A looping playlist can repeat audio, but it does not guarantee that YouTube will keep one broadcast online indefinitely—or that a licensed stream will avoid a Content ID interruption.
This guide answers “How to make a 24/7 YouTube Indian folk music radio channel with an audio playlist,” including the rights checks, OBS setup, YouTube connection, continuity planning, and monetization limits.
Before you begin: secure the music rights
Get permission for both the sound recordings and the underlying compositions. Confirm that the permission covers YouTube livestreaming and, if you plan to keep a replay, the archived stream. Check the territories and other limits in each agreement, and save copies of licenses and written permissions.
YouTube says live content is scanned for third-party material. If it detects content that remains in the stream, it may replace the broadcast with a placeholder, warn you, or temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. A license does not necessarily prevent that interruption: if a rights owner uses Content ID, ask them to allowlist your channel before you go live. An archived stream may also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its Livestream terms and conditions. The terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.”

Check what the license actually permits
- Make sure it covers the recording as well as the composition; permission for one does not establish permission for the other.
- Confirm YouTube livestream use, any planned archive, and the territories where viewers can watch.
- Ask whether the rights owner will allowlist your channel in Content ID, and get confirmation before launching.
- Do not assume that a “free” label or a credit in the description grants the necessary rights. Use music whose license explicitly covers your intended uses. YouTube’s tips to find safe music point to the Audio Library and other appropriately licensed sources.
YouTube’s cited Creator Music usage details exclude livestreams from Creator Music track licenses. Do not rely on a Creator Music license for this radio stream.
Check your channel’s livestream eligibility
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the previous 90 days to stream. Check eligibility and enable live streaming before preparing the public launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guide.

Choose an OBS playlist setup
OBS offers two practical approaches: a Media Source for repeating one local file, or a VLC Video source for managing a playlist of multiple files. The second approach requires VLC to be installed, and OBS notes that VLC’s architecture should match the OBS installation. See OBS’s Media Sources guide.
One audio file: Media Source
- Open OBS and select or create the scene you will use for the radio broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, choose + → Media Source. Create a new source or select an existing one.
- In the source properties, choose the local audio file and enable Loop.
- Add a visual for the broadcast, such as a still image you have the right to use. Preview the scene and confirm that the audio is audible.
Several files: VLC Video source
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. Use an installation with the same architecture as OBS.
- In OBS, select or create your broadcast scene. In Sources, choose + → VLC Video.
- In the source properties, add the audio files in the order you want them to play.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled, then test the end of one track and the start of the next. OBS’s Sources Guide explains how sources work within scenes.
- Add a suitable visual and check that it remains on screen throughout playback.
OBS source labels and layout can vary by version. If you do not see VLC Video, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.

Connect OBS to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers this workflow.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the matching connection fields in OBS. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Start the encoder connection from OBS and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room.
- Check the preview and audio, then start the broadcast in Live Control Room when ready.
Test the playlist and plan for interruptions
Before announcing the channel, run a private or otherwise limited test. Listen through at least one transition and a complete loop if practical; check audio level, the visual, and playback on desktop and mobile. Confirm that the local recording works if you plan to keep an archive. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend checking the preview, archive, accessibility, and audio/video quality.
A looping OBS source handles track repetition; it does not make a YouTube session permanent. Decide how long each broadcast will run, who will monitor it, and how you will reconnect the encoder if the session ends or drops. YouTube does not promise indefinite uninterrupted operation.

Do not rely on YouTube as the only archive for a continuous broadcast. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; the page does not state a publication year. Keep a local recording backup if the replay matters, and test that it is being written correctly. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.

A playlist that loops is not automatically eligible for monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams and assess reused or repetitious material, including at channel level. Reused content without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value may be ineligible. Copyright rules are separate: passing a reused-content review would not establish music rights.
For eligible channels, YouTube lists ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships as live monetization options. Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.
