You can use Google Drive to store videos for a 24/7 YouTube stream, but Drive does not itself broadcast them. The files need to be played by an encoder or a cloud service that sends the video to YouTube Live. For a do-it-yourself setup, make the files available on a computer, configure encoder software to play them continuously, then connect that encoder to YouTube Studio with your server URL and stream key.
How the setup works
The workflow is Drive files → playback source → encoder → YouTube Live. Google Drive holds your source videos; an encoder turns their playback into a live feed and sends it to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe connecting an encoder to a stream, not broadcasting directly from Drive. A shared Drive link should not be assumed to work as a reliable live-video input.
YouTube defines live streaming as a way to interact with an audience in real time through a video feed, chat, and more. A prerecorded loop is still a live broadcast technically, but viewers experience the video content you provide rather than a live camera feed.
Before you start
Confirm the channel can livestream
Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. You must be at least 16 years old to live stream. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable access before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Prepare the videos and rights
- Download or sync the videos you are authorized to use to the computer that will run the encoder. Arrange them in playback order and confirm each file plays correctly.
- Check that you have the necessary rights for the video, music, and other material in the broadcast. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed to use live content, including applicable music rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other rights holders. Read YouTube’s Terms of Service and its monetization policies.
- If monetization matters, remember that copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate. YouTube may find repetitive or mass-produced material ineligible even when you have permission to use it. Its July 15, 2025 update renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” to clarify the existing policy; it did not create a general exception for looping streams.
Make a 24/7 stream with a local encoder
This method keeps playback and transmission on your own computer and internet connection. You need encoder software or hardware that can play a file or playlist continuously and send the resulting feed to YouTube. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video for streaming; it does not require a dedicated mini PC.
- Enable livestreaming: In the intended YouTube channel, complete any verification and live-stream activation requirements. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement.
- Make the Drive files local: Download the source videos or sync them to the computer that will run the encoder. A local copy avoids relying on a shared Drive URL as an ingest source. Organize the files into the sequence you want and test that the encoder can access them.
- Create the YouTube broadcast: In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Open its stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key supplied for that stream.
- Configure the encoder: Choose the local video file or playlist as the playback source. Set the encoder to repeat the playlist or return to the first video after the last one, then enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming destination settings. Use RTMPS if your encoder offers it; YouTube recommends it for an encrypted connection to its servers.
- Start and verify: Start the encoder so it sends the feed. Check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room, confirm that video and audio are present, and use YouTube’s go-live flow where applicable. Keep the stream key private: it is used to send a feed to the configured stream.
- Plan maintenance: Keep the computer, encoder, source files, and internet connection available for the broadcast. Check that the playlist continues and that the encoder has not stopped. For a true around-the-clock schedule, decide who will monitor it and how you will recover from a computer, software, or connection interruption.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will become one complete archived video. If a replay matters, plan a restart or sequence of broadcasts before the stream reaches 12 hours, and check the resulting archives in YouTube Studio. That approach requires managing the transition so the channel does not simply stop sending when a session ends.

Local encoder or cloud service?
A local encoder gives you direct control, but your computer and connection must keep working. A cloud service can run the playback and transmission away from home, but capabilities differ. Before choosing one, confirm it supports YouTube Live output, continuous prerecorded playback or playlists, the way you will supply Drive files (import or ongoing sync), recovery after interruptions, and your preferred handling of archives and restarts. Do not assume a provider imports Drive files just because it supports cloud streaming.

Troubleshooting
You cannot start a livestream
Check that the channel is verified, eligible, and has completed livestream activation. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours.
YouTube shows no incoming video
Confirm the encoder is running, the correct server URL and stream key are entered, and the selected source file is playing. If you recently changed streams, check that you copied the URL and key for the intended broadcast. Do not share the key.

The playlist stops or repeats the wrong files
Test the playlist order and repeat behavior before going live. Make sure the source files remain available to the encoder; a Drive file that has not been downloaded or synced may not be accessible to local playback.
The broadcast ends or the replay is incomplete
Check the encoder, computer, and network for interruptions. Separately, review the broadcast duration: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so a longer continuous session should not be expected to produce one complete automatic archive. Plan a restart and review the resulting videos in Studio.

The stream is live but monetization is unavailable
Being live and having permission to use content do not guarantee monetization. YouTube applies its monetization rules to live streams; repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible, and reused-content review is separate from copyright enforcement. Eligible YouTube Partner Program creators also need to accept the Watch Page Monetization Module for Watch Page ad and Premium revenue. Turning on ads does not guarantee that ads will serve, because content goes through standard review. See YouTube’s monetization guidance.
