Test the full setup before going public: a working loop does not guarantee a stable stream, and YouTube’s monetization rules may affect repetitive content.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube’s stated minimum age for live streaming is 16. First-time live-stream activation can take time, so check channel readiness well before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- A finished video file you have the rights to stream, including rights to any music or other audio.
- A computer running OBS Studio, plus a reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen output settings.
- Access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room so you can create or schedule an encoder stream and retrieve its server URL and stream key.
This workflow streams an already-produced video; it does not use a camera to broadcast live. It explains playback and setup only and makes no claim that aromatherapy has therapeutic or medical effects.
Set up the video loop in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, create or select a scene for the stream.
- Add the video. In the Sources panel, choose + and add a Media Source. Select the local video file. Keep the file accessible to the computer running OBS.
- Enable looping. Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. OBS documents this property as repeating the file after playback completes; it does not create new content between repetitions. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
- Fit and check the source. Fit the video to the scene canvas, then play it in OBS. Check the beginning and end of the file, the transition at the loop point, and any embedded audio. Listen for abrupt changes, silence, clipping, or a level that is too loud.
Create the YouTube encoder stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and use the Stream tab to create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube uses the key to route the encoder feed to the correct stream. Treat it like a password: do not display it in your scene or share it.
- In OBS, choose YouTube as the service if available, or enter the server URL and stream key in the stream settings. Use RTMPS when the encoder setup offers it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
Choose output settings that your connection can sustain
Match resolution and frame rate to the video and to the computer and upload connection. YouTube transcodes incoming streams for different playback formats, so sending a larger source is not necessary just to make the stream available at multiple resolutions.
Use a sensible starting point
For 720p at 30 fps, YouTube’s encoder table recommends 4 Mbps, with 2 Mbps at the low end and 6 Mbps at the high end for that row. These are platform recommendations, not a quality guarantee. Encoding load, the source, and connection stability all affect the result.

Check bandwidth and keyframes
- Run an upload speed test and leave about 20% of upload capacity unused, as YouTube’s streaming tips recommend. Include other household or office traffic and any primary or backup stream when estimating what is available.
- Use constant bitrate (CBR) and set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Use the recommended RTMPS connection where supported, then check YouTube’s stream-health messages during a test.
Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution table for other resolutions and frame rates rather than assuming the 720p recommendation applies to every output.
Test, start, and monitor the broadcast
- Before the public event, run a representative test with the actual video, audio, scene, and output settings. Check that the file loops cleanly and that OBS is not overloaded.
- Start streaming from OBS. Wait for the feed preview in Live Control Room and check the image and sound there.
- Open the watch page and test playback on a mobile device as well as on the computer. Confirm that the page is accessible to the intended audience and that audio is audible without distortion.
- When the preview is ready and you are satisfied, select Go live in Live Control Room. Monitor stream health, picture, and sound while the event runs.
- To finish, end the stream in YouTube and stop the encoder in OBS. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; check YouTube Studio for the resulting archive if you need it.
YouTube advises setting up encoder streams ahead of time, starting the encoder before the scheduled event, checking the preview, and monitoring audio and video. See YouTube’s streaming tips and encoder setup instructions.

Keep rights and monetization in view
YouTube requires live-stream content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Make sure you have permission for every visual and audio element, including background music, stock footage, and images. A file being available online does not mean it is cleared for your stream.
Looping is a technical playback choice, not a guarantee of monetization eligibility. YouTube says highly repetitive, interchangeable, or template-like content with little creative, educational, narrative, or commentary value may not be eligible for monetization. A loop alone does not determine a channel’s eligibility; the overall content and channel are what matter. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

OBS on a computer or a dedicated encoder?

Troubleshooting common problems
The video stops instead of repeating
Open the Media Source properties and confirm that Loop is enabled. Check that the selected file is the intended one and that it plays through in OBS before streaming.
YouTube does not receive a signal
Confirm that OBS is using the correct stream URL and the current stream key from the intended Live Control Room stream. Check for accidental spaces or an outdated key. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.

The preview is unstable or stream health shows problems
Compare the OBS output bitrate with actual upload capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and account for other network traffic. If the connection cannot sustain the selected output, reduce bitrate or resolution and test again. Also check whether the computer is struggling to encode.
There is no sound or the audio is distorted
Check that the source file contains audio, that the Media Source is not muted in OBS, and that its level is reasonable in the audio mixer. Listen to the Live Control Room preview and the watch page, not just local playback.

The stream looks wrong on the watch page
Check that the source fits the OBS canvas and that the chosen output resolution and frame rate match the intended presentation. Test the actual watch page on a second device before announcing the broadcast.
