The safest locked-room run in ARC Raiders is planned around noise, not speed. Put the single-use key in a Safe Pocket before you enter danger, scout every approach and your extraction route, open only during a quiet window, take the highest-value containers first, and leave as soon as the area changes. Regular extraction controls broadcast a loud blaring sound, so a successful room search can still end badly if you have no quiet way out.
You are managing two enemies at once: mechanized ARC and rival Raiders. The robots respond to sound and scripted pressure, while human opponents watch valuable rooms, events and extraction points. The procedure below keeps the key safe, limits the time you spend exposed, and gives you a response when attention is unavoidable.

Why a locked room is dangerous even when the door is secure
ARC can be drawn by actions, not just movement
A locked room concentrates valuable loot in a small, predictable location. Searching its containers takes several seconds and creates substantial noise. Extraction controls are another broadcast: the normal controls make a loud, blaring sound. Those actions can bring nearby ARC or reveal your position to Raiders who were not originally at the room.

Human opponents are part of the threat model from the moment you approach. A room may be quiet because nobody has arrived yet, or quiet because another squad is listening from a nearby sightline. High-value events and popular rooms are especially vulnerable to third-party attacks. Treat the room, its entrances and the nearest extraction as one contested area rather than as an isolated building.

Prepare the run before you open the door
Protect the key immediately
- Move the key into a Safe Pocket before approaching the room. Keys are documented as single-use consumables. A Safe Pocket protects its contents if you are eliminated; ordinary carried equipment does not receive that protection.
- Keep the key there while you scout, loot and extract. Do not move it back into ordinary inventory to make space unless you have a specific reason and accept the loss risk.
- Decide whether the room is worth spending the key. Its one-use cost matters alongside expected loot, the room’s entrances, nearby ARC patrols, rival traffic and the distance to extraction.
Putting the key away is not a minor inventory habit. It converts a failed run from “lost key and loot” into “lost ordinary haul, key preserved,” which lets you attempt the room again.
Carry a response to forced attention
- Li’l Smoke Grenade or Smoke Grenade: the documented options to use before breaching when Close Scrutiny’s first pylon is involved.
- Lure Grenade: throw it opposite your escape route after looting to pull attention away from the direction you will use.
- Photoelectric Cloak: a documented option for a clean withdrawal when you must leave under ARC pressure.
- Raider Hatch Key: bring one only if your planned escape uses a Raider Hatch. Hatches are quieter than regular extraction, but they require this separate key.
These tools serve different moments. Smoke helps you cross or breach under observation, a lure redirects attention after the valuable search, and the cloak supports the final withdrawal. Do not assume that carrying one removes the need to scout; each is a limited answer to a problem you should first try to avoid.
Scout the room and its exits before touching the lock
Read the approaches
Stop outside the immediate interaction range and inspect every sightline into the room. Check windows, corridors, rooftops, stairwells and open ground where a Raider could watch the entrance. Listen for ARC activity, movement, combat and other audio cues. A silent doorway is not proof that the building is empty; it only gives you a moment to gather more information.
Count entrances and choose a position
Identify all usable entrances and exits before opening. A room with one obvious doorway is easier to monitor than one with several approaches, but the single doorway can also become a predictable kill lane. Plan where you will stand so you can see the approach without placing your character directly in the threshold.
Locate the nearest realistic extraction
Mark the extraction you can reach after the search, then judge the route as if it were already noisy. Include corners, cover, open crossings and alternate turns. If the only extraction is far away or exposed, the room may not justify the key even when its loot looks attractive. A close extraction with a clear escape lane is more valuable than a theoretically richer route that forces you across watched ground.
Wait for a quiet window
Open during a lull in nearby gunfire, ARC patrols and player movement. Your objective is not to make the interaction silent—it is to avoid stacking the room’s search noise on top of another fight or a known patrol. If audio suddenly changes while you are waiting, cancel the approach and reassess rather than committing because you are already at the door.

Open and loot without creating a trap
Control the doorway
Keep an exit available while the key interaction completes. Do not stand in the most predictable part of the doorway where a player outside can pre-aim your position. Use an angle that lets you break line of sight, and leave enough room to retreat without colliding with the doorframe or nearby objects.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSearch the highest-value containers first
Container searches take several seconds, so the order of operations determines how much value you can save if the area changes. Identify the containers most likely to justify the key and search those first. Do not spend the initial quiet seconds on low-priority containers while the best loot remains untouched. If you hear a new threat, you can leave with the high-value items already secured.
Use a strict abort rule
Stop searching when the tactical situation changes: new footsteps, an ARC response, gunfire moving toward the building, a blocked exit or a newly contested extraction. You are not required to finish every container. The key is already protected in the Safe Pocket, and leaving with the first valuable items is often better than turning a profitable opening into an elimination.
Do not linger after the final interaction
Once the valuable containers are searched, move toward the preselected escape lane. Remaining in the room to sort inventory, inspect every low-value item or watch the door from the same position gives opponents time to converge. Sort only what is necessary to move, then relocate before deciding whether another container is worth the exposure.
Choose an extraction that matches the noise you can afford
| Extraction method | Noise profile | Requirement | How to use it in a locked-room run |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular extraction controls | Loud, blaring noise that can attract human and machine enemies | Use the normal extraction controls | Scout the route first, start only when you can defend or break away, and expect the sound to reveal your position. |
| Raider Hatch | Quieter to use than regular extraction | Raider Hatch Key | Plan the hatch before looting if a lower-noise departure is more important than a closer regular extraction. |
Decide before the search, not after it
Extraction planning belongs in the scouting phase. If you discover after looting that the hatch is inaccessible or the regular controls are surrounded, your inventory can make you slower and your noise can make the route worse. Select the destination, identify a fallback direction and keep the route in mind while you search.

Expect attention at the extraction point
Regular extraction is an audible event, not a private exit. Approach from cover, check the surrounding sightlines again and avoid standing in a fixed, predictable position while the controls operate. If the area changes before activation, break contact and reassess rather than starting the sequence simply because you have arrived.

Close Scrutiny changes what “open” means
Key-room access is different during this condition
Under normal conditions, key-locked rooms are accessible because their doors are open or removed. Puzzle-locked rooms remain inaccessible. Close Scrutiny changes the practical decision: an open key-room entrance does not mean the area is safe or free of consequences.
The first Assessor pylon breach creates a response
The first pylon breach emits noise and spawns an aggravated ARC swarm. Treat that breach as the trigger for your withdrawal plan. Before breaching, place a Li’l Smoke Grenade or Smoke Grenade where it can help cover the movement you must make. After taking the loot, throw a Lure Grenade opposite your escape route to pull the response away from your intended direction, or use Photoelectric Cloak for a clean withdrawal when the situation allows it.
Do not apply the normal key-room rule blindly
Because the door may already be open, you do not need to spend a key to enter in this condition, but the pylon noise and ARC swarm still impose a cost. Scout the same entrances, exits and extraction lanes you would for a locked door. If you cannot identify a route that survives the swarm’s attention, leave the room alone even though access appears free.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Compare room opportunities with the same six questions
Key-room references cover Dam Battlegrounds, Buried City, Spaceport, Blue Gate, Stella Montis and Riven Tides. The useful comparison is not a universal ranking; it is the specific risk profile of the room you are standing outside.
| Question | What to inspect | Decision it supports |
|---|---|---|
| How expensive is the key? | Key rarity and its single-use nature | Whether the expected haul justifies risking the key’s one-use opportunity. |
| How can opponents enter? | Room location and number of entrances | Where to hold an angle and whether you can monitor every approach. |
| What is already nearby? | ARC patrols and active machine threats | Whether to wait, reroute or bring smoke for a forced crossing. |
| What can you take quickly? | Expected loot and the highest-value containers | Which containers to search first and when to stop. |
| How hard is the departure? | Distance to extraction and its noise profile | Whether a regular extraction is acceptable or a Raider Hatch is worth planning. |
| How likely are players to arrive? | Rival-player traffic around the room or event | How long you can safely wait and whether to abandon the opening. |
Use the answers together. A rare key in a room with many entrances, active patrols and a loud, distant extraction can be a worse opportunity than a less prestigious room with a short, covered route out. No percentage success rate is established for any room, so judge the run from these observable conditions rather than from an invented probability.
Locked Gate is a special multi-step opportunity
Locked Gate is not a normal single-door interaction. Four codes must be inserted into terminals before the area can be used. The area is popular during raids, which increases the chance that rival Raiders are already interested in it. Its underground tunnels offer above-average loot and better blueprint odds, but those advantages do not remove the traffic problem.

Approach Locked Gate as an event
- Scout the exterior and identify the terminals, entrances and exits before entering the sequence.
- Check for rival activity between each terminal interaction; do not assume that completing one code means the remaining route is safe.
- Keep the final escape lane available while entering the fourth code.
- Once inside, take the highest-value tunnel containers first and leave if the area becomes contested.
- Use the extraction plan you selected before the first code. A loud regular extraction can turn a successful tunnel search into a public signal.
The four-code requirement increases the time you are exposed, while the popularity of the area increases the chance that someone is listening. The above-average loot and blueprint odds justify a careful attempt, not a stationary one.
A complete locked-room run, from lobby to extraction
- Choose the opportunity. Weigh key rarity and single-use cost against expected loot, room entrances, ARC presence, rival traffic and extraction distance.
- Prepare inventory. Put the key in a Safe Pocket. Add smoke, a lure and Photoelectric Cloak when available; add a Raider Hatch Key only for a hatch-based plan.
- Set an extraction route. Pick the primary exit and a fallback direction before you approach the room.
- Observe the perimeter. Check sightlines, audio cues, patrols, entrances, exits and signs of Raiders. Wait for a quiet window.
- Take the interaction from cover. Open without standing in the predictable center of the doorway, and keep an escape lane usable.
- Loot by value. Search the most valuable containers first. Keep the search short and stop immediately when new attention arrives.
- Break contact. Leave as soon as the priority loot is secured. Use a lure opposite your route, smoke for a necessary crossing or Photoelectric Cloak for a clean withdrawal when ARC attention is unavoidable.
- Extract deliberately. Recheck the destination, remember that regular controls are loud, and use a Raider Hatch when its quieter profile and key requirement fit the route.
Common mistakes and the correction for each
Carrying the key in ordinary inventory
Problem: elimination can cost you the single-use key along with ordinary loot.
Correction: move it to a Safe Pocket before scouting and leave it there for the entire run.
Opening as soon as the door is reachable
Problem: you begin the noisy interaction without knowing who can see the entrance or where you will extract.
Correction: pause outside, read sightlines and audio, count exits and wait for a quiet window.
Searching every container in a fixed order
Problem: several seconds of search time accumulate while the most valuable container remains untouched.

Correction: prioritize the highest-value containers, then leave when the tactical picture changes.
Holding the doorway after looting
Problem: the threshold becomes a predictable firing point and gives opponents time to arrive.
Correction: avoid the center of the doorway, keep an escape lane and relocate immediately after the priority search.
Treating Close Scrutiny as a free opening
Problem: an open or removed door hides the fact that the first Assessor pylon breach creates noise and an aggravated ARC swarm.
Correction: prepare smoke before breaching, set the lure direction and keep the cloak available for withdrawal.
Starting loud extraction without a route
Problem: the blaring controls advertise your location while you stand at a predictable point.
Correction: choose the extraction before looting, check the surrounding approaches and activate only when you can leave or break contact.
