The command below is a starting template, not a tested command: replace the local filenames and account-specific ingest details, then verify the stream in YouTube before relying on it.
What you need before starting
- An installed FFmpeg build with the
libx264video encoder available for the example command. - A Hindi meditation audio file and a cover image, such as
hindi-meditation.mp3andcover.jpg. Use a video input because YouTube Live needs a visible video stream; this method holds one still image onscreen while the audio plays. - A YouTube channel set up for live streaming, with the current ingest URL and stream key available in Live Control Room.
- An upload connection that can sustain the stream’s outgoing bitrate. YouTube recommends testing upload speed and checking stream health before and during a broadcast.
- Permission to rebroadcast the recording continuously, including any separately owned narration, music, or sound effects.
YouTube’s ingest address depends on the live-stream workflow and account. Get the current address and key from your Live Control Room setup rather than copying a fixed URL from an example. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. See the YouTube LiveStreams API documentation for official ingestion context.
Build the FFmpeg command
FFmpeg documents -stream_loop as an input option: a value of -1 repeats that input indefinitely. In this command it appears immediately before the audio input, so the audio loops while the still image supplies video.

Replace the quoted RTMPS destination with the current address and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. The destination in this example is deliberately a placeholder, not a usable endpoint.

What the important options do
-rereads the cover-image input at real-time speed.-loop 1keeps that image available as the video input.-stream_loop -1repeats the audio input indefinitely. Keep it before the relevant-i; FFmpeg input options apply to the input that follows them.-map 0:v:0 -map 1:a:0selects the image as video and the recording as audio.-r 30sets the output to 30 frames per second.-g 60sets a 60-frame GOP, or a two-second keyframe interval at that frame rate.-b:v,-minrate, and-maxrateset the example video rate to 4,000 kbps;-bufsizesets an 8,000 kb buffer. This matches YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 480p at 30 fps; set a matching output resolution and bitrate if you change the target quality.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2encodes stereo AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz, settings YouTube recommends for stereo audio.-f flvselects the publishing container used in FFmpeg’s RTMP example. Thertmps://destination uses the secure RTMP variant.
YouTube currently lists H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS ingest. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, which must not exceed four seconds. The sample command uses a still image and these example output settings; YouTube’s published bitrate figures are platform guidance, not a measured requirement for this particular stream. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance before choosing a different resolution or frame rate.
Start the stream and verify it
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and copy the current RTMPS ingest address and stream key into the command. Do not share or publish the key.
- Open a terminal in the folder containing the files, or use their full paths in the command. Run the command and watch the FFmpeg output for connection or encoding errors.
- Check Live Control Room while FFmpeg is running. Confirm that YouTube receives the stream and reports healthy ingestion before depending on it.
- Listen to the audio at the beginning and across the recording boundary. Confirm that the cover image is visible and that the stream continues after the audio reaches its end and loops.
- During the broadcast, monitor YouTube’s stream-health status and messages. YouTube recommends a preflight test with audio and representative movement; for this still-image stream, verify audible audio, a present image, and healthy ingestion.
Make the loop sound right and stay within your rights
FFmpeg repeats the file as it is, including any silence, abrupt edit, or change in room tone at the end-to-start boundary. If a seamless transition matters, edit the recording or create a crossfade before streaming; the loop option does not smooth the boundary.

Confirm that you control or have permission to broadcast the recording continuously. Narration, background music, and sound effects may have different rights holders. A license must allow continuous public live rebroadcast and cover the relevant territory; a technical command does not grant those rights. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether FFmpeg can connect.
Troubleshooting
