Use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source to play multiple local sermon recordings in order and enable Loop Playlist. That keeps the playlist repeating, but OBS does not promise frame- or audio-gapless transitions. Test every boundary—including the last sermon back to the first—before relying on it for a continuous YouTube Live broadcast.
Before you set up the stream
- Enable YouTube live streaming early. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so complete it well before the broadcast. See YouTube’s eligibility and setup guidance.
- Keep the sermon files on the OBS computer. The playlist source needs access to the media files during playback.
- Confirm rebroadcast rights. Check that your church may rebroadcast each sermon recording and all material embedded in it, including music, video, and artwork. YouTube’s setup guidance does not establish that your church has those rights.
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. OBS documents the source and its playlist controls in its Media Sources guide.
Build a sermon playlist in OBS
- Open OBS and add a VLC Video source to the scene you plan to stream. Use the source’s add control in the Sources panel and give it a recognizable name, such as “Sermon playlist.”
- Open the source properties and add the sermon video files. Arrange them in the intended service order. Leave shuffle off if the sermons must play in a fixed sequence.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback restarts after the final item. OBS describes VLC Video as supporting a playlist and documents this option as restarting the source when it runs out of media files.
- Save the scene and play the playlist locally in OBS. Confirm that the picture and audio are present and that the order is correct.
If you only need to repeat one recording, use OBS’s Media Source instead and enable its Loop property. For several recordings, VLC Video is the playlist option. The OBS guide documents repeat behavior, not a guarantee of seamless transitions.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream.
- In the stream settings, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup workflow and stream settings guidance.
- Treat the stream key like a password. It tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it; do not share it publicly.
- Start streaming from OBS, then inspect the incoming video and audio in Live Control Room. Go live only after the preview looks and sounds right.
Configure ingest and video quality
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS and supports H.264, H.265, and AV1 in its RTMP(S) guidance. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. Recommended bitrates depend on resolution, frame rate, and codec; use YouTube’s current live-streaming recommendations for the settings that match your stream rather than copying a number from a different configuration.
HLS is another ingest option, but it does not fix pauses between playlist items. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency because it sends segments instead of a continuous RTMP feed, and its HLS setup has specific segment and rolling-playlist requirements. Choose an ingest protocol your encoder supports and that fits your broadcast; do not treat it as a gapless-playback setting. See YouTube’s HLS guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Test for gaps before the service
A looping playlist and a gapless program are not the same thing. OBS documents that VLC Video restarts when the playlist ends, but that alone does not establish that the final frame or audio sample of one file meets the first of the next without interruption. File endings and beginnings, decoding, audio-track layout, storage performance, and computer load can all matter in practice.
- Run a test using the exact sermon files, OBS scene, and computer you will use for the broadcast.
- Listen and watch at every transition between sermons. Pay particular attention to the last-to-first transition at the loop point.
- Check both the OBS output and the Live Control Room preview. YouTube recommends testing before a stream and monitoring audio and video while it is live; use its live-streaming tips.
- Check that your internet upload capacity and stream health remain suitable during the test and that the encoder does not stall under load.
If a transition pauses, consider editing the recordings into one continuous program or inserting a deliberate short holding visual or audio segment. These are production options, not guaranteed fixes; test the revised program and stream again.

Plan the broadcast length and supervision
A local OBS stream depends on the computer, media files, internet connection, and someone being able to respond if playback or the connection fails. Monitor the encoder and the YouTube stream for connection loss and playback stalls. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that one live event will provide a permanent archive for a continuous broadcast that exceeds that duration. The rule is described in YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Troubleshooting common problems
| What you see | What to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video is unavailable or the playlist will not play | Whether VLC is installed and the files are accessible to the computer running OBS. | Install VLC if needed, verify the file paths, and reopen the source properties to confirm the playlist entries. |
| Sermons play in the wrong order | The order of entries in the playlist and whether shuffle is enabled. | Reorder the files and turn shuffle off for a fixed sequence. |
| The playlist stops after the last sermon | Whether Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source. | Enable Loop Playlist and test the final-to-first transition again. |
| There is a pause or audio break between sermons | The exact file boundaries and the test output from OBS and YouTube’s preview. | Test the actual files and setup. If necessary, edit them into one continuous program or add a deliberate holding segment, then retest; Loop Playlist itself is not a gapless guarantee. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | The server URL and stream key entered in OBS, and the stream state shown in Live Control Room. | Compare OBS’s values with the current YouTube stream settings, correct any mismatch, restart the encoder, and check the preview before going live. |
| YouTube preview appears unhealthy or the stream stalls | Encoder status, audio/video output, network connection, and the configured bitrate for the chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec. | Monitor stream health, check YouTube’s current recommendations for that configuration, and run another test before the service. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube stream made from uploaded recordings, StreamNeo runs the playlist from the cloud: upload your sermon video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and streams to YouTube.
