backward while the stream is live, although a recording may be available afterward. These limits are described in YouTube’s live DVR help page.

How to broadcast a repeating restaurant video
This is a creator-side setup: prepare the footage so it repeats, then send the resulting feed to YouTube Live using an encoder. YouTube’s workflow supports software encoding; it recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, not as a universal requirement. For its setup guidance, see YouTube’s encoder setup and live stream guidance.
- Prepare the video source. Assemble the menu and kitchen clips in the order you want viewers to see them. Set the playback software or production workflow to repeat the playlist or rendered video. Check the transition from the final frame back to the first: an abrupt cut, blank frame, or audio pop will recur every time the source loops.
- Create or configure the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Set up the live stream there and locate the stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes entering these details in the encoder.
- Configure the encoder. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the encoder, select the prepared repeating source, and choose output settings that your upload connection and production can sustain. YouTube advises using settings appropriate to the internet connection. The cited guidance does not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval for every restaurant setup, so follow the current recommendations shown for your stream and encoder rather than applying a single number to all connections.
- Start sending the feed and check Live Control Room. Start the encoder output, then confirm that YouTube receives the feed and that the preview, picture, and audio look right. Watch for dropped frames, connection warnings, or an unintended pause at the loop point before relying on the stream for service hours.
- Monitor the source and stream. A repeating file can continue playing while the connection to YouTube fails, so check both source playback and stream health. If you change the source, verify the new loop and audio again in the live preview.
Rights, music, and restaurant privacy
YouTube’s livestream terms make the provider responsible for having the necessary rights to the material streamed, including relevant music and audiovisual content. Confirm that you have permission for the footage, background music, graphics, menu photography, and any third-party material included. The same footage can raise practical privacy concerns if customers or staff are identifiable; consent and applicable legal obligations depend on the circumstances and jurisdiction. YouTube’s terms are at YouTube Terms of Service.

Choosing a creator workflow
For a one-off or closely supervised broadcast, a software encoder and a computer running the source may be enough. Consider whether your setup can repeat the prepared video cleanly, keep a stable connection, and let you monitor stream health. A professional-grade hardware encoder is an option for higher-production needs, but YouTube does not say every prerecorded loop requires one. If the computer or home connection must not be responsible for keeping the broadcast running, a cloud service is another approach.
