To run recorded physics lectures as a continuous YouTube Live broadcast, send a playlist through an encoder: use local software such as OBS, a cloud playout service, or standalone encoder hardware. YouTube Studio provides the stream URL and key. For a local setup, the computer and internet connection must remain on; a cloud service can handle playback without relying on a home computer.
Choose how to play out the lectures

The YouTube-listed options are not endorsements or results of product testing. If you choose to run OBS locally, make sure the computer can play the files and encode or transmit the stream reliably for the intended duration.
Check channel access and prepare the lectures
- Confirm live-stream access. Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Prepare a playlist. Arrange recordings in the order you want them to play, and check that each file has usable audio and video. For a physics lecture, confirm that equations, diagrams, and slide text remain legible at the selected resolution.
- Check rights before scheduling. Confirm permission for the lecture recording, slides, music, clips, and any other third-party material. A recording being educational or available online does not itself establish that you have the rights to rebroadcast it.
- Decide whether you need an archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on a longer continuous broadcast being available as one complete archived video. If the archive matters, plan around that documented limit and check YouTube’s current guidance before going live.
Create the YouTube Live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Go live. Create or schedule a stream in the Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the stream into your encoder’s YouTube or RTMP(S) destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in a screen recording.
- Set up playback in the encoder. For local software, select the lecture files or playlist and configure continuous playback using the software’s playlist or media-source controls. Hosted services and hardware have their own setup flows; follow their current instructions for loading and scheduling recordings.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview and stream health. For a scheduled broadcast, select Go live in Studio when the preview is ready.
YouTube describes the encoder’s role simply: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” The encoder is the bridge between prerecorded playback and the live ingest endpoint; YouTube Studio does not turn a folder of recordings into a continuous broadcast on its own.
Set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
Choose settings that your source files and sustained upload connection can support. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion and monitoring stream health rather than assuming a connection that works for a short test will hold indefinitely.

These are YouTube Help recommendations accessed in 2026; the settings page does not show a publication date. The figures are not a guarantee of stream health. Leave capacity for normal fluctuations in your connection, and test the actual lecture files, including sections with detailed motion or audio.
- Codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for RTMP(S) ingest. Confirm the chosen encoder and stream workflow support the codec you select.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval where the encoder allows it, and do not exceed four seconds.
- Connection security: YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the connection in transit to and through Google’s servers.
- Resolution and motion: For lecture slides and equations, readability matters more than choosing the highest available frame rate. Match the output to the source and test that small text is clear in the preview.

Keep the broadcast compliant and monetization-ready
Copyright can interrupt a technically healthy stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It may replace the feed with a placeholder, issue a warning, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. If you have a license for third-party content, the rights holder may still need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Copyright claims can also be made on an archived stream after it ends. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and keep documentation for permissions.
Permission and monetization are separate questions
Having permission to use a lecture does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube applies its monetization policies to live streams as well as other videos and expects original, authentic content. Similar formats can qualify when the substance varies meaningfully and provides creative or educational value; mass-produced, generic, repetitive content with little educational value or variation can be ineligible. Live content must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and YouTube can restrict live access. YPP membership, feature availability, viewer geography, content review, and continuing policy compliance affect whether a livestream can be monetized; continuous playback alone does not promise revenue.
Understand watch-hour treatment
In guidance published August 12, 2026, YouTube says qualified watch hours must come from public long-form videos or archived livestreams; unarchived live streams do not count as qualified watch hours. YouTube’s wording is: “To count as qualified, watch hours have to come from public long form videos (including podcasts) or archived livestreams.” This does not guarantee YPP acceptance or earnings. Troubleshoot common failures
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and has completed first-time live activation. Allow up to 24 hours for enablement.
- Studio shows no preview or the stream does not connect: Verify that the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the correct event, that the key has not been changed, and that the encoder is actually sending. Keep the key private; generate or copy the correct one if it was exposed or replaced.
- Stream health is poor or playback stutters: Compare the configured bitrate with the sustained upload capacity, reduce bitrate or output resolution if necessary, and test again with the actual lecture files. Check that keyframes are set to two seconds and no more than four.
- The broadcast stops after a copyright warning: Identify the matched material and remove or replace it, or resolve the rights issue. If the material is licensed, ask the rights holder whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID.
- The full stream is not available as an archive: Check its duration. YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer stream will produce one complete archive.
- The channel is not approved for monetization despite having permission: Review originality and educational value across the channel as well as rights. A license resolves only the rights question, not reused-content review.
