A large Indian audience does not automatically produce a particular YouTube RPM, and there is no official universal RPM rate for Indian viewers. RPM is creator revenue per 1,000 views after YouTube’s share, including views that earned no ad. To find the cause on your channel, compare monetized playbacks and ad impressions with views, then check geography, revenue sources, monetization settings, and content suitability in YouTube Studio.
Why a 24/7 stream can have low RPM
RPM counts views that did not earn an ad
YouTube defines RPM as revenue per 1,000 views after its revenue share. It can include ads, YouTube Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers; its denominator includes views that did not monetize. A continuous stream can therefore accumulate views much faster than ad-bearing playbacks or fan payments. CPM, by contrast, reflects advertiser-side costs for ads and monetized ad activity; it is not your take-home revenue per thousand total views. YouTube’s explanation of ad revenue analytics describes these metrics and their differences.
Viewer location can affect the ad market, but it is not a fixed country rate
Advertisers choose the geographies they want to reach, and competition varies by location. A change in audience geography can therefore change CPM and contribute to an RPM shift. But Indian viewership alone does not establish why a particular channel’s RPM is low: topic, targeting, season, ad format, Premium use, and the share of views that monetize can also matter. YouTube does not publish a guaranteed India-specific RPM or CPM benchmark in the official material cited here, so treat online country-rate tables cautiously.
An ad slot is not a guaranteed paid impression
For a monetized live stream, pre-roll and display ads are automatically on, while mid-roll ads may be automatic or manual. YouTube’s ad systems decide whether a slot receives an ad; “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” A viewer may see no ad because one is unavailable, targeting does not match, the content is not suitable for that advertiser, the viewer recently saw an ad, or the viewer has YouTube Premium. Find the cause in YouTube Studio

Compare views with monetized playbacks and ad impressions
In YouTube Studio, open Analytics and go to the Revenue tab. Use the Live filter and compare views with estimated monetized playbacks and ad impressions over the same date range. If views substantially exceed monetized playbacks or impressions, the gap points to unmonetized viewing or unfilled ad opportunities; it does not, by itself, prove that CPM fell. YouTube’s revenue analytics definitions explain why views and monetized activity are not interchangeable.

Check CPM measures without mistaking them for creator RPM
Compare CPM and playback-based CPM with RPM across matched dates. These CPM measures help describe advertiser-side activity; they do not tell you what you earned per thousand total views. If CPM is comparatively steady but RPM falls, investigate the monetized share of views and other revenue sources rather than assuming advertisers suddenly paid less.

Look for a change in geography or time period
In Analytics, compare audience geography and date ranges. Check whether the Indian share or another audience segment changed at the same time as RPM, and compare like-for-like periods because seasonality and format mix can also affect ad results. YouTube explains that advertisers select target geographies and that competition differs across them in its ad revenue analytics guidance.

Verify the monetization module and stream settings
For live streams watched on YouTube’s Watch Page (or embedded with YouTube’s player), ad and Premium revenue requires accepting the Watch Page Monetization Module. Check the Earn area in Studio and the individual stream’s monetization status. YouTube’s monetization modules guidance explains the module requirement. Also check where viewers are watching: YouTube says ads are turned off for live streams embedded on external sites with autoplay, as described in its live-stream monetization guidance.

Separate live, replay, and other revenue
Use the Live filter to inspect live-stream and replay revenue separately, then review the Revenue sources report. RPM can reflect more than ads, so a change in memberships, Premium, Super Chat, or Super Stickers may affect the total. Google’s YouTube Analytics API metrics reference distinguishes estimated revenue measures from livestream viewership measures.
What to adjust after you identify the cause
Improve ad delivery carefully
If monetization is enabled and the stream is eligible, YouTube offers automatic mid-rolls and manual insertion. Automatic mid-rolls are a setting to consider, not a guarantee of more ads or higher RPM: YouTube’s system can skip slots to balance viewer experience, earnings, and advertiser values. The help page reports a comparison of average instream revenue per hour for channels with automatic mid-rolls enabled versus those without, across 207 countries and averaged in January 2024. It gives no numeric uplift in the cited passage and is neither India-specific nor a promised result for an individual channel. YouTube also names an Elgato Stream Deck plugin as an optional way to insert ads; it cannot create advertiser demand or guarantee an impression. Check feature availability and eligibility in Studio. Use eligible live fan-funding features
YouTube lists channel memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers as additional live earning routes when available and enabled for a channel. Check eligibility and settings in Studio rather than assuming every channel or viewer can use each feature. These can diversify revenue; they do not directly raise ad CPM. YouTube’s monetization guidance describes the relevant earning features.
Check originality, reused material, and advertiser suitability
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its July 15, 2025 clarification renamed the former “repetitious content” policy “inauthentic content,” covering repetitive or mass-produced material that may be ineligible for monetization. Reused content is a separate policy issue. A stream is not disqualified merely because it runs 24/7; what matters is whether the content and channel provide original, meaningful value and meet monetization and advertiser-friendly requirements. Review any limited-ads or policy notices in Studio instead of inferring a violation from RPM alone. YouTube’s channel monetization policies explain the policy framework.
