Reusing a YouTube stream key does not guarantee that separate broadcasts will keep the same viewer-facing watch URL. The key is for the encoder’s connection to YouTube; each broadcast is a separate event with its own watch page. If the same link matters, choose the broadcast setup deliberately and test the exact URL with viewers before sharing it.
Does reusing the same YouTube stream key keep the watch link the same?
No such guarantee appears in YouTube’s documentation. A stream key is an ingest credential: it tells your encoder where to send video and lets YouTube accept the feed. You can create a custom key for reuse, but that keeps encoder settings consistent; it does not establish a permanent viewer URL. See YouTube’s stream-key guidance.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API distinguishes the reusable encoder configuration, called a liveStream, from the viewer-facing event, called a liveBroadcast. One stream resource can be bound to multiple broadcasts, with only one event live at a time. The event and stream are related, but they are not the same thing. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.
Choose between one continuous event and recurring broadcasts
One continuous broadcast
A continuously running event avoids ending one scheduled event and starting another, but it does not remove the need to test the watch URL. It also raises an archive limitation: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when ended. Its encoder guidance does not establish that a single event longer than 12 hours will be fully archived. Do not plan on a complete replay for a longer event without verifying the result.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Separate scheduled broadcasts
For recurring events, YouTube’s API supports using one reusable stream configuration with multiple broadcast events. Each scheduled broadcast has its own event setup and viewer page. Reusing the same key therefore does not make separate events one permanent watch page. YouTube explains creating an encoder stream and scheduled stream in its encoder instructions.
Set up a reusable stream key and test the viewer URL
- Check that the channel can go live. YouTube says live streaming requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and the encoder setup instructions.
- Create a custom reusable key. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select a custom stream key for reuse. Put YouTube’s stream URL and key into your encoder. YouTube describes keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address”; keep the key private. If it is exposed, reset it and replace it in the encoder.
- Set up the event structure. Decide whether you are keeping one broadcast running or scheduling separate events. For recurring broadcasts, reuse the encoder configuration while creating the appropriate broadcast event each time. Do not assume that a reused key preserves a previous event’s viewer page.
- Preview before announcing the link. Start the encoder and check the feed in the Live Control Room preview, then open the watch page as a viewer. Verify that the audio and video are correct and that the page is accessible in the intended viewing context.
- Test the exact URL in realistic conditions. Check the watch page from the channel and on mobile. If you intend to share a channel-level
/liveURL, test it both while the stream is live and while it is offline. YouTube’s cited documentation does not guarantee how that URL will route to an active event.
Keep a 24/7 music feed operational
A stable link does not ensure that the feed itself stays healthy. YouTube recommends checking the preview, monitoring audio and video, testing encoder failover, checking accessibility on watch and channel pages and mobile, and verifying local archives. Follow its live-streaming tips during setup and operation.

Choose an encoding approach based on who will operate and monitor the stream, whether dedicated equipment is available, and how the feed will recover after an interruption. YouTube supports encoder software and standalone hardware, and its encoder page also lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded video. These approaches can keep a feed running, but none changes the distinction between ingest credentials and a broadcast’s viewer page.
