To loop several videos in one OBS scene, use VLC Video Source and enable Loop Playlist. To rotate between different OBS scenes, add the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin: OBS’s media playlist and scene automation are separate functions. This guide covers both paths, connecting OBS to YouTube, and the extra checks a continuous broadcast needs.
Choose the setup that matches what you mean by “scene playlist”
OBS does not have one standard feature called a “scene playlist.” A VLC Video Source playlist repeats multiple media files within a scene. Advanced Scene Switcher automates transitions between scenes. Choose one or use both: for example, a scene can play a playlist, while a switcher macro changes to another scene after a chosen time.
| Approach | Use it for | What it does | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| VLC Video Source playlist | Repeating several video or audio files within one scene | Plays multiple files, with loop and shuffle controls. | Requires VLC; it does not rotate OBS scenes. |
| OBS Media Source | Repeating one media file | Plays a single file and offers a Loop option. | Does not provide the documented multi-item playlist behavior of VLC Video Source. |
| Advanced Scene Switcher | Moving among scenes automatically | Runs macros that pair conditions with actions. | Requires a compatible plugin release and careful configuration. |
Loop multiple videos in one OBS scene
- Create or select the scene. In OBS, choose the scene that should display the videos. In its Sources panel, add a VLC Video Source.
- Add the media files in order. Use the source’s playlist controls to add the files and arrange the intended sequence.
- Set the playback behavior. Turn on Loop Playlist to repeat the sequence. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed order, or enable it for randomized playback.
- Decide what happens when the source is hidden. The OBS reference lists stop and restart as the default behavior. Check the source’s visibility behavior and test whether it should pause, continue, or stop when its scene is hidden; the right choice depends on how you intend the broadcast to behave.
- Check the VLC installation. VLC must be installed for VLC Video Source to appear. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
This repeats media files inside the selected scene. It does not switch to other scenes.
Rotate between OBS scenes with Advanced Scene Switcher
For a planned sequence of scenes, use Advanced Scene Switcher. Its macros pair conditions with actions: a condition determines when a macro runs, and an action performs the transition.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Check compatibility before installing or updating. The plugin listing reports Advanced Scene Switcher version 1.36.1, released August 7, 2026, with minimum OBS Studio version 31.1.1 and Windows, macOS, and Linux listed. Confirm compatibility with your installed OBS build and the plugin release you plan to use. Save a copy of your OBS profile and settings before changing automation.
- Define the trigger. For a timed rotation, set a condition based on how long a scene has been active. To transition based on media playback, use an appropriate media condition and test how it behaves with the source you selected.
- Set the action. Choose the action that switches to the next scene in your sequence.
- Make the cycle return to its start. Add a final-to-first transition or another recurring trigger. Without it, the sequence can stop at the last scene rather than repeat.
- Test the full cycle before going live. Check that each transition occurs as intended and that media and audio behave correctly as scenes become hidden and visible.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live and select the Stream tab. Create a stream if you do not already have one for this broadcast.
- In the stream’s encoder settings, locate the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. In OBS, open the streaming settings and enter the server URL and key for the YouTube stream you intend to start.
- Before starting the encoder, confirm you selected the correct YouTube stream and check its visibility settings. YouTube notes that prior stream settings, including the stream key, may load again in a later session; verify them rather than assuming the current session is configured as intended.
- Start the stream from OBS and check YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room to confirm the expected stream is arriving.
Plan for continuous operation and recordings
- Test the entire loop: Verify the media sequence returns to the beginning, transitions do not create unintended blank gaps, and hidden sources behave as expected. OBS recommends testing scenes and stream operation before the first live broadcast.
- Plan how to keep a recording: YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. Its documentation does not promise automatic archiving at or beyond 12 hours, so do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will be archived. Consider separate local recording and a deliberate restart or segmentation policy, and verify current platform behavior.
- Observe YouTube’s simultaneous-stream limits: YouTube Help lists up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key, simultaneously; the page was checked October 3, 2026. These are YouTube limits, not OBS playlist limits.
- Use content you have rights to stream: Follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. A playlist looping continuously does not change your responsibility to have the necessary rights to its contents.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is an always-on YouTube stream without leaving a local OBS computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option for uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
- Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
- Each slot streams the uploaded quality as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot.
- It attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required.
Monthly: $9.99 per month.

VLC Video Source is missing
Check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS. In particular, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Restart OBS after installing VLC and check the Sources menu again.

A scene does not switch, or the cycle stops
Check the Advanced Scene Switcher macro’s condition and action, then test whether the condition becomes true during playback. Make sure the last scene has a transition back to the first, or that another recurring trigger restarts the sequence. Verify plugin compatibility with your OBS version.
Media restarts or stops after a scene change
Review the VLC source’s behavior when hidden. OBS’s reference lists stop and restart as the default; test the result with your scene arrangement and select the intended pause, continue, or stop behavior.
